Chapter 13 Attacked by the Herring Monster

Three days later, in order to save time and avoid unnecessary trouble, Klaus and Rand embarked on their journey to the Succubus tribe with a generous dowry. This time, they chose to travel by boat, and Klaus and Rand also captured a number of dog-slaves near the riverbank to serve as oarsmen.

Slowly, the large vessel, laden with the dowry, moved down the broad river, and if all went well, they would reach the Succubus tribe before nightfall.

"Klaus, why do you look so serious?" Rand handed Klaus a glass of wine. "A drink will help you relax."

"Rand, this is Elder Quinn's dowry for the Succubus queen," Klaus didn't take the glass. "And we don't want the Succubus queen to see us drunk."

"Take it easy, brother." Rand smiled and patted Klaus on the shoulder. "This glass of red wine isn't enough to get me drunk. I just wanted to pass the time."

"I just heard a dog slave say that there have been some robbers lurking on both sides of the river lately, and we should be careful."

While boarding the boat, Klaus overheard two dog slaves talking about bandits on both banks of the river. The robbers were said to prey on passersby and ships after dark, and no one knew whence the robbers came.

"Robbers?" Rand laughed. "Where else in the world could there be a more fearsome bandit than a troll?"

Klaus didn't answer him, but turned his head to survey both sides of the river. The ship was gliding gently through the water, the setting sun glinting on the deck, the river breeze wafting softly across his face, and all was serene around him.

Yet Klaus did not dare to let his guard down, for he knew that the sea was unusually calm before a storm.

Suddenly, the boat seemed to hit something and came to a stop. Klaus immediately looked at Rand, to whom he spoke with increased alertness.

"I'll go underneath the boat and have a look."

Klaus was about to go under the boat to examine it when one of the dog-slaves ran up to him, with a look of alarm on his face.

"Lord Troll, the bottom of the ship has been broken."

"What broke the ship?" Klaus asked.

"I don't know," the dog-slave timidly replied. "You'd better go under the ship and check it out for yourself."

"Damn it!" Klaus violently pushed the dog-slave away and ran quickly under the boat.

Klaus saw that the interior of the ship had been filled with a great quantity of water, and that the dog-slaves, who had been left in the interior, had escaped. No one knew what had pierced the bottom.

Klaus was well aware that the ship had been breached. It was then that a panel came into view.

[Warning: There are enemies nearby]

The next second, a fishhook-like object attached to a wire emerged from the water and shot straight at Klaus. Although Klaus turned in time to dodge, the silver hook still grazed his cheek. The speeding hook ended up embedded in the wall of the boat behind Klaus.

The pain in his cheeks made Klaus furious. He gripped the wire with the silver hook firmly in his hand, then wrapped it around his arm as he prepared to pull.

There was resistance on the other side of the wire, but it was clear that the force on the other side was not at all equal to Klaus's. A sleek head slowly emerged from the river, and Klaus tugged hard on the wire.

A monster with cyan skin, a sleek body, and a mouth full of tiny fangs lunged at Klaus. At the moment when the monster was about to reach his body, he quickly and accurately grabbed his opponent by the neck with his hand. At the same time, the resolution function of the panel automatically activated.

[Race: Herring Monster]

[Level: 4]

[Magic Element: Water]

[Battle Value: 60]

[Weakness: Stomach]

[Note: The silver hook used by the Herring Monster is smeared with a paralyzing poison, and taking the fish gall bladder of the Herring Monster can detoxify it.]

The captured Herring Monster curled up its fishtail and lashed out at Klaus, who took a few steps back and slammed into the wall of the boat. The Herring Monster took the opportunity to free itself from Klaus's grasp and burrowed back into the water.

Klaus immediately drew his spear from behind his back and searched for the Herring Monster, but the murky water made it impossible for him to see where the enemy was. A red spot appeared in his line of sight, pointing to a spot in the corner.

At the same instant that Klaus thrust his spear at his mark, the lurking Herring Monster leaped out of the water. Klaus' spear pierced the pale belly of the Herring Monster, and its intestines gushed out.

Klaus heard Rand's cry from above and hastened to the deck. Rand's limbs were caught in the silver hooks, and four Herring monsters were desperately tugging at the wires of the silver hooks.

 [Mission: Kill all Herring monsters]

[Number of targets: 5]

Klaus growled as he drew a spear from his back and stabbed one of the Herring monsters. The one who was stabbed in the back screamed and fell into the stream. Then he took his blood-stained spear and plunged it into the other Herring Monster, which had fallen over on the deck, its tail still flapping wildly over its lower body. The two remaining Herring monsters, seeing that things were not going well, jumped into the river.

"Klaus, I can't move," Rand knelt on the deck with a pained expression. "That hook has poison on it."

"Stay here." Klaus finished and ran to the bow of the ship in pursuit of the fleeing Herring Monsters.

While the two fleeing Herring Monsters were swimming desperately in the river, Klaus, standing in the bow of the boat, aimed his spear and threw it at the Herring Monster swimming in front. Then he drew another spear and threw it at the last Herring Monster.

The two Herring monsters, who had been stabbed in the body, immediately ceased moving, and their bodies floated on the surface of the river. Klaus then returned to Rand and, with his hands, pulled out the gall bladder of the dead Herring monster on the deck and offered it to Rand.

"What the fuck is this?" Rand said with a disgusted expression as he swallowed the fish gall bladder. "This thing tastes as bad as shit."

"Fish gall bladder can cure the poison in your body. If you don't want the succubus queen to treat you like dirt, go and get the lost dowry back."

"Damned dog slave, they ran away," Rand said angrily. "I'm going to have to break their necks if I see them again."

"We need to get out of this ship now, before it sinks."

So, Klaus and Rand jumped into the river, and they came to the mouth of the lower stream. Rand cut down a large tree with an axe and placed the trunk horizontally in the middle of the river, so that anything that floated down from the upper part of the river was obstructed by the trunk and floated on the surface.

Klaus found his spear on the bodies of the two Herring monsters, who had little left of their prepared dowry.

"Fuck, what are we going to do?" Rand said with a sad face as he looked at the only remaining hide. "Do you want to take this hide and propose to the Succubus queen?"

"Is Elder Quinn's letter to the Succubus queen still with you?" Klaus asked. "And if we give Elder Quinn's letter to the Succubus queen and explain the situation to her truthfully, I'm sure she'll understand our situation." It was getting dark now, and we were going to get there as soon as possible."

Before Klaus had time to finish his sentence, a huge net was thrown over them from above. Two voluptuous Succubus emerged, wings flapping, each holding a trident against the necks of Klaus and Rand.

"Who are you?" asked a Succubus in a sexy red leather jumpsuit, "Why did you break into our territory?"
