Family meeting Part 1 revoke her heiress rights.
Alyssa's pov
Just when one nightmare ended, another began though I feel like what happened at the party a few hours earlier was only the preview of the horror movie that's about to start. Though the last bits of the party went along with well, we are currently sitting in the living room awaiting the start of a meeting that will determine my fate. Yup, we are having a family meeting and I am the muse at center stage for everyone's scrutinizing eyes, the subject of discussion for today's family meeting.
"Grandpa went and did it this time, a family meeting while people are tired from the party and did not even get a chance to rest will be featuring a lot of cranky people." Jack said to me then paused and resumed "This is surely going to be the highlight of my year." he said in a hushed tone but with a dumb grin on his face
" ha ha ha, I did not know that your highlights featured me being the bunny being fed to the wolves in the hall," I said whispering a response back to him.
" Then I will be your knight in shining armor only in an enormous rabbit suit representing the Giant rabbit that will take revenge on those wolves as soon as I grow out of my fluffiness," he said with the same grin
While rolled my eyes and said, "I should move from the kiddies' table since I have been promoted and leave you with your childish daydreams." Though we are joking I am very nervous for this meeting because I did not tell anyone about my engagement and no one might back me. Do not get me wrong Grandpa loves me or so he says but I know that he won't readily agree to this though he eventually as for my dad, let's just say that he does not like surprises at all. So it is gonna be difficult to convince them.
Jack snickered then said " you do not understand the power of imagination sister." I just rolled my eyes at him.
So yeah, we are divided into groups according to our age then we must sit at our assigned table, this is very organized and keeps the "adults" from fighting over who gets a sit next to the family head. Very mature, huh? But I am sitting with Jack at his table instead of my seat i recently got thanks to the twenty first held for me, Its mainly because Jack is fun but the other reason is I might get demoted so why sit there if i will be chased away later? Oh, Grandpa is here we are beginning.
Following Grandpa's enterance most of the adults, including my dad, entered the room. The tradition is that the younger generation must go in before everyone else in the meeting room because they represent the family's future and so they must be placed first in matters affecting the future of our family though we have no say most of the times just like in this case.
The future of the Falls family comprises 13 grandchildren for Grandpa. The first uncle ( Leonard) and his wife have 2 children Lydia (23) and Leah(23). They are the actual twins of our family. I have no comments whatsoever on these two cousins...just that we do not see eye to eye and they use Elissa to do their dirty work. The elders considered this a misfortune because no one would be able to continue the family name in uncle's family, that is how they put it I think and uncle was not happy about this at all. This is the number one reason why his marriage is having troubles and the PR department is always putting out fires from various scandals.
The second uncle (Arthur) and his wife have 4 kids, Ryder(22), Chase(21), Levi(19), and Wyatt(18). The family is heavily divided his wife (aunt Flora) and 2 sons are fighting for good while 2 sons and my second uncle are lackeys of the dark lord ( first uncle). My third uncle (Lucca) is my favorite mainly because he brought me a super cool aunt, supermodel Lyala Smith, and his son is Jack (16).
My dad is the 4th son and he has me(21) and my brother (25) and sister (26)but no wife...
My fifth uncle also has three kids, Theodore(18), Finn(16), and Brook(13). Lastly, My Grandpa also has a daughter ( Olivia Falls-James) who is married to a prime minister and has no kids. She has been the reason why family meetings were called most of the time this year but still, none of the elders could convince her to have a child.
"You may begin." commanded Grandpa as he was sitting in his chair holding on to his walking stick. I was shocked at the relevation that Grandpa did not call us to the meeting but that some else did and I looked around i noticed that there some shocked faces while others were calm particularly among the elders.
" Ahem, Family head and the rest, good morning. The meeting's agenda is to rediscuss and revoke Alyssa's seat among the successors and therefore nullifying her rites ceremony." Elder Hamilton said in a strong determined tone.
* Muffled voices* all agreed with the opening statement of today's meeting.
I am more disappointed than anything honestly because it is funny how the very elders trying to evict me from my new seat are the same one who acknowledged my presence in the family a few hours ago.
" Wait, elder Hamilton, is that not too harsh? removing her as successor is a drastic call." one elder stated, he is one of the good guys.
" That is why i said discuss, elder Liam and your opinion has been noted. Thank you but please follow the proper etiquette to raise a point." Elder Hamilton stated seemingly annoyed at being interupted
" Please accept my apologies, Family head and elder Hamilton" He said this turning to them and giving a slight bow before sitting down
With a simple nod, GrandPa acknowledged elder Liam and proceeded to say "state your reasons." with no expression on his face.
" Her recent behavior has shown that perhaps we trusted her way too early and she would not be able to manage the responsbilities of this family for she can not manage her own life." he said making painting me in a light I would see myself in. He continued " though we can not revoke the acknowledgement from all elders in the guests' eyes regretfully, we should not let her unsightly behavior go unpunished... It would only make the public question us if we let this go." He concluded.
" Since when has public opinion been a part of our family laws? The familyhead has already acknowledged the child's potential in front of many people in our society. Now you saying that we must revoke her seat equates to going against the family head!"one elder exclaimed
Before elder Hamilton could answer, My first uncle counted " That is why we have the elders of the family, they are here to correct and guide father when perhaps his judgement is clouded...ahem for some reason." he said but Grandpa did not react.
" You have some nerve saying that Leonard! Your father is still a well and strong old man capable of thinking at a level you have yet to reach and probably never will!" Elder Merriam said, the only female elder in the family and always shares her opinions in a very 'spicy manner'.
Some of the grandchildren, Jack included, tried to hide the fact that this was funny because they could not just burst out laughing, they would be punished so they laughed in secret.
My first uncle in response said " I am not refutting the part about thinking, my father is hailed as the greatest commander in our country and I am proud and honored to be his son. However, what I am raising is that the elders can and should at least be involved in most of the decision-making in our family, and we as the children of the family must obey their words just as we follow Father's. That is how he taught us after all."
" Yeah right, you just said a lot of sugar-coated nonsense. Your acting won't work on me, you are 100 decades too late!" Elder Merriam said as she rolled her eyes and looked to the side as if checking something\
" I am offended elder, how could you mistake my good intentions for my family as acting?" My first uncle said
" Get to the point." This time Grandpa interjected
" Okay then, the follow is yours elder Hamilton." First uncle said to the elder before sitting again.
" I am proposing that all elders vote on the above-mentioned agenda." he said
" Just the elders? " My father who has been so quiet finally said something
" Yes, it is fair that way. It wll be impartial." elder Hamilton said to my dad. That is not true and i bet in his heart the elder knows this too, it's a ploy and everyone can see it.
The elders were given papers to write on for and against taking away my seat in the family and its business proceedings. " 1,2,3,4,5,6,...10 only 10 of of 35 voted against the proposed solution. The winner is very clear, there is no need to count the other." elder Hamilton stated.
I felt my heart sinking all the way to the pits of my stomach, I mean I expected this but I thought after they saw my achievements in all the tasks they had assigned me they would support me and yes, they did but only for a short while.
I worked hard to gain their trust and support and this is what I am worth in the end. A few handshakes later I am removed from a seat I was groomed for ever since I was 3 by my grandpa. He did not do me any favors in fact he trained me tirelessly just because he hand-picked me randomly so too. Thanks to this, I was aware of how family politics involved assassins, poison, accidents, and such to silence obstacles because I was one for many but I lived to this day only for ...disappointment?
