Emily heard the keys jingling and the doorknob turning and so, she called, "Leonard?" Seeing that it was indeed him, she asked, "How was the situation? Was Serena…" then she paused. "Oh, I didn't see you there." She said, her eyes curving as they met with Serena's. 

Serena's eyes widened slightly in surprise. Now this was a development she never expected. She wanted to turn towards Leonard and ask, but what was there to ask? Emily's presence in his private apartment already speaks for itself. But then, since when and why the secrecy?
