34 He Knows?!

After a long time of persuasion and sucking up, Wei Li finally managed to calm Wei Kangnuan down. However, he still had to try to solve the case on his own. At the same time, he was sure damn well that he would surely be interrogated by his own father.

He was not happy nor less stressed in the least. In fact, nervousness and fear were the only emotions in him throughout the entire "calming" session.

However, Wei Kangnuan was the exact opposite. He was now free and could use that extra time to play and tease Peng Mingzhu. Though, she naturally had no idea what was going on inside of his brain at the moment.

"Thanks for waiting for me," Wei Kangnuan said when he left the underground room.

"I needed your presence to enter the prisons without having people stopping me," Peng Mingzhu told him the honest truth as to why she agreed to have him following her.

"No matter what your reason is, I will still be happy to just get the chance to stand next to you," Wei Kangnuan chuckled lightheartedly while Peng Mingzhu was looking at him.

"You know, I never realized how handsome you were until now," Peng Mingzhu randomly stated out of nowhere, causing Wei Kangnuan to freeze in surprise.

Naturally, this meant that Wei Kangnuan was left behind by Peng Mingzhu. By the time he came back to the human world instead of the imaginary world, she was already at least five steps away from him.

"Do I really attract your attention now?" Wei Kangnuan asked with glowing eyes, expectations floating in his heart.

"As a friend," Peng Mingzhu immediately shot him down with her answer.

"That is unfortunate...because I want you as my wife, not my friend," Wei Kangnuan sighed with a depressed face.

"I advise you to stop pursuing me," Peng Mingzhu told Wei Kangnuan with a serious expression on her face.

"Why?" Wei Kangnuan questioned with a frown. "These are my feelings, so why do I have to stop them just because you say so?"

Peng Mingzhu knew he was right. She had no right to stop him from doing what he wanted to do. However, she was merely saying those hurtful words to him because she did not want him to get hurt even more when she left this world.

"Because I don't have any plans to stay in this country for long," Peng Mingzhu honestly admitted to Wei Kangnuan.

"Ah Nai…" Wei Kangnuan gave a sigh of frustration. "Can I ask you a few questions? Perhaps they might be too personal, but...if you answer them, I will seriously think about not loving you anymore."

"Go ahead," Peng Mingzhu nodded while they were continuing their walk to the prisons.

"Where are you from?" Wei Kangnuan asked.

"A place where you can never go to," Peng Mingzhu answered him honestly.

"And where is that?" Wei Kangnuan once again frustratingly asked.

"You won't know even if I told you," Peng Mingzhu told him.

"How do you know that if I have not even heard the name yet?" Wei Kangnuan asked her with a frown.

He did not like that she was doubting his intelligence. After all, in the entire continent, there was not a single place he has yet to venture. In fact, he knew about all the places in the continent better than anybody else.

Not only that, Donghua Continent was the only continent in the entire world. Despite the many ships sent out to seek for new land or such, they had all returned with no new news. Of course, they did learn and discover new sea life, but what they wanted was land where humans could live.

Heaving a sigh, Peng Mingzhu finally answered, "I come from a continent called Asia, a country called China, and where we mainly speak Mandarin. Let me ask you, have you heard of these before?"

As they were walking at a pretty fast speed, when Wei Kangnuan paused, Peng Mingzhu completely left him behind without noticing it at all. When she did notice, it was only when he spoke up to ask another question.

"You are really from a place called China?" Wei Kangnuan asked, his body shaking and shivering from excessive emotion.

Hearing his question, Peng Mingzhu paused to look back at the man who was now behind her by about twenty steps.

"Yes, why?" Peng Mingzhu answered with a confused look.

She did not understand. Why did he seem to know those names?

Shaking in shock, Wei Kangnuan abruptly walked to her and gave her one of the deepest stares she has ever experienced.

Unused to the strong gaze he was giving her and the close distance that was almost making their noses touch together, Peng Mingzhu slowly stepped back.

However, when she tried to distance herself from him, he immediately stopped her.

With an abrupt motion, Wei Kangnuan grabbed her shoulders to stop her from moving and continued staring at her dark black eyes.

"I was wondering during these past five days why you were so different from the rest of us… I guess… I know why now…" Wei Kangnuan mumbled in a voice that only she could hear. "No, that is not right. The feeling of familiarity, I know what it is now."

"You have...met someone like me before…" Peng Mingzhu asked, though her tone was mostly in a statement.

"They were not like you," Wei Kangnuan quickly told her. "That girl was you."

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Peng Mingzhu questioned him with a confused look. "I've never been here. This is my first time."

"No, it is not," Wei Kangnuan forcefully told her. "I know that it is you. There is no way I can recognize the little girl wrongly."

"Wei Kangnuan, I'm sure you're wrong," Peng Mingzhu once again told him with a frown now on her face.

"Ah Nai, you do not remember me?" Wei Kangnuan asked her. "The little boy that you saved back then?"

"Huh? Little boy? Just how old are you talking about?" Peng Mingzhu continued to be confused by everything Wei Kangnuan was asking her. "Wait, that's not even the issue. I can promise you that I've never been here before, so we definitely haven't met each other before."

However, Wei Kangnuan ignored her last two sentences, choosing to only focus on her questions that she asked, "I was seven years old when I met you. Guessing based on what I know now, you were probably five or six years old. Ah Nai, you really do not remember meeting me?"

When Wei Kangnuan asked his question, his eyes showed pain and hurt. These were two emotions that he barely showed. Emotions that he thought he did not know of much.

"How could I have met you at that age?" Peng Mingzhu asked him back. "When I was at that age, I couldn't even leave my own room, so how could I possibly have met you?"

"You did meet me," Wei Kangnuan stated with absoluteness. "We spent an entire week together. Playing. Arguing. Learning about each other. Ah Nai, you really do not remember me?"

"I told you where I came from?" Peng Mingzhu asked him.

"Yes," Wei Kangnuan said after hugging her body tightly onto him. "You told me that you were from a country called China. That the continent you came from was Asia. That you spoke Mandarin and sometimes Cantonese."

"Did I tell you my name?" Peng Mingzhu asked him again.

"You told me that you did not have parents, so you did not have a name," Wei Kangnuan answered while still hugging her. "You said that you did not know much about the world because you did not get to go out much. You said that one of your biggest dreams was to leave the underground room that was built for you by your guardians."

"It seems I spoke quite a lot…" Peng Mingzhu mumbled while still in his arms.

Then, she started laughing quietly at herself, "I wanted to say that the little girl you met was not me, but yet the more I hear, the more I know it's me. Haha… Truly… How did we meet? How...do I not have any memories of it?"

With so many mysteries and secrets in her life, she thought that she would never be able to live a normal life. And once again, the gods have proven to her that she was not meant for normality.

"Ah Nai, you really do not remember anything?" Wei Kangnuan asked her after moving their position so that he could stare into her eyes while she was still in his arms.

"I have such good memories that I can remember every moment of my life...but yet I can't remember having met you…" Peng Mingzhu answered while laughing at herself. "How pathetic…"

"It is okay," Wei Kangnuan patted her head. "I can help you to remember. I can bring you to places we went."

"Wei Kangnuan, we merely spent a week together, but yet you behave so close to me, as though I have heavily affected you life…" Peng Mingzhu commented as she also stared back at him.

"Because you have indeed affected me immensely…" Wei Kangnuan responded to her comment, thinking back to the old memories that he sealed so long ago in order to not feel the pain of separation.
