41 Special Meeting

Lin Yi informed Kimi Nishino about the matter, and although she was reluctant, she agreed to help him. They headed to headquarters together.

Lin Yi needed Nishino's assistance to realize his plan of dominating the Tokyo Ghoul world. Apart from sheer strength, he required her expertise in creating food alternatives for Ghouls, substituting human flesh. He trusted Nishino completely and felt at ease with her involvement.

However, Lin Yi's time in the 20th ward was cut short when he received a temporary transfer order from headquarters, instructing him to join the 11th Ward Special Countermeasures Unit.

"Is it really necessary?" Lin Yi pondered as he held the transfer order. He instructed Kurona Yasuhisa and Nashiro Yasuhisa, two sisters, to manage the affairs of the 20th ward branch in his absence. They could contact him via email for any decisions they couldn't make.

Then, he made his way to headquarters alone.

Unlike his previous meetings, the war conference room was packed with people this time. Four Special Class Investigators occupied the front row, but the renowned Kishou Arima was absent.

"Lin Yi, sit here," Yukinori Shinohara welcomed him, gesturing to an empty seat beside him.

Although the front row seats were reserved for Special Class Investigators and high-ranking officials, nobody objected to Lin Yi taking the seat. He didn't mind either and settled down comfortably, placing his hands behind his head. He casually asked Shinohara about the situation.

"What's going on?"

"Last night, Ghouls attacked the 11th ward branch. There were no survivors," Shinohara replied, his voice heavy. The CCG had already dispatched additional forces to deal with the frequent Ghoul attacks in the 11th ward. It was unexpected that this Ghoul organization would dare to openly assault the CCG.

It was akin to bandits attacking a police station.

Lin Yi was surprised and couldn't comprehend Eto Yoshimura's motive behind this. Besides angering high-ranking officials and spreading panic among the public, she would gain nothing from such an act.

Itsuki Marude stood at the front podium, continuing his speech. The war against this group of Ghouls in the 11th ward had become inevitable. If they failed to eradicate them, it would damage the CCG's reputation in the eyes of the public.

Suddenly, the conference room doors swung open with a loud bang, drawing everyone's attention. A white-haired "girl" nonchalantly entered the room.

"I'm Juuzou Suzuya, one of Special Investigator Yukinori Shinohara's subordinates. Sorry for getting lost," the individual introduced themselves.

Itsuki struggled to suppress his anger, his mouth twitching.

Shinohara covered his forehead helplessly.

"Heh, the newcomer you brought along is quite interesting," Lin Yi chuckled and teased, shifting his gaze away.

He knew that this seemingly attractive "girl" was, in fact, a boy.

"He always causes me trouble. But... he really does resemble you, Lin Yi. Both of you possess unrivaled talent," Shinohara remarked unexpectedly.

Lin Yi shrugged, not denying it, but he sneered inwardly.

You're mistaken. He and I are entirely different.

Indeed, Juuzou Suzuya possessed unparalleled combat talent. In the original story, after Kishou Arima's demise, he became the second generation of Arima, turning into the guardian deity in people's hearts. Yet, Juuzou Suzuya lacked any ambitions and could be easily manipulated.

Lin Yi glanced once again at Juuzou Suzuya, seated in the farthest seat of the third row. He was a natural weapon.

However, he was a weapon that anyone could control.

"The following is the operational plan for the 11th ward and the list of superior or higher-ranking investigators participating in the operation. Additionally... Investigator Lin Yi," Marude Itsuki addressed, singling out Lin Yi.

Lin Yi was momentarily stunned, not expecting his name to be mentioned separately in the meeting.

He turned his head slightly to look at Marude Itsuki.

"As a Top Investigator, you have one of the highest authorities for this operation," Marude explained.

"What does that mean?" Lin Yi inquired, still unclear about the situation.

Shinohara chimed in, shedding light on the matter.

"It means that, with your high authority, you can act independently without strictly following orders. Headquarters greatly acknowledges your strength. Instead of joining the main force for a direct assault, granting you some freedom will be more advantageous to the overall situation."

"Understood. I'll do my best," Lin Yi replied absentmindedly.

"Good. The meeting is adjourned. If you have any additional information or advantageous intelligence regarding the operation, report it to me later," Itsuki concluded, signaling the end of the meeting. Gradually, everyone left the conference room in pairs or groups.

"So, you're Lin Yi. Shinohara speaks highly of you, a talented and energetic young man," a few Special Class Investigators approached Lin Yi, initiating conversation.

Lin Yi recognized the middle-aged man speaking, Iwao Kuroiwa. He had a dignified appearance, tall stature, but his black hair was slightly thick. He was also a veteran Special Class Investigator of the CCG.

"Special Class Investigator Kuroiwa, you're giving me too much praise. It's putting a lot of pressure on me," Lin Yi replied, shrugging.

"Lin Yi, if you have time later, join us to see the secret weapon that the CCG has prepared specifically for this operation," Shinohara proposed.

Curiosity piqued, Lin Yi looked over. Technically, that should be the CCG's top secret. Currently, he was just a provisional Special Class Investigator, externally referred to as a superior investigator. He didn't have the qualifications to be privy to such information.

Iwao Kuroiwa nodded in agreement.

Everyone present understood that Lin Yi's combat prowess warranted promotion to Special Class Investigator. It was only due to his age and limited achievements that he had been held back for so long.

"Alright," Lin Yi agreed without hesitation.

The three of them walked together, heading towards the research laboratory of Professor A. That was their destination.
