Slime boss (P.4) – Chapter 9

* * *

After Aoi had taken a nice rest, we both ate lunch before preparing ourselves to enter the dungeon.

Aoi wore the usual clothes and a bit of light armor around her vitals, while I got a basic sword and a glock like usual.

"There appears to be fewer slimes compared to last time..."

"That's because we already defeated most of them."

Once we cleared out all of the remaining slimes, we finally arrived at the main gate, where the strongest slime awaited us.

"Are you ready?"

"...Yes!"

As we were glancing at the main gate, Aoi nodded with a hint of confidence.

With a resounding creak, the enormous gate-like doors creaked open, unveiling a vast, circular chamber illuminated by numerous torches lining the walls. And in the middle of the room stood a massive slime, almost the size of ten slimes combined.

We both walked right inside the room, causing the gates to close once again, indicating that we wouldn't be able to escape unless we killed it.

"Remember what I taught you."

"Yes!"

While Aoi seemed to be analyzing the slime, I gave her one more push as I waited behind her.

Since slimes are supposed to be one of the easiest monsters, based on what the door has revealed to me so far, Aoi can defeat the slime on her own.

However, my hand remained near the glock in case something would happen.

Upon entering the main boss room, where the main boss of this dungeon is, Sora waited near the main gates with a stern expression.

On the way here, we both took turns taking out the slimes, and Sora mentioned that I shouldn't push myself to the limits and conserve my stamina to fight the main and strongest slime.

At this point, I had already gotten used to the whip-sword, and my skills at maneuvering the whip had gradually improved.

However, the moment I entered the boss's room, I immediately realized that the size of this slime was massive, to the point where I wouldn't be surprised that it would be over ten meters in height.

'Can I really do this?'

The jelly that this slime had was way too thick. I wonder if I'm going to be able to reach its core.

'No…. I can do this!'

But complaining and wondering whether I can manage it or not isn't something I came here to do without planning.

Sora has been helping me train and focus almost every day for this moment right now. That's why I won't give up until the very end.

As the slime-boss noticed that we were inside its territory, it wobbled for a moment before jumping in the air with the intention of crushing my whole body.

"...Heup!"

I took a deep breath and immediately ran to the side in order to avoid the heavy, crushing body of this incredible, massive slime.

The slime slammed the ground with its weight to the point where I felt the ground shake for a split second. The weight of this slime was on another level. It almost felt like a huge boulder rather than a slime.

After having missed me for the first time, the slime wobbled its jelly-like body before jumping once again right away.

At first, I was truly doubting myself about going against this monster. However, as I continued to dodge and avoid its movements, I soon realized that this slime was not so different from the regular ones.

Its movement patterns were just as simple as the smaller ones.

Dodging another powerful blow from the slime, I seized the opportunity to wield my sword, allowing the whip to transform to its full length. In a flash, I targeted the slime, aiming to land several strikes while it remained immobilized for those critical moments following its leap.

*schlorp*

"....What?!"

Despite the whip's razor-sharp blades capable of effortlessly slicing through solid objects, the slime's body was really dense.

Before the slime could move back to its pattern and crush me with its weight, I pulled back the whip to its sword form, then immediately tried shifting to a different position.

Using normal attacks against this slime didn't seem to work, which is why I needed to think of another way.

'What can I do?'

Even if I continued to attack it over and over again, I knew that it wasn't going to work. The slime would heal itself before I could even reach its core.

As I kept dodging the slime, I continued thinking of a plan that would help me reach the core of this slime.

'Wait! The only difference between this slime and the normal ones are the sizes!'

With a new plan in mind, I began circling the colossal slime, attempting to freeze it momentarily before it could decide to leap and attempt to squash me.

I thrust the tip of the sword on it and activated the whip mode to its largest size as I ran for another lap around the slime while keeping the whip encircling it.

When the slime was about to jump once again, I suddenly stopped. More than half of my whip remained inside the slime.

'This should do it.'

With the blades of the whip still stuck around its body, the slime jumped in the air, destroying and ripping its own jelly mass.

And before It would land on the ground, I pulled the whip back to myself, causing even more damage to it.

'It worked!'

After the slime landed on the ground once again, it began gathering its own jelly and materials in order to regenerate its mass and size.

However, I wasn't going to allow that, which is why I took this opportunity to land my final strike while the slime was trying to regenerate.

Since I had dealt quite a lot of damage on the sides of the slime, I immediately charged towards it, and with my sword that was back in its solid sword mode, I went to its deepest gap and thrust my sword on its core, breaking the core in half.

And just like that, the jelly of the slime fell apart as the core was cleanly cut in half.

'It's not over yet….'

*Squish* *squelch*

The remnants of the slime began to squirm, gathering together until they reformed into two separate entities, each retaining substantial size.

While the sizes of the slimes were half those of the previous one, they still posed a great threat to me.

This was the special skill that Sora explained to me.

Even after destroying its core, the slime can divide itself several times for as long as there are remains and destroyed cores around.

Thus, the battle against the dungeon's boss resumed.
