Dangerous games

#Chapter11 Dangerous games

I've been to many fancy restaurants, but this is definitely on another level—crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, marble floor, tables decorated with incomparable elegance. I feel the people's gaze on the two of us as the waiter leads us to our table. I can hear how some whisper, and I understand them in parts.

/"Why is everyone looking at us that way?/" I ask my unbearable husband.

A half-smile reflects on his face expressing pride. /"Because the owner of the restaurant has come to dinner with his wife,/" he explains, and this was not what I expected.

I can only look at him and try to hide my astonishment. I can't let him know how impressed I am.

/"How many businesses are you in?/" I dare to ask, and he just shrugged his shoulders as if downplaying the matter.

/"In many/" is the only answer he gives me.
