ANOTHER DOSE

There is the all too familiar pin drop silence for hours on end. I have to wonder just how time works here. And this silence, it drives me insane. So I walk to the grilled door and start to drum my hands on the railings of the door. I half expected groans or at least some smart ass order to 'knock it off '

But as soon as the echo dies, the deafening silence is back. I try again but still no reaction. Not even Pier. And I looked at him the second time doing it but nothing. Seriously?

"Newbie, you won't last very long here if you keep that up. " The same voice from morning warns slowly.

At least not as pissed as before. But what's with the insisting to call me, 'newbie '. I get it I came here recently, no need to give me nicknames. I don't even get time to formulate a proper comeback when two shadowy figures appear from nowhere.

I am startled because one second they were not there and then the next they just appear from thin air. Literally.

As soon as they reach the door railings they pass through like it's not there. Like they are air passing through. That gets me thinking whether or not I could do that too. Will be the first thing I do tomorrow.

'Go to bed. ' Chant fills my brain. And I walk to the decker bed then climb onto the top one mine.

'Stay quite. ' Now replaces the previous chant.

As soon as I'm in my bed they leave mysteriously as they came . For a minute or two, I dare not move a muscle. I can't help wonder why they showed up today.

I want to go try getting out of this cage. I need to know what the deal is with it. So I hurriedly get out of bed and go to the door.

"Already? " Pier exclaims so I freeze on the spot and turn robotically to face him.

"What? " I demand impatiently.

"You can't get out don't bother. " Pier says dismissively.

Now he wants to talk!

"Oh yeah, how come. The shadows can. " I point out with a raised brow and hands crossed over my chest.

Instead of walking to me, Pier kind of just sits up and appears beside me. Wow, didn't think he will ever leave his bed. What do I know?

"You could do that too. In here ,but out there, you can't do anything. They railings are kind of alive and connected to the wardens. If any of us touches it they know and they come. Next time, they won't just tell you to go to bed. So stay away from the railing. " Pier explains and even though I'm still confused about everything, I kind of want to shake his hand for an explanation at least.

But wait...

"They don't talk. Why would you say they told me to go to bed. Did you hear them? " I ask puzzled and confused more.

"I didn't take you for that stupid Mystia. " He says condescending then walks back to bed.

Damn you Pier with your dramatics.

"The chants it's them?" I ask like I'm confirming it too.

I knew I just couldn't randomly chant things in my head. How does it work though?

"How do they do that? " I ask.

Pier clicks his tongue.

"I found them like that genius. How am I supposed to know? You can't exactly ask them when they are controlling your head you know. " Pier looks at me like I'm so stupid and he wouldn't know what to do with me.

I don't like the attitude he's been giving me lately. I like it when people see me as king and not a peasant. If he's not careful, we'll cross each other really soon and it's not going to be very good for him.

I go back to bed and just sit with my feet dangling off of it. Soon the usual night pandemonium begins. Time for scream juice.

I hate this part of the day. And they have come early today. Screaming is going to start pretty much early. Good thing I can evade it all. Good thing I can escape the chaos and distress. Before it wears off, then what?

I watch as Pier shudders ingesting the screaming juice and I hate whoever invented it more. I'm next.

I wait for the chanting in my head to start before I go to them and drink from the bottle of doom. Yap, it still tastes like death and misery. And then the luring to sleep. You can't resist it no matter how hard you try. And now it would be a good time to change to another version of me to watch me have a good night sleep.
