Chapter Five: An Offer

Valerie's heels softly clanked against the tiled floor as she headed towards her boss's office. Every step she made felt like she was drawing closer to her doom.

She finally got to the door but she didn't knock. She clenched and unclenched her hands and took deep breaths.

"Be calm Valerie, it's not like he's gonna eat you, it's just a nice, friendly talk. You are not getting fired after just two days of work! Relax! And if he even has a thought of harassing you, you can just kick him in the guts. Yeah!"

She repeatedly assured herself and finally with held breath, knocked on the door. She waited for a few minutes

"Come in"

The gentle yet icy voice reached her ears and she softly opened the door and went in. She shuddered as she got inside the office. It felt amazingly cold for some reason, and the man seated at the centre of the room gave it an even more chilly feel.

He glanced at Valerie

"Miss Henders, I have a job for you"

Valerie's eyes perked up at the mention of that. It was not even up to two days and the boss already wanted to entrust her with work.

She gave a short smile as her composure relaxed and she put her hands at her back

"Whatever you need sir"

"I have something really important for you. Something that I can't trust anyone else with. Do you think you can do it?"

She tried to control her excitement. From his tone, you could tell it was something huge

"Anything for the company sir, I'm up to the task!"

His countenance turned serious as he put his hands under his chin

"Now listen, I need you to..."

Valerie stood fuming in the elevator.

How dare that arrogant man?!

How dare that obnoxious, double faced liar?!

How dare he trick her like this?!

She stared at the cup in her hands and the anger increased again

He called for her, claiming to have something 'important' for her to do and she was happy.

He got her hopes up, only to dash them!

Apparently, the 'important' job he had for her was to get him a cup of latte.

A cup of latte!!

And the worst part was, she had to use her own money to pay for it

"I forgot my wallet at home, and I don't have any cash on me. As an employee of this company, you have to pay for this. Think of it as a welcome treat for your boss" he claimed.

She was livid with rage. That man didn't deserve to live and she would show him that just because he was in a higher position, didn't mean he could take advantage of others!

She would show him that she was not a person to be trifled with!

When she brings his latte to him, she would throw the contents of the cup into his ugly, stupid, smirking face!

Valerie watched with contempt as he slowly drank the latte and dropped the cup on his table.

You didn't expect her to actually splash his face with a latte?! She wasn't ready to lose the job she worked so hard to get for years!

"Anything else, sir?" She asked with disgust as he smiled at her.

She wanted nothing more than to escape from the blood sucking leech in front of her!

His smile widened. He was obviously revelling in her displeasure.

"I have an offer for you"

She blinked at him quizzically, but she said nothing.

He took her silence as a sign to proceed

"I want you to be my assistant"

Her eyes almost popped out of her sockets.

What on earth was he saying?!...
