14 14. 'His...wife?'

Anna didn't know if she should feel bad for disliking Zhu Jia at first sight.

Perhaps Anna's impression of Zhu Jia would have changed if Zhu Jia presented herself well to Anna for the first time.

But Zhu Jia only made Anna's impression of her worse. With the way Zhu Jia had reacted earlier before going to call Wei Yan, Anna knew that she needed to be careful around Zhu Jia until she was able to speak to George about firing her.

Therefore, Anna couldn't eat the meal Zhu Jia brought to her room for her to consume. And this attitude of being extremely watchful didn't apply to Zhu Jia alone.

Anna needed to be watchful of who and what she associated herself with. Besides, this was how Anna used to be in her past life.

She had a huge trust issue and would barely eat anything that didn't come from her family. She limited her association with people and even her assistant knew her boundaries.

Anna couldn't fathom why she was built that way but she loved how she was and in this new life she possessed, she'd be more cautious of her surroundings and people surrounding her.

Wei Yan dressed Madam up before dialing her master's phone number. "Is there something you want to tell the Master?" Wei Yan asked while the phone was ringing.

"Yes, I hope he isn't too busy to pick up my call," Anna uttered, staring at Wei Yan's phone.

Then Anna's gaze drifted to Wei Yan who was focusing on the phone screen. Anna slightly tilted her head and decided to ask what happened to her hair but her attempt to proceed was terminated because George answered the call.

Anna couldn't collect the phone to talk to him so with the speaker on, she spoke to him.

"Wei Yan," George sounded worried when he answered.

"Sorry to disturb you, Master! Madam insisted that she speak to you so I had to call," Wei Yan explained.

"Is she awake? Oh, I should have told you to call when she wakes up. How is Anna?" George asked over the phone.

Wei Yan took a short period to explain to her Master what Madam had done after waking up and then she informed her Master that Madam was around.

With that, George concentrated on Anna. "I wonder why you want to speak with me. It flatters me, you know," George uttered.

Anna rolled her eyes. "I just wanted to ask you for permission, George. Stop dreaming."

"Permission, hm?"

"I want to go outside to get some food," Anna clarified.

"Is anything wrong?" George asked.

"Are you visiting me tomorrow?"

"Of course, Anna. I dare not."

Anna found that as an exaggeration and focused on the questions she needed answers to.

"But I'll only be available in the evening. I hope I didn't disappoint you, Anna," George said.

"No," Anna lied.

"Are you sure?"

"No, why would I be disappointed?" Anna asked.

"True, there's no reason for you to be disappointed," George chuckled. "So tell me why you want to leave the house at this time."

"I just crave some…you know. I just…" Anna didn't want to say the things she planned to tell George because Wei Yan was around her and she felt it was something she couldn't share over the phone.

"What's your reason, Anna?" His voice sounded as if he was already tired of speaking.

"I'm probably disturbing you," Anna uttered.

George chuckled again but exhaustingly. "I'm on my way home, Anna," he groaned.

Something twitched in Anna's heart when George groaned her name in a way she found attractive. What the heck?!

"Can I go outside or not?" Anna asked.

"No, you aren't allowed to. You need to protect yourself so hang in there. I'll take you out on a date when you gain your powers back," George answered.

"Cringe," Anna reacted.

"I expected that," George chuckled again. He sounded tired and sleepy.

Anna wasn't interested in sharing anything other than friendship with George even though she was feeling regretful with the way the previous Anna treated George.

"I wish I could just talk to you until I get home," George said.

"And why?"

"I feel relieved hearing your voice. I waited four years for you and I just can't believe that I'm actually hearing your voice, Anna," George sounded like a drunk man to Anna.

"Did you drink, Master George?" Anna found herself smiling at his remarks.

"No, but this isn't the response I expected," George answered.

"You sound drunk, and what are you trying to do Master George?"

"Trying to make you, Anna, understand that it's not safe for you to go out for now because I can sense that you are going to stick to asking me to let you go," George spoke.

Anna pressed her lips into a thin line. "What am I going to eat then?" She asked.

"Aren't the servants available to make that for you?" George asked.

"Never mind," Anna looked away and glanced at her image in the mirror.

Anna noticed her slim stature. She also couldn't tell if she was more beautiful than Anna because Anna was just as perfect.

Well, Anna was a famous figure so she had to put a lot of effort into her appearance. And she happened to remain in the same stature even after four years of being unconscious.

"Are you upset with me, Anna?" George asked. "I promise, I'll take you out myself…"

Anna cut him off. "I'll talk to you when you arrive tomorrow."

Her statement was very sound, notifying George that she didn't want to continue the conversation.

"Enjoy your night," George uttered before hanging up the call.

Anna sighed after hearing that he hung up. Wei Yan dropped her phone in her pocket and turned to her Madam.

"Are you okay, Madam?" Wei Yan asked.

"Of course, I'm not fine," Anna answered. "I can't move," no one could understand how miserable Anna felt about being unable to perform some actions.

"Madam, trust me, tomorrow, you'll look back and laugh at what happened today because you've already succeeded in your goal. So don't be worked up, Madam. Master George is here for you," Wei Yan's words were comforting and promising until she mentioned George's name.

'Wait a moment, who do these maids think I am to George? His…wife?'
