3 Who are you?

The light from the window was blinding and her body was stiff. Eun Hee's eyes which felt heavy fluttered. She struggled to open her eyes but when she did, the light from the sun was intense causing her to close her eyes almost instantly.

Again, she opened her eyes adjusting to the light from the window. Eun Hee looked at her surroundings confused. Her body felt so heavy and for a minute, she thought she was a corpse.

Slowly, she struggled to get up but she felt someone holding onto her hand. Eun Hee looked at the person sleeping by her bedside. This was someone she didn't recognize.

Just then, memories from what happened before flooded her mind. She felt severe pain in her head even though she recalled being shot in her back.

The pain started slowly but soon became unbearable. She raised her left hand to massage her temples but in the next second, she screamed in pain because of the excruciating pain she experienced in her head.

All the memories from that rainy day were coming back and she recalled as she fell from the mountain while trying to escape her captors.

The person sleeping by the bed jerked up when she heard Eun Hee's screams. At first, she thought it was from someone else but when she saw her daughter seated on the bed, Mrs Kim couldn't help but feel happy and distressed.

She tried calming Mi Soo (Eun Hee) down but she seemed to be in so much pain that she didn't even hear her mother speak.

Mrs Kim ran out of the room and called for the doctor's attention. The doctors soon came running in with some nurses trailing behind.

"Ms Kim... Can you hear me!" he called out to know if he could deliver the anaesthetics or if this was something she could battle.

After getting no response from Mi Soo, the doctor was left with no other choice. The nurses held Kim Mi Soo down while the doctor injected her.

Mrs Kim watched her daughter from outside the room with tears in her eyes. She didn't know whether or not to be sad.

It has been nine months now since her daughter Mi Soo has been hospitalized in a vegetative state. Seeing her wake up now was relieving but seeing the poor girl in so much pain broke Mrs Kim's heart.

The doctor soon came out and had a word with Mrs Kim. "The young Ms seems to be in pain because she just woke up. She probably already remembers the details of that incident which caused her to react that way. She is currently out of danger and will most likely be up in an hour."

The doctor did not administer any sleeping injections to Mi Soo because she just woke up from a nine-month coma but the poor girl still fell asleep after receiving the anaesthetics.

Mrs Kim couldn't find the words to say at that moment and could only nod. The doctor walked away and someone ran down the hallway after seeing the doctor leave.

Cha Mi Jo just arrived at the hospital and saw the doctor talking to Mrs Kim who looked worn out. She rushed up to Mrs Kim and asked if there was any update.

"Maam. Why was the doctor here? Didn't they do the normal checks already?" she asked confused.

Mrs Kim looked at Mi Jo tiredly. Her lips soon curved slightly upwards. Although Mrs Kim was smiling, Mi Jo could see the sadness in those eyes of hers.

"Why?" Mi Jo asked confused. "Did something happen to Mi Soo?" she asked worriedly. For nine months, she had been coming to the hospital none stop to see her friend. She didn't know what would happen if Mi Soo gave up now.

Just as she was about to barge in, Mrs Kim spoke. "She woke up."

Mi Jo's hand which was already reaching for the doorknob stopped halfway. She wasn't sure she heard what Mrs Kim said.

Mi Jo turned around and asked shocked, "What did you say ma'am?" she wanted to know if she heard wrong.

"Our Mi Soo... woke up. She woke up..." Mrs Kim was too exhausted and looked like she was about to faint. Luckily, Mi Jo was fast to catch the poor woman.

She took Mrs Kim to a chair and then went to get her some water. "You should leave for work. I'll call you when she wakes up again." Mrs Kim suggested but Mi Jo shook her head.

"I'll call for a day off."

Shortly after, a man in his forties and an older man in his seventies walked in. The man in his seventies looked younger than his age. He had a pair of glasses hanging on his nose and was walking with the aid of a walking stick. Even though he used these things, he still looked way younger than his age.

Mr Kim walked up to Mrs Kim who bowed to grandfather Kim in respect. "What did the doctor say? How is she?" grandfather Kim asked in a calm yet bold voice.

"She just received anaesthetics. He said she would be up in less than an hour." as she spoke, she glanced at her husband from time to time. He had an expressionless look on his face.

The grandfather sighed heavily. "Why are you staying outside here? I want to go in to see my granddaughter."

Mrs Kim nodded "The doctor didn't restrict anyone from going in father."

The old man walked into the room after listening to his daughter in law. His walking stick made slight noises but he soon got to the chair beside Mi Soo's bed and sat there.

After him, Mr Kim walked in still with an expressionless face. Mrs Kim and Mi Jo also followed as well.

Grandfather Kim was happy to see that she wasn't on life support. He stretched his hand and caressed Kim Mi Soo's hair slightly. "It's my fault that this happened. I should have known you were unhappy with our agreement." after he said this, Mr Kim walked out.

The old man shook his head watching his son walk out of the room. 'That punk is still as cold-hearted as ever.'

He turned to Mi Soo and spoke, "Never mind your father. He is a jerk." ever since Mi Soo got into that accident, grandfather Kim always visited her and when he did, he would speak to her as though she could hear him.

Mi Soo's eyes fluttered and when the old man saw this, he stood up and looked at her closely. Mi Jo and Mrs Kim also drew closer.

Eun Hee saw an old man staring at her closely. Although his image was blurry at first, it soon became clear.

Mrs Kim hurried to alert the doctors while Mi Jo and grandfather Kim stayed by Mi Soo's side.

Cha Mi Jo helped her friend sit up before sitting next to her. Grandfather Kim was excited but didn't show it because he didn't want to cause her a headache.

"Are you hurt anywhere? Do you feel any pain?" he asked her but Mi Soo just stared at the old man confused.

"Who... are you? Where... am I?" she asked shocking grandfather Kim and Mi Jo.

Mi Jo was startled a minute but then smiled slightly in order to not make her friend uncomfortable. "Mi Soo, it's us... Have you forgotten Grandfather Kim?" she struggled to maintain a calm expression.

Eun Hee could not understand why they were calling her another name and why the young girl was calling the old man her grandfather.

She shook her head slightly and then wanted to come out of bed without answering their question but they stopped her.

"You should stay in bed dor a while. You aren't fine to walk around yet." Mi Jo suggested and Eun Hee nodded.

Her body was too weak and she didn't even know for how long she had been hospitalized. Just then, Eun Hee remembered her parents and wonder why they weren't there.

"My... Parents, where are they?" she asked looking around worriedly.

Grandfather Kim was sad but didn't show it too much. "They are just outside. They will be here in a moment." as he was talking, Mrs Kim came in with the doctors.

"Oh there she is." grandfather Kim pointed but Mi Soo's brow furrowed. The woman standing in front of her wasn't her mother and she was sure of that.

Just then, Mr Kim also walked in. "Your father is also here." grandfather Kim pointed hoping that after seeing her parents, she would remember.

Mi Soo's brow furrowed deeper. The doctors noticed her confused gaze then one of them asked, "Ms Kim, do you feel weird?" of course, she would feel weird after waking up from a nine months coma.

Kim Mi Soo looked at the doctor and asked, "Who are these people? Where are my parents?"

Everyone exchanged glances worried for the poor girl. Even Mr Kim was shocked this time around.
