Ch8.2: Respite

Chapter 8.2: Respite

I took a deep breath to calm myself, I sat on a nearby tree stump as I continued to stare at the moths flying above us. Qi Fei approached me and sat beside me.

"What was that about, Xi Yin?" He asked, his voice sounded calm with no hint of distaste.

At one time he doesn't ask, but the next he's so straightforward.

I should explain nevertheless.

"It's something I had been planning to create before, these flute and those moths should be useful for us when we move to the higher realm. We could've used it earlier, but I haven't prepared it yet because I had been too distracted. But we're alive so there's no point on thinking too much about what we could've done." I say that, but I'm still thinking about it. At least I'm not acting like a bastard like I did before.

I extended my hand and three moths landed on it, their white wings exudes cold white Qi, blue Qi lingering around them. Qi Fei winced and slide away, putting some distance between us.

"Do you hate the cold?" I asked.

"No, I like it, actually. I use it as another excuse to be busy styling clothes. Ah, while we're on that topic, remember when you caught me embroiding Yihan's clothes? I had enchanted them with protection seals!" Qi Fei excitedly pulled out a pile of neatly folded hanfu. I can certainly sense something different from them.

He pointed at the embroidery in one of them, "This embroidery isn't just a decorative one, I use the symbols created by the emperors that I learned back in Qianwei, I think my brothers left the manuscript on purpose to distract me from actually participating in what everyone was assigned to do, until the time that I was assigned to look after you, now that I'm thinking about that time, Qing really is terrifying for being able to manipulate my memory, it's giving me chills. Ugh..." He said as he hugged the pile of clothes dramatically. That really must've felt uncomfortable, unknowingly lying to everyone and even to yourself.

I would've gone mad after learning the truth if I was him.

Qi Fei cleared his throat and sat properly, he paused for a while before resuming to speak. "Actually, I was really suspicious of you even after I agreed on the deal. You rarely talk much, and you're always doing or planning something strange. Like on that day you wiped out the hideout on Qianwei, you suddenly started dragging me somewhere dark and then a little while after dropping me on my ass, you were suddenly carrying a body on your arms. That really terrified me that I immediately agreed when you offered a deal. Anyway, I don't really have any purpose in telling you this, I just thought I should let you know. I'm not like you who can keep everything down."

How can someone be so talkative...? But, this isn't really a waste of my time so, I'll listen.

"Well, that's all I really wanted to complain about. Maybe I'll make a list next time, so I won't miss a thing and then the next time want to buy something, I'll take the payment from you instead!" He laughed before sneezing loudly after a moth landed on his nose. I was going to say that he reminded me of a golden retriever, but his latter statement is shit.

I have to admit that it's probably my fault though, I'm quite the bad influence, huh? Wait no, that wasn't really me, it was the moon emperor.

I sneered, "You call that complaining? It looks like you're the child between us after all!" Actually, I know he's just being mature, but I can really no longer deal with this nice and wholesome talk, I had always been an introvert back in the real world. I'm no good in socializing, if anything I suck at it.

I literally rarely talk at all. I'm not good at communicating and reciprocating feelings...

But then being like this might trigger that moon emperor, what a bother...

I took a deep breath and played a softer tune, the moths and the freezing Qi that surrounded a huge area of the forest until the field where the goats are, immediately disappeared as if it wasn't there just a moment ago.

"You're really the worst at talking, Xi Yin." He spoke and laughed. After he had calmed down from laughing, he returned Yīhán's clothes into his interspatial bag and stood up to dust himself before pulling out a fan to hit my head, he turned around and dragged Yīhán with him. The two started to walk together and I followed closely.

Just why does this guy like to hit me? Is he trying to ... Get back at me?

Whatever, I'm not even mad.

Before finally leaving the forest, we decided to use the paper masks to change our appearance. We might have some trouble in accessing the inn, but that is better than abruptly getting caught. Although we still have the token to the inn, so we probably wouldn't have any problem at all. We rode a carriage to reach the Inn faster...

Walking sucks, when can we fly? Maybe when we enter the higher realm would it be possible then?

After Qi Fei handed the token, we immediately returned to our room and the two took everything they had left in there. Meanwhile, I searched the room for any object that his siblings had planted somewhere in here. After a while, I couldn't find anything suspicious, everything here was a normal object until I walked closer to the lamp. There was a lingering trace of his Qi on it, this must be it.

Such a sneaky bastard, it's probably best that I destroy this. We all could get in trouble if their father would find this thing.

As I examined the lamp further, Qi Fei peered from the back of my head. He spoke, "Oh? Are you going to take that lamp? Brother Wen said that it was the artifact that they used to knock all of us out, it's similar to the incense."

"No, we don't need this. Go and help Yīhán, wait for me outside when you two are done." I answered, Qi Fei nodded before turning around to continue packing up their belongings into his interspatial bag before heading downstairs.

Now, how should I destroy this thing? I don't plan to do anything grand though. If anything, simple is best.

Hmm...

Should I just freeze this? That way Qing Fei's Qi will be overwritten by mine and in the future, I can refine it, so I could use it when we would need something like this.

I pulled out the flute and played a short tune, one moth appeared and wrapped the whole lamp in painful freezing ice, my Qi and the unique Qi that the Ice and moths has completely concealed Qing Fei's traces. Unfortunately, my palm was pierced as a sharp part of it touched my bare palm, but there was no blood that came out.

Strange... It pierced my skin, but there is no blood. Should I stab myself again?

Stupid as it is, I attempted to wound my arm this time.

Still none and the areas that were stabbed has now disappeared...

What am I? What is this guy?

I sat in silence for a while before snapping out from my thoughts, I stored the flute and the lamp on my interspatial bag and went down the stairs.

Whatever that was, it should have something to do with this Moon Emperor, I had no such ability.

I sighed, I'll think about this again later. We have to leave as soon as we could.

According to the map, the entrance to the higher realm is on the far south, the edge of this realm. That reminds me, we should see If Li Qian is in the auction house, although we are leaving very abruptly he must make his decision if he really wanted to become a martial disciple of a sect, but then both Yīhán and Li Qian are still weak especially Yīhán. I have to do something about that.

I stood behind the two who was waiting behind a carriage, the coachman immediately noticed me and politely asked Qi Fei and Yīhán who only stared at him while Qi Fei nodded. Before riding inside, I told the coachman to stop by at the Dawn's Auction Pavillion.

It will take a while before we could reach the auction house with a carriage, so I should use this time to think of a way to bring these two safely on the higher realm.

For Yīhán, he's absolutely void of any cultivation, but I could feel Qi inside him which is actually normal for everyone born in this world, people all have a small amount of Qi that resides in their body, but for civilians who doesn't cultivate, it's useless.

I have something in mind, but it's very strange. From what I read from the manuscripts from the system way back in the first week that I came here, there are other inhabitants in these lands.

Aside from the Human Clan, there are three main inhabitants who have been living with the humans in these lands. First, the Dragon Clan, Demon Clan and lastly, the Beast Clan. Dragons and Beasts both lays large eggs which are supposed to be their child, and I currently have one egg in my system inventory, but I'm not sure if it belongs to a beast or a dragon. But, all hatchling who are born into these two are born naturally strong, but of course the Dragon Clan is much stronger, a beast's hatchling on the other hand behaves like a normal beast when they are still small while a dragon hatchling can already understand information suitable for the comprehension of an adult human.

But, of course I won't mind whatever that egg is, as long as my idea would work since I haven't really tried refining a living being into an egg. Is it even really possible?

A little late this time because I had a small accident, but it wasn't something I can ignore. Anyway, here's the second chapter for this saturday! Thank you for 5k reads!
