17 Chapter 15: Florida Water?

Chapter 15: Florida Water?

Certainly, times have changed, and the outdated six-shot revolver, which takes several seconds to reload even with a speed loader, is no longer in use.

However, the striking blue-black Colt Python with its 6-inch barrel caught Jack's attention. He handled it carefully, feeling the weight of the powerful weapon, which was almost twice as heavy as his Glock 22.

Touching the ivory grips on the gun handle, Jack couldn't resist admiring the might of such a formidable firearm. Men are naturally drawn to such power. In his youth, he loved watching detective series like "Hunter" which was full of these kinds of weapons.

"Take it and use it. My previous backup gun had a 3-inch barrel. When I retire, my LAPD colleagues chipped in to customize this Colt for me. I've only test-fired it five times, and it performs exceptionally well."

Hunter's gaze towards Jack was resolute, his cheeks flushed. Seeing his only functional left hand tremble as he held the box, Jack held back his initial refusal and made a decision.

"Uncle Hunter, have you heard of traditional Chinese medicine?"

Of course, Jack knew nothing about traditional Chinese medicine. His knowledge was limited to preparing herbal food for Zoe and having goji berries in his thermos cup as a middle-aged remedy. However, he could use some yin-yang and tai chi theories, the five elements cycle, and similar concepts to impress the Americans and conceal the miraculous effects of his healing technique.

In the following half-hour, Jack eloquently convinced the elderly couple to give his massage technique a try. To boost credibility, he even pretended to have a grandfather who once served as the imperial physician for the Emperor.

Finally, the allure of regaining the ability to stand up convinced Hunter to give it a shot. Jack used the Chinese herbal oil he asked Hannah to bring from his attic, and carefully moved Hunter back to the bed, finding it somewhat amusing and odd at the same time.

The last time he used this oil was during a romantic moment with Zoe, and now he was massaging a 70-year-old man with it. It felt a bit peculiar.

His mastery level healing technique was even smoother than last level. After two hours of hard work, Jack discreetly used his powers several times. He repaired the brain damage and helped Hunter's atrophied muscles recover, allowing the numb right side of his body to regain some sensation.

"It's incredible, how did you do it? It's beyond imagination." Hunter trembled as he raised his previously unresponsive right hand, trying to bend his fingers, his face filled with disbelief.

"Uncle Hunter and aunt, I must clarify something first. I don't possess a medical license, so I won't admit to anything I just did, and I hope you can keep it confidential, especially from your family doctor. Hunter's recovery from the stroke is solely attributed to his own determination and persistent rehabilitation."

It was essential to have a non-disclosure agreement. Although Jack trusted these two elderly individuals not to cause trouble, the American laws that favored the wealthy were highly vexing. If any doctor noticed and reported this, he couldn't fathom the repercussions. He didn't want to get entangled in issues or end up with a criminal record due to a moment of kindness.

"Oh my God, Jack, you must be an angel sent by God to rescue us. You have no idea; we were even considering finding a suitable nursing home. Thank you so much."

Dee Dee McCall hugged Jack, tears streaming down her face. Even the resilient McCall detective seemed worn out during this time. Hunter's collapse had dealt her a severe blow.

The originally planned half-day visit extended into a full day. As Jack held the gun box and Hannah prepared to leave, the sun had already set.

"I'll return next week for another treatment. Uncle Hunter should fully recover in about two months. Please keep this between us." Jack stressed, feeling anxious.

Having emotionally recovered, Dee Dee nodded fervently, bidding a reluctant farewell to the two.

As Hannah drove, her ecstatic expression intrigued Jack. Why was she so thrilled?

"Why do you seem happier than Dee Dee?"

"Because I finally uncovered one of your secrets! You actually know about mysterious traditional Chinese medicine, something even Zoe doesn't know."

"Ha-ha." Jack was speechless, finding it challenging to understand her thought process.

"As a condition for keeping this secret, can you tell me the name of that mysterious Perfume you've been using recently?" Hannah smiled cunningly, resembling a sly little fox.

"Huh? What Perfume? As an advanced evolved human, I don't have any body odor. I don't even need deodorant. Why would I need Perfume?" Though his view differed from his previous understanding, even Western straight guys used Perfume to mask body odor. But he genuinely didn't require it.

"Don't deceive me. Ever since you became a cop, you've had this delightful mint-like scent on you. Just tell me, I've been searching for the same Perfume for so long."

Jack experienced a rare moment of mental shutdown. It took him some time to express his confusion, "Are you talking about the Liushen Florida Water I've been using? It's not precisely a Perfume; it's a kind of mosquito repellent. It also has a refreshing effect."

He felt somewhat helpless. In August, the daytime temperature in Los Angeles easily reached 37-38 degrees Celsius. Wearing long-sleeved LAPD uniforms made of wool was practically life-threatening. Without this thing, he'd be more than just dealing with heat rash.

What frustrated him most was that this product was only sold in some drugstores, and they had the audacity to charge $10 for it.

Wasn't that more profitable than those street dealers selling fake products? If it weren't for the system warning him incessantly whenever he considered returning to China and engaging in business, he wouldn't want to remain a struggling cop in this dangerous Los Angeles. He could make much more money importing small commodities from China and selling them to Chinese immigrants here.

The following day at work, Jack registered the exquisitely crafted Colt Python as his backup weapon at the police station.

When he came out, he noticed Hannah's Perfume, which could be overwhelming, drawing a crowd of envious female officers. It was only after they promised her numerous favors that they finally learned the source from Hannah, leaving him amused.

Today was undeniably a fortunate day for Jack. Even the usually professional Police Commissioner Gray showed rare appreciation for his life-saving actions. He declared that Jack had the privilege to choose to wear short-sleeved uniforms, leaving the other two rookies, John and Lucy, incredibly envious.
