7 Elion Nartur

Have you ever moved far away from your home? For example, going to a different city, country, or continent? If you have, you should have noticed the slight difference in everything once one does so.

The farther one goes from one's home, everything starts to change and at some point, one can barely recognize even the simplest of things. The surroundings always change and feel different. Is it the air or the water, I don't know, perhaps an aura? But there is a difference noticeable.

And where I had found myself was indeed far away; far, far away from home. An entirely different world... Perhaps, a universe.

I listened to the endless echoes of innumerable sounds and voices that could be heard as I followed behind Argon to answer the summons of Fingolfin, he had gathered all the important elves and somehow, I was also included.

But that wasn't on my mind, what I paid attention to was the world around me.

The air was clean and fresh the likes of which I had never seen on Earth, it rejuvenated me with every breath I took, giving me reassurance and strength. The gentle breeze was like the touch of a long-lost lover.

The sunlight was gentle and warm, for the sun was just born in this world and it was young. Its light dawned on the world, moving all into a new era of prosperity and good. Banishing the cold and darkness. With it came the promise of hope, love, and good tidings. A bright future ahead.

The earth beneath was firm as the hardest of stones, promising stability. Making one feel as if they could always rely on it without a doubt. It was covered in ice and snow yet the warm sunlight melted it slowly, making the surroundings feel cold yet warm.

The sky was a canvas of azure with paintings of white, no blemish or imperfection could be found.

Everything felt different, it smelled different, it tasted different. It dawned on me for the 1st time at that moment, I was in another world.

Without the stress of survival and the threat of death hanging on me, other things emerged and I paid attention.

It was beautiful, a world unpolluted and so foreign to me. I was mesmerized by its beauty.

It didn't last as I was awoken by the whispers I heard from elves around me. When I looked at them, they stared at me with a strange emotion I had never seen directed at me before. I listened to what was being said about me as I passed by.

"Is that Elion? The one who possesses command over Fire? The Nartur(MeansMaster/Possessor/Lord of Fire)?"

"Indeed, I saw him slay many orcs in the battle."

"He fearlessly charged to the heart of the enemy army then towards the commander of the orcs in battle even though he was suffering from sickness due to the cold."

"Others say he was surrounded by countless orcs and decided to lead them away to let lord Argon slay the commander, while he faced a hundred orcs by himself without fear and came out victorious."

"I saw it myself from far away, he marched on towards his own death so we could win the battle."

"Elion is of the Vanyar ancestry, it is of no wonder that he is so noble..."

I gulped rather loudly, 'How come they are making a big deal out of that? It was all luck! They even gave me a title!' I thought with exasperation. I realized that my power was a big deal since they even gave me a title because of it, I had to investigate it and research it, but it wasn't the time yet.

Looking back at their expressions, I understood it was respect and awe. It was the 1st time such things were directed toward me like that, and it felt good.

I became more confident and felt more energized and motivated by it. 'Being recognized as a hero is not bad at all, unfortunately, all heroes face a bad fate, so I should stay away from that and not let feelings control my actions.'

Then a thought occurred to me...

The Valar and Eru who was the god of this world, did they know about me? Won't their song and by extension, this world become ruined because of me? I was an otherworldly being; Someone not meant to be here. Countless things passed through my mind.

I sighed and let all my worries vanish, there was no reason to worry about things out of my control. All I had to do was to live my new immortal elvish life in a way that pleased and satisfied me. If beings out of my league had deemed me a problem, I would have died already.

As for what satisfied me and what I wanted to do in this world? The best course of action seemed to be to leave to the far east and ignore all wars... Yet I wasn't satisfied with such a thing.

I wanted to see and explore this world, being alive was not the same as living, I wanted to see the future cities the elves would build like Gondolin. The wonders they would create. The cultures, the legends, the magical abilities, I wanted to see it all. From elf to dwarf to men.

I was conflicted, on one hand, the easiest course of surviving the coming wars was running away, but on the other, I wanted to experience life as an elf in the 1st age as well...

Besides, perhaps by my existence in this battle and Argon surviving, I had already changed the future. Perhaps Morgoth would win due to a butterfly effect... My knowledge of the future couldn't be trusted, only used with caution.

There was too much for me to ponder about, I had to stop since I didn't have time as we arrived in front of a great tent, within I saw some familiar faces like Fingon and Fingolfin in the center.

"Join us," Fingolfin said warmly and then continued paying attention to Fingon who was speaking. Everyone glanced at us and did some sort of greeting with their eyes, I did the same even though I didn't recognize most. All elves looked extraordinary in their own way, handsome and beautiful, some more than others; By this point, I had grown used to it a little and felt slightly numb.

Argon pulled me to the side with him, for some reason he had become close to me and treated me like a friend, I ignored him and looked around searching for Nilendil, I hadn't seen her since I woke up.

"Due to the birth of the sun and the loss of their commander, the orcs fled towards the mountains of Ered Lomin, from there they will flee to the shadowy mountains, Ered Wethrin." Fingon stated calmly as he glanced in our direction and then continued, "They managed to take some of our own as hostages. We have two choices, chase them towards the north and go through Ered Wethrin to the plains of Dor Daedeloth or make camp at Hithlum to the east, regroup and march towards Thangorodrim to intercept them."

Everyone was silent, the atmosphere solemn. I felt a little giddy inside, here I was in a ruling council of ancient elves. It was surreal, At that moment I came to an interesting realization, the future is truly incomprehensible, one never knows where one might end up at any moment. I thanked my past self for reading and researching the lore of this world a little, otherwise, I would be blind to what they were saying without any idea where these places were...

We had arrived at the northwest of the continent of Beleriand through Hercaraxe, the grinding ice; And now we were at the edge of the land of great echoes, Lammoth, that was the land at the extreme northwest of this continent. To the east of Lammoth was a mountain range called Ered Lomin that separated it from the rest of the continent. Beyond Ered Lomin to the east was Hithlum.

Ered Wethrin or shadowy mountains separated Hithlum and Ered Lomin from the plains of Dor Daedeloth, to the north of those plains was the headquarters of Morgoth, Thangorodrim.

The silence was broken by Argon who stood to my left, "We have to chase them, we can't let our kin suffer at the hands of orcs."

An elf that bore resemblance to Fingon but was less approachable and distant came forward and said to Argon, "Younger brother, chasing them might prove to be foolish, especially when the mountains shield them from us. All of us are weary of the journey and recent battle, we can't reach them in time if we chase them."

"Turgon, we can't abandon them. If we make our way to Hithlum, it would be much more difficult to rescue them from the orcs for our path will be longer..." The elf that stood to my right said, I looked at him, interested in who he was.

Elion's memories seemed to have vanished after that dream as if he had passed away completely, taking away whatever I had not absorbed. So I had to learn everything I didn't know about, thankfully I had gotten their language from the memories, at least.

"Finrod, I understand and share your love for our kin, but we must make a wise choice. Chasing the orcs will be a fruitless endeavor." Turgon replied.

"What do you think, Elion Nartur?" Fingolfin said, everyone then turned to look at me.

'What?' I was taken by surprise.
