Dezi stood there as still as stone. “What?”
“I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying with your father.”
“What? Why?”
Rox looked over at Nick. “Nick, can I have a few minutes with Dezi?”
“Sure, son. I’ll be right outside.”
When Nick was gone, Rox looked over at Dezi and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything.”
“What are you going to do?”
“What I should have done a long time ago.”
“Did he threaten you?”
“No, Dezi, I’m here because it’s the only answer. I’m sorry…” His words suddenly stopped, he looked up at Dezi, and blurted out, “Dezi, he’ll kill you if I don’t! He knew the trailer he blew up was the wrong one. It was a warning. A warning to me. He was telling me that if I don’t cooperate with him, he’ll kill you. Dezi, I love you, but even if I didn’t I couldn’t sit back and let him kill his own son.”
“My God, is that what you got out of all this? That he wants to kill me?”
