Chapter 30

“What is it, Rox?”

“He killed him.”

“He? Who?”

“There was blood,” Rox whispered, thinking back while getting up from the table and pacing back and forth. “Flesh. A dead body.” He whirled around and looked at Dezi. “Oh, my God, it was Alfred!”

“It’s okay, Rox…I mean it’s not okay, it’s…”

“He was the one watching us that day,” Rox interrupted. “He grabbed me out behind the trailers…bound me up and threw something…a burlap bag or something over me.” He turned and began pacing again. “I remember a room…no, a cabin. Everything was rustic, smooth to the touch, as if it hadbeen varnished again and again.”

“Damn, Rox, don’t worry about how the fuckin’ furniture looked. Where were you?”

“I told you. It was a cabin.” Suddenly the look out of his eyes became haunted as he remembered. “He had a family. He…” Rox shut his eyes. “All I remember is a bullet pierced his skull, and his flesh, orbrain matter…something flew against the wall, and he dropped dead in his tracks.”
