Eternal Fate

A breath was taken, breaking the infinitely expansive silence. There was nothing, not a speck of light nor a fickle of anything in the bounds of imagination; there was only an expanse of nothing. It would remain as a fact as accurate as death to anything biological until suddenly it was broken by a lost wisp known as a human soul.

The soul was comparable to a lone star in a night sky, so minuscule in the plane of nothing but the focus of everything. It had a pale light that appeared of the purest quality but lacked intensity, a direct opposite of its surroundings in every form.

The soul was alive, it was the judge, the jury, and the executioner of a lone man's life. It was overseeing the life events of a human man who died due to suicide. It was to decide the man's fate after death.

While the soul was the only tangible existence on the plane of reality, another existence was overseeing the whole process as an omnipotent being.

"You shall make a decision now, how will you seal this poor man's destiny?" It was an ethereal voice from somewhere beyond the expanse of the void.

The soul pondered for a bit before replying... "What a sad life, he is truly an unassuming existence. He has a balance with karma where good never happens. His life, reality, and existence, all gave obstacles that are impossible for a mortal such as himself to change. He had no choice but to follow the path given to him with absolutely no way of changing."

"Yes, that is but the fate of all mortals. They have but almost no power to change their destiny, but it would appear that his fate was stringent." The ethereal voice spoke again as if in pity.

The man, Vince, was born in a reality where humans rely on their technology and currency to survive. The world in which Vince lived his life was in its modern period with jungle concretes of infrastructure and overly accessible information. He was born into a low-middle-class family who didn't care much for him as the oldest child.

He grew up introverted without many friends and was accustomed to being swallowed in loneliness. He took to video games and books as a form of comfort, it was his way of escapism.

He did once have a girlfriend in his high school years but found out she cheated on him with one of his only two friends. While he was wallowing in depression, his other friend moved and eventually lost contact with them too.

He tried to attend college, but no matter how he tried; he simply couldn't gather the funds after his parents kicked him out of the house on his 18th birthday. He spent most of his time job-hopping instead.

Eventually, he settled for a job at a warehouse moving packages for an online shipping company. The job was mind-numbing for Vince, he wished to start a business once but it no matter how he tried, it failed.

Years after working at the warehouse, he never received a raise or a promotion. He felt like an autonomous machine that couldn't do anything else. But even machines fail sometimes, he screwed up once and accidentally caused a fire in the warehouse costing millions of dollars in damages.

The court, which he thought would protect him, failed him. He was placed in debt he could never afford, and he felt himself dying internally. He felt like he was just going insane, how could his life feel so miserable? Why did nothing ever work for him? Is he truly as insignificant as data makes him out to be?

Vince felt betrayed, confused and immense self-haterade filled his entire being. He felt his blood boiling, he wanted to do a mass shooting; he wanted to prove that he wasn't so insignificant. He wanted to scream at the sky and curse the world. He fucking hated life and everything to do with it.

He was going crazy, he knew it. Vince knew he had to do something before he did something horrible. That night he found himself in his closet on a stool, he wanted to suffer for those thoughts he almost went through with. Vince will hang himself, he will feel the break in his neck, he will feel the intense suffocation, but in the end... he will find peace with the world for once.

Vince shed some tears with the rope around his neck, he deliberated for a long while... before his foot slipped and sealed his fate.

"Why was his life like this?" The soul asked the existence.

"Fate, Karma, Destiny are some of the laws above even me, truly something unimaginable. I have only a limited understanding of their true nature and am unable to teach such laws. His fate was given to him for an unknown reason, with his fate being of such nature; it should've been balanced but that does not seem to be the case. How strange... now cast your judgment." The omnipotent existence explained.

"I think he deserves another chance, a reroll of fate if you will? He ended his life before committing an atrocity, but never did anything outstanding either." Honestly replied the soul.

The existence agreed with the statement. "Reincarnation... sadly such processes don't exist in his reality. It lacks the laws to sustain a reborn. Other realities will also reject a foreign alien soul with it being incompatible."

The soul who judged the human fluctuated in pity, "Is there nothing to be done? Nowhere for them to go besides their heaven and hell outside of purgatory?"

"Do not fret, there is a place for souls with the same given judgment of reincarnation and the situation of being rejected. It's a mix of realities called the 'Tower', it would be the perfect place for him." The existence comforted.

The soul fluctuated as if it was in relief, "That's perfect, it will fulfill his deepest desires of adventure stemmed from the roots of his comforts of escapism."

The existence chuckled a little before ending the conversation "Not quite, he will not remember anything as a reborn soul. This has already taken effect as it will once again... Vince. Enjoy your new life at the 'Tower'."

I posted the first chapter on Wattpad and decided to change it over to WN.
