Chapter 15: Sorry, Not Sorry
"I don't want to do this," Gemma groaned as they walked from the car to the house, the scene bathed by the glow of the setting sun. She looked around with vague interest as she found herself at Max's childhood home for the first time since they'd started dating.
Just from looking at the facade of the enormous house and the expansive grounds, Gemma could tell they'd had very different upbringings. This was something that had never bothered her before but was now giving her pause.
"I know," Max said soothingly as he grabbed her hand and led her to the door. "She wants to apologize though. This dinner was her idea."
Gemma stopped walking, bringing Max to an abrupt halt. He turned and looked at her in question.
"If she does anything other than apologize, I'm walking out of there," Gemma told him warningly. "With or without you."
Max sighed but nodded. "Understood, but she's going to apologize."
