12 Danger

Elsa closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself down. "Since you drove my cab away, it's fair that you drop me home. But if you don't want to, I can book another cab."

When he took out her phone again, Desmond stopped her. "I will drop you." He unblocked the car

She opened the passenger door and stepped inside.

…..

[Inside the Car]

During the entire journey, Elsa leaned against the window pane with her eyes shut. She sighed from time to time, drawing Desmond's attention.

He kept stealing glances of her every now and then. He knew she was upset and he was the reason behind it. When she asked him if he would cheat on her after their marriage, he did not say anything. He could say she was hurt even though she tried to hide it well.

He opened his mouth to say something but couldn't find the right words.

Why was her silence bothering him so much? Was he upset because he made her upset?

Desmond frowned and tightened his grip on the steering wheel. Since when did he start caring how she feels?

She could feel awful and he wouldn't give a flying sh*t. That's how his relationship with her should be.

No strings attached. He couldn't afford to have any sort of feelings for Elsa, even if it was just sympathy.

"Drop me at the intersection," she instructed him. She wanted to get out of his car as soon as possible even if that meant walking for almost ten minutes to reach.

Desmond frowned. "Why?" He knew where the Marion mansion was even if he had never been there. Why would she want him to drop her so far away from her place?

"I'll walk from there."

"Not happening, I am dropping to home." There was no way he would let her walk. Though it was still early, it wasn't safe.

"What are you worried about? No one is going to touch me," she scoffed. "I mean, who wants a wh*ore, right?"

Desmond tightened his grip on the steering wheel. He shouldn't have said it. In fact, he shouldn't have even thought about it.

When he crossed the intersection she wanted to get down at, Elsa sighed and leaned against the window pane again. She was mentally exhausted to argue with him at this point.

….

After driving for a while, Desmond suddenly took a different turn.

"Where are you going?" Elsa frowned. He was going in the opposite direction.

"Someone is trailing us." He glanced at the black SUV through the side mirror that was following them for almost ten minutes now.

At first he thought it was nothing since the road was crowded. But when the car continued to follow them even after he took a turn towards Elsa's house, he figured something was wrong.

Elsa also noticed the black SUV that was still behind them. She nervously tightened her grip on the seat belt. "Now what?"

"Now we lose them." He stepped on the gas and drove the car at an average speed of 65 km/hr.

"Desmond, there are so many cars on the road, you need to slow down." She was worried they would hit some other car.

"We can't slow down." He stepped on the gas. "We have to lose them, not allow them to catch us."

When the car jerked, she gasped and placed her hand on his.

Desmond pursed his lips when he noticed how pale her face had turned. She was scared. He wanted to calm her down but he had to focus on getting her somewhere safe first.

He then called Greg to inform him about the chase. He had to keep the backup ready incase things went south.

"Greg, a black SUV is following." He looked at Elsa. "Yes she is with me."

"I am taking her to the safehouse," Desmond added. "When things are under control, let me know."

After hanging up the call, he told Elsa. "Call your brother and tell him you are with me."

Without saying anything, she called Ricardo.

"Ric—"

"Elsa, where are you?" Ricardo inquired. "I heard you were at Fedorov's club. What the hell were you doing there?" He was clearly very pissed.

Before Elsa could answer, Desmond took the phone from her hand. "Ricardo, it's me."

"Desmond?" Ricardo frowned. "Why is Elsa with you?"

"Someone is trailing my car." He ignored his question. "I am taking Elsa to the safe house. I'll forward your number to Greg and he will contact you."

"Take care of my sister." Ricardo wanted to fetch Elsa himself but that wouldn't be a wise choice. It was safer if he let Elsa be with Desmond until the situation is under control.

"You don't have to worry about that." There was no way he would let anything happen to Elsa. She was his intended after all, her safety was his responsibility.

After hanging up the call, he looked at E

lsa. "Don't worry and hold on tight." He stepped on the gas.
