12 What In The Devil's Name...

Kai ran towards the injured boy as fast as he could. His blood boiled and his heart was slowly breaking. He stopped just in time to witness the Paramedics arrive just in time to wheel Jake out of the field. His heart pulsed.

"You know who could have done that though?" Kai heard his coach's words resound behind him but he chose to believe the man was talking to anyone else but him.

As the practitioners wheeled an unconscious Jake out of the sports area, Kai kept his eyes right on them. His chest began to heave hurried beats and he knew he needed to screw the rest of the game right this minute.

He picked up his pace and began to walk out on the swarm of players gathered on that side. But not so fast.

"Hey! Rich kid!"

His coach's call prompted him to halt in his tracks.

"Where are you frickin going? Accidents happen all the time, so what's your goddamn business with him? Huh?"

Kai said nothing. His back view was all the baldy could see and the boy's resistance to turn back around already was beginning to make his coach angry.

"Will you get your slimy ass back here right this minute, Mr. Chase!"

Still Kai said nothing.

"I command you or—"

Kai decided to talk back now. "I have to go now."

"Go where! The game isn't fuckin ended!"

Kai said nothing more but instead resumed his walk. He was well aware that the baldy was gonna freak out some more but that was not as important right now; not as important as Jake.

Zev looked on as Kai's silhouette grew farther and farther away until he disappeared into the same van as the Paramedics. Even though he felt bad for the boy himself, Zev could not shake off the fact that something about Kaiden's behaviour seemed questionable. The fact that he'd easily screwed up his interest for a sport he loved so much just to accompany the wounded boy to the hospital, caused Zev to begin to consider the situation from a different eye entirely.

6.40 P.M.

When Jake attempted to open his eyes, he met with an obstruction. It felt like he had a swollen ice bag pressed onto his lids. The discomfort hurt like hell.

'Wha-

'How am I..'

He tried to look around to figure out why it smelled so bad there. You know, the smells of antiseptics and medicines. He hated being around any of those. As Jake restrictedly sprained his neck to his sides, it soon hit him that he was indeed in the Campus clinic.

He sneered at this.

Wrong.

It was the sight of Kaiden sitting at the far corner of the room, head slumped to the side of the sofa and sleeping undisturbed that caused Jake's brows to knit in together.

What is he doing here?

Jake made a mental note of this as he tried to sit himself up.

Clang!

His mobile dropped with a loud thud that woke Kai up at once. He practically jumped off the couch.

Jake's eyes narrowed at this.

Oopsies!

"Hey, what're you trying to do?" Kai brushed his hair to the back before trotting closer to Jake's bed side.

"Nothing." Jake told him. "Was just trying to sit up."

Kai ignored his scoff.

"Here, let me help you."

"No. Why? It's not like my spine is broken or something."

Kai cut him a stern gaze. The kind that freaked Jake out.

"Wait! Is it? Broken?"

Kai already helped him up, taking care to place the pillows at the perfect angle for him to lean on.

"Thanks, I feel much better." Admitted Jake, "Although I can't say the same for my phone. I'm sorry I startled you when it dropped."

Kai was listening to all he had to say but Jake's beautiful aura was swooning him over. He had never felt this way about anybody before. He kept his gaze on Jake's mouth as his lips moved up and down. His lips looked so lush, very soft and velvety and all he wanted to do was kiss him.

" … Hum, hello? Did you get my apology just now?"

Kai swiftly snapped out of his reverie and smiled. "I did." He bent over and picked up the device before adding, "Just that it's my device. Not yours."

Jake didn't know if Kai had just said that to make him feel better or feel worse. But right now, he felt like shit from learning of this.

He pouted his mouth as he watched Kai settle his phone in his pants.

"Look Kai, I'm s-"

"Uh-huh. No more sorrys."

Jake's eyes widened at this.

"No more sorrys?" He asked. "Is 'sorrys' even a word that exists?"

"Well," Kai grinned and sat on the bed, "I made it up. Plus aren't you sick of always apologising? You've been doing that since the first time we met."

"Yesterday, Kai. It was yesterday."

Kai shrugged. "Yeah, it was. Also, I'm glad the phone dropped. Too many texts and calls zipping in that I got tired of answering."

Jake chuckled cutely at this.

"Well, you should smile more often."

"Laugh you mean." Jake was smiling through his eyes now.

Kai said nothing else but quickly pulled his arms right on top of Jake's. Their eyes locking so charismatically caused the sparks to begin to fly. It was surely not legal to feel these things. Kai mused.

Jake's eyes held a message in them. One of kindness. Of pureness. Of love?

Kai could not fathom how drawn he was becoming to this boy he'd only just met and something about Jake's eyes revealed that he was not alone in having those butterfly feelings.

His heart was getting super giddy and he was beginning to feel all fluffy on his inside as a result of the staring contest he and Jake were currently pulling off. Just then Jake wet his lower lips with his tongue in a way that made Kai drool some more to have a kiss with him. A wet passionate one would not seem so bad especially with how Jake was tempting him by licking his pink strawberry painted lips like he'd just done. Just as Kai's head began to tilt slightly towards the corner of Jake's mouth, someone busted the glass entrance door wide open.

Kai and Jake startled in their place as the Speaker spoke.

"What in the devil's name is going on here?"
