The night to carry out her mission II

She closed the door quietly behind her while she looked at the room which was illuminated by the moonlight. A breath was released from her mouth. Cordelia's feet moved towards the king sized bed. Everywhere was silent and voiceless. She felt an indescribable feeling within her. She was about to do the thing. Cordelia's hand went to where she hid the knife in her dressing robe and clutched it. Her legs moved forward one after the other towards the bed.

When she reached the foot of the bed,she grabbed the blanket and flipped it off only to find the bed empty. A feeling akin to anger surged within her. The bed was empty. No wonder it was neatly laid. It was obvious no one slept on it yet? Cordelia gritted her teeth as she looked at empty bed before returning the blanket to where it was.

'Maybe he is busy with some work, but what could he be doing in this time of the night?' She thought while looking around the large room. Cordelia went and hid behind a furniture. She stayed there, hoping that sooner or later, the Grand Prince would enter the room and sleep.

Moments later, after what seemed like forever, no sound of the door opening or the footsteps of a moving figure in the room. Cordelia peeped out a little to look at the bed. She stood up from her hiding place and went to the bed again, which was still empty and cool to touch. Cordelia's gaze travelled to the French windows and saw that it was opened. The night wind was blowing the curtains gently. Cordelia sauntered to the French windows and came out to the balcony. Could it be that the Grand Prince wasn't in the Palace? Or he was but the maids forgot to close the windows of his room. Cordelia looked the lush gardens below for a while before going back inside so as not to catch a cold.

Cordelia stomped her foot on the floor while a grim look settled on her face. Her mission could not be accomplished tonight because who she wanted to kill was not in bed.

A pair of footsteps stopped at the front of the doors. Cordelia heard the footsteps moving closer. Cordelia's heart flipped. That must be one of the guards.

Quickly, Cordelia's eyes darted around the bedroom until they found another entrance. Cordelia quickly ran to the room which happened to be the Grand Prince's bathroom. Squinting her eyes in the dark, she saw something that looked like a deep round hole and she assumed that it must be a tub. A bathtub. Without much ado, Cordelia sneakily went into the tub and hid herself under the waters.

She moved so close to the walls as if trying to penetrate into it. Whereas, she was just trying to get herself from being seen. The guard raised the firelamp about the room, trying to find where that sound sound came from. He could see the bed untouched and there wasn't any weird changes to the room. He walked further to the bathroom and checked but found nothing. He even inspected the places last time before getting out.

When Cordelia heard the footsteps facing until it completely disappeared. She rose out of the water and started to breathe heavily due to lack of oxygen for a few moments. After her breathing returned to normal, Cordelia got out of the tub soaking wet. She squeezed her dressing robe and nightdress dry before sneaking out of the bathroom. She peeped out to find the room empty once again. She walked out carefully and waited before she opened so as to watch out for the guard. He might still be outside.

Cordelia opened one of the doors and checked for any guard but luckily, no one was outside.

She stepped out and closed the door, going back to her room from the hallway she came from, still watching out for night watchmen and guards.

When Cordelia got to her room, she changed out of her wet clothes and wore another one. She rubbed her hair dry and went to her bed and slipped under the blanket to wade off the cold. Cordelia stayed awake till dawn whilst grumbling that her mission failed.

...

The next morning, The maids came to assist Cordelia to dress up for the day. Cordelia sauntered down to the dining room with a straight face.

"Good morning, Delia", Sylvester greeted as she got to the dining room.

Cordelia glared as she saw his face. She wanted his dead body to say good morning to her but here he was again. Alive and breathing. She felt mad at herself. She felt mad at him for being alive. Forget help, she wanted him dead at all cost.

"Good... morning, Your Royal Highness", Cordelia greeted back with a stiff smile.
