The Pain Of Rain

A sharp ripping feeling tore through his leg as he took each step forward, one leg at a time in a quick pace. His attempt to fight the rain was proving to be futile as the cold beads of water rolled down his neck, into his jacket and across his back.

He'd been walking for miles, his slow decent home became slower as his thighs burned, he stumbled over a small bump on the pavement but continued forward. "I knew I should've worn a coat he thought in disappointment." His jacket began to feel heavy as the rain filled its pockets, his hands grew from cold to numb.

"Almost there, almost there," he told himself throughout the whole journey. He left his headphones at home earlier so all he had to listen to was the cars that drove past the large potholes full of water and the sound of tapping that hit the puddles on the ground. His jeans soaked up the moister and started to drip water like a leaf. His white top was like a used sponge, it stuck to his torso like glue.

Sweat spun around his body, he could smell the greasy aroma he expelled. His body began to stiffen as he continued to lunge forward, his hair plastered to his forehead along with his sweat, rain covered the lenses of his glasses. Past the street lamps and up the hill, The intense pressure pushed into his shins as he climbed the ground forwards and upwards.

A car drove up from behind him and parked up nearby, it horned twice and the boy paused and turned. The driver rolled down the window, inside the vehicle was a married couple, middle aged.

The boy leaned his head closer to hear what they where asking. "Excuse me, do you happen to know where nursery road is?" The air was filled with so many different noises that it was hard to distinguish what the man was saying. "Um sorry?" The boy asked in bewilderment, the woman asked louder, "do you happen to know where nursery road is!?" The boy automatically knew where they wanted to go and how to get there, he opened his mouth but no words came out, he continued to stare into their eyes as he struggled his words, he tried and tried yet his voice box refused to give way.

His brain attempted to shut him down, he stuttered but ultimately, he gave up. "S-Sorry no." He finally answered. The driver apologised for using the boys time and drove away. The boy turned back to the pavement, closed his eyes for a brief moment before sucking in his breath and then proceed on to the path that led home. With each step he groaned, almost crying as he felt the pain of every limb. He was so close to get where he needed to go and yet he felt so hopeless, he never before felt so far away from his own world. He felt alone.

He’s having a rough time, bless him.
