The Fool Doth Think He is Wise

"But the wise man knows himself to be a fool."

•••

"Your room is... quaint."

Hayley rolled her eyes for the nth time. In fact, she'd rolled them so much she felt like she was losing her eyesight. "Quaint is not how you wanna describe a girl's room, Kol."

"If the shoe fits, little lady." A casual shrug was Kol's reply. His tall frame did look out of place in the midst of light pinks and purples, one of Sheila's latest endeavors to spruce up the bedrooms.

It had been a week since Kol had kidnapped her and he'd made good on his promise. He'd followed her literally everywhere, forcing her to make excuses about who he was. Thank god he couldn't follow her into school.

"So, what's next on the agenda, little lady?"

"Will you stop calling me that?!" The witch'd had enough of that pet name. She'd heard it a thousand times too many that week.

"Relax, darling." Kol lunged back on her desk chair. "Don't feel annoyed yet, little lady, I've only just begun."

"Ugh!" Hayley started banging her head against her door.

Kol stood up, chuckling and placed his hand between her head and the door. "Who told you to bind our lives together? Now I'm obliged to watch my other half, quite literally... little lady." Hayley's forehead hit his hand the next time she wanted to hit herself into unconsciousness.

"I could give you the mother of all headaches, Kol Mikaelson." She threatened.

Kol leaned down, the same annoying smirk dancing on his lips. "And I'd enjoy it, darling."

"Ugh." Hayley moved to her desk, picking up a bag. "You're impossible."

"Thank you."

Hayley pushed him aside to open the door and walked out. "Come on, darling. We have a busy day ahead of us."

".."

"What are we even doing here?" Kol had complained the whole way to Whitmore and was now carefully eyeing the sorority house before him. For once, he was not eager to follow his little witch.

Running up the stairs, Hayley turned around, a mocking smirk on her lips as she looked down on him. "Oh, darling," she mocked his accent. "Not so intent on following me anymore? We're just here to have some fun."

Kol's perfect brows arched. "Your idea of fun is being squeezed in a room full of horny students? I'm a bit disappointed, little lady." Hayley swore she would make him eat that nickname one day.

"And I didn't the big bad vampire would be beaten by a bunch of kids." Hayley smiled sweetly at him before she entered the raging party. "Don't follow me then."

Once inside, with Kol obviously right behind her, Hayley looked around for her 'date'.

"Hayley, hey!" She felt a brief touch on her shoulder and turned around to see Daniel smiling down at her. "I'm glad you could make it this time!"

Hayley frowned at Kol who had removed Daniel's hand but sent a small smile Daniel's way. "You know me, I'm a busy girl. Can't wait to meet your friends, though."

"Would you excuse us for just a moment?" The tall vampire next to her didn't leave Daniel any choice as he dragged Hayley away by her waist. "What's going on, little lady?" He asked when they were in a more remote corner of the huge house. "Why did you bring me to a party full of werewolves? I don't want to hurt your feelings but... werewolf bites won't kill me."

Hayley rolled her eyes. "Who said I want to kill you?"

"You. Multiple times. On multiple occasions."

"Ugh, fine, shut up." Hayley groaned. "This is not what it's about. I'm doing this for your family so shut up and follow my lead." She lightly tapped his chest and went back to the party. When she passed by the drinks station, she brought out a small vial she'd prepared at home with Kol hovering over her and put it in all the drink containers.

One pack down.

The rest of the night went without a hitch even though Hayley thought Daniel and his pack would've sniffed out Kol by now. After all, one of their gifts as werewolves would be to sniff out vampires but maybe it didn't work on Originals.

Her mission done, Hayley decided 'fuck it' and went on the dance floor to let out some steam. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling of having her kind nearby, letting loose. Merely a few minutes after she'd been on the dance floor, she felt large hands cup at her waist, guiding her movements as the guy behind her pulled her flush against his front. She'd known Kol for only a week but she'd recognize his sent anywhere by now.

They were so in sync it was insane. Letting all the problems aside, they danced together, so close that it soon became a bit... steamy. Kol bent down to her ear when she kept subtly grinding on him, his breath tickling her neck. "This is a dangerous game, little lady." His hand spread on the low of her stomach, quite literally giving her butterflies.

Hayley didn't stop though, she kept dancing with a playful look thrown at him. "Can't handle it, darling?" Before she could even think further, she was whisked into one of the rooms. In her peripheral vision, the room looked simple and clean.

"I'm afraid you're the one who wouldn't be able to handle it." Kol whispered, his nose on her neck as he breathed her in.

Hayley felt a shiver down her spine. She pulled at Kol's hair and met his hungry gaze. "You don't know what I'm capable of."

Instead of being hostile like she'd expected him to, a small genuine smile teased Kol's lips. "Good." Before his lips crashed down on hers. The kiss demanding and unforgiving.

Kol pulled her up the desk and settled between her hips as they continued kissing. They explored each other's mouths as if it was the last time they'd ever get to kiss someone. Hayley gasped for air, their foreheads resting against each other. "Wow..."

"Wow indeed.." Kol's fingers were on her inner thighs, driving her crazy. "What I would do to have you."

Hayley arched her brows. "What do you think we're doing now, Kol? Playing Lego?"

Kol huffed out a laugh. "That's not it. I'm leaving town tomorrow little lady," he dropped on her. "And even though I would love to know how compatible we are under the sheets, I'm gentleman enough not to take you and leave you the next day."

Hayley's legs pulled him even closer to her, feeling just how happy he was to be in their position. "I'm not asking for a proposal, darling. Just go with the flow."

Kol's eyes were on her face, pensive before he kissed her again. This time, slower. Slower but deadlier, confusing Hayley's feelings. She just wanted to scratch an itch, she couldn't afford to demand more from one of the Originals. Hayley pulled Kol down and went for a more passionate kiss, one that etched deep into Kol's mind.

Their steamy journey led them to the bed and Hayley's world exploded.

Unlike his stubborn personality, Kol in bed was infinite gentleness. Her needs came before his and boy did he know how to use that annoying tongue.

They went on for the whole night. One could marvel at vampires and werewolves' stamina.

".."

The next morning, Kol was long gone before Hayley woke up.

Despite what she'd said, she couldn't help her chest tightening at the cold space on the other side of bed.

Looking at the ceiling, Hayley thought back to her first day in this world years ago. It felt like it was eons ago with all that had happened. She'd promised herself to stay alive and live life to the fullest so she didn't regret one bit of what happened the night before.

Her eyes found the clock and she was stunned to see a paper next to it. She recognized Kol's penmanship at one glance. Controlled but wild.

'Little lady,

You gave me your virginity last night and in my time, that would've made us husband and wife.'

Hayley laughed at his ridiculous statement. Warmth filled her chest as she continued reading.

'You gave me a valuable gift

and I will honor it.

I have much to do before I come back to you

but until then, know that you have my whole family's respect.

We will see you soon, darling,

Your nightmare,

Kol.'
