Leaving his empire to his father he went to apply for discipleship to the closest sect he could find. Sadly as luck would have it, it was a demonic sect. He was given a general qi sensing technique and sensed qi on his third try. But he acted talentless in front of the Demonic sect recruiters to find a chance to escape.

They still took him in as a medicine disciple to sometimes use in experiments or for chores.

This life he was still quite lucky. While he was thinking how to escape, their group was attacked by righteous cultivators. He showed them his talent and the Heaven's Sword Sect took him in out of charitable feelings. He was certainly talented. Yet his heart was not on the sword. So he chose his own path.
