Resumption day

In a shanty town on the outskirts of Lagos mainland, a portable parlor with a TV hanging on the wall, a guest room, and seven bedrooms upstairs could be seen. Inside one of the rooms, adorned with different kinds of designs, a boy was sleeping on the bed, his face conveying different expressions as he dreamed.

Suddenly, a woman in her early forties entered the room and called out the boy's name: "Erick, Erick!"

"Mom?" the boy murmured as he opened his eyes.

"Have you made up your mind about attending the academy?" the woman asked.

Erick opened his eyes once more, "Yes, Mom. I'm not changing my mind," he said.

"Good," the woman replied. "Now get ready, you only have 30 minutes to get ready. This will be your new residence soon."

Erick descended the stairs with his backpack, dressed in black pants and a top. Mrs. Thomas called out to him from the dinner table. "Come here dear," Mrs. Thomas gestured to him. "Mom, I don't feel like eating," Erick responded. "You have to eat something, the place is far away," Mrs. Thomas said. Erick seated himself at the dinner table, picked up a snack, and started munching on it. After he had finished his meal and received prayer and advice from Mrs. Thomas, Erick was ready to go. He stopped at a road junction and said to a lady passing by, "I'm going to Ikoyi Island - just get across to the other side of the road and you'll see a cab." He thanked her and crossed the road, getting into a cab that drove him to the destination. The roads they passed through varied in quality, from good to bad, until they eventually arrived at Ikoyi Island with a smooth ride.
