Title Bearers

This is a story about the Title Bearers, people or more specifically, players of the game "GK". God Killing is about successfully killing the God of the world in the game without killing any players. Once you do, you will be killed by the God and be banned from the game for 3 weeks and your progress will restart. Of course, the one who got killed will be treated in the same manner. The God is hidden among the millions and trillions of lifeform living in the world created by the sheer will of their mind. When the players enter the game, they will immediately forget who they were or what there mission is. The setting will be influenced by the player's deepest desire, traumatic memories and how they see or want the world to be. In the real world, the progress of the Title Bearers are being aired live for everyone to see. In which case, the viewers get to vote for the most popular Title Bearer weekly. The one with the most vote will be given hints by way of visions. At the end, the one who succeeds will get to meet the developer of the game who played the God. The most important thing is that the winner can ask or wish for one thing from the developer whose identity is kept hidden. Of course, as long as it is possible.

Chapter 9: God Killing

It was August 28, 2023. The plasma monitors hanging on highrise buildings displayed a live feedback of the ongoings of the game God Killing. All around the country, people were monitoring their gadgets for the clock to strike 2:00 pm.

"And finally, it's the time that we have all been waiting for!" the host announced.

Loud cheers were heard in the cinema, in the subscribers homes, in the offices and at schools.

"Hey, are you nervous about who are the players behind each title bearer?" several students crowded at the rooftop of the school, each to their own smartphones.

"Will they reveal who the God is pretending to be?" an office worker lounging at the cafeteria curiously asked his colleagues for their opinion.

"By the way, who will you vote for? We must help them remember immediately so that they can search for the God of the world. Some of the players are already too engrossed in their new life." gamers chatted in their computers, a little disappointed by the slow progress of the game.

"Let's make the game more chaotic! Let's support our male god!" a group of fans have already created their own fan base.

Some players were having panic attacks, holding their heads tight, headphones on full volume on their ears, hands tapping on the armrest, walking to and fro from a place to another.

They were instructed to wait at the backstage but they were all nervous about what embarrassing things they could have committed while they could not remember their real self in the game.

"Ugh! I'm getting the jitters. I hope none of my secrets were spilled." Delu hugged herself, trying to stop her trembling body from being too obvious at shaking. Her heart had been rather active since the game reveals far too much personal data about their life.

"I'm excited to see what I turned out to be in the game, don't you guys think that it's like reincarnation in itself?" Yvelmor asked excitedly to Delu who can't seem to hear what she had been saying because of nervousness. What everyone didn't notice is the slight smile Yve hid with her hands while pretending to be the curious and adventure type. [Ah, I love acting so much!] she said in her head.

"I wish I can remember things from the game but it seems that they were blocked once we went offline." Ragens noted as he checked his watch for the 5th time.

"Whatever, I joined this game to know how is my mental and emotional health is." Doctor Dechat whispered to himself.

"Hey Karne, last time I checked we're in a relationship right? Even if it's just in a game, I'll castrate you if you started a relationship with someone else!" Delu threatened.

"Don't worry, Delu. I just hope you're not bossing me around like always." Karne answered, [ I just wanted to see my sister's face again. Overtime, it made me forget her so this chance is once in a lifetime.]

Nabyuk on the other hand, stick herself in the furthest, most deserted part of the room. She was hoping that nobody would talk to her and be over with the formalities already.

On stage, the host greeted the audience. He wore a white GK t-shirt, loose and comfortable. "For this week we will do a reveal on 7 Title Bearers. If you thought they look exactly in real life and in the game, then you are correct."

A game music slightly played in the background, "presenting the Mortal Author!"

Ragens walked to the stage, greeting the camera with a slight bow before proceeding to his assigned sit. He is in formal attire: tuxedo, slack and a watch around his arm. Then, the screen flashed images of his real life events and in the game events.

Continuing, "Ragens Athor, 18 years old. Also the only son of the late Chairman of Athor Corps. His occupation in the game is the Mortal Author. An author is a player who has never killed other players and they have never been killed by other players or the by the NPC's. His restriction is the condition of losing his memory every after 24 hours."

RocketScience: Hey! isn't this bad for our male god?

SheepSkin: I agree! How can we support him if he forgets the hints every after 24 hours?

+Studio+

"I saw that! I heard the supporters of the Mortal Author is in a dilemma. Don't worry, the hints provided by the system will not be forgotten." the host pitched in.

SheepSkin: Is the host a member of the forum of our male god or is he just a plant?

LiverBile: I second the motion!

HeartAttack: Are we being spied on?

The host frowned for a moment before returning to his usual expression while thinking, [ I'm just doing my job. Bless me, I don't want to be manhunted by some crazy fans.]

"Next in line is the Title Bearer of Wisdom!"

Doctor Dechat walked to the stage, black hair falling down like a waterfall up to her waist. She only wore a lab gown and casual outfits inside. She smirked at the camera, coolly brushing her hair aside and turning back on her heels.

"The revelation of the day! Doctor Dechat is actually a woman in real life. As a Title Bearer, she was killed twice by other players but she has never killed anyone yet. Her restriction in the game is excessive parental love. She will not be able to say no to her adoptive children no matter what outrageous request or demand they have." the host flashed several clips of Doctor Dechat being a worrywart father figure.

Doctor Dechat didn't seem that surprised thinking, [What a fantastic function, the system actually found out about me hoping for a child even if it's by adoption. The problem of liking the same gender is not being able to have children of your own blood.] *sigh*

+Floating Villa+

Floating Villa is a villa built by the sea where there is no frequent tsunami attack and it is situated at a secluded island. Doctor Dechat and her marriage partner, Arianee didn't want to be disturbed by the outside world so they lived and worked in that island resort they set-up.

Meanwhile, Arianee watched the Character reveal with tears falling from her blue eyes. Arianee sat on a bar in the island, blond hair tied up in a ponytail, wooden slippers under her feet and a casual undershirt paired with jogging pants. She was watching GK Character Reveal on the TV while lazily sipping an iced mulberry wine. [I'm sorry De, I can't even give you a child when I know it's what your research has been all about.]

Then she exited the bar, walking where the water and land intersect. Arianee is feeling morose, trying to figure out how to help her wife. And that's when the idea came to her.

Arianee ran to the villa and dialled a number, "hello, I would like to speak with Sanus please."

The voice said, "speak."

[She's always the same no matter how many times had passed.]

Arianee took a deep breath, "I heard that your project in college has been successful. I wonder if De and I could also try it out?"

The line is quite for a moment so Arianee gulped and then came the answer, "sure, why not. But you have to do me a favor first."

"It's not something illegal or dangerous, is it?" Arianee became wary since she knew the person at the end of the line is kind of scary sometimes: both in her jobs and to everyone else. She likes to play with people's feelings or test them for how many times they cannot count.

The voice laughed, "don't worry. I just want you to participate in GK as the upcoming villain. Since you're an actress, I'll let you keep your memories in and out of the game. How's that for a deal, huh?"

"Acting is good, and I'll be able to stalk De so I'll accept. Thank you, Sanus."

"You better not tell anyone that I'm the god of the world, Arianee. I'll be watching you."

Arianee shivered, "I still don't understand how Ziana can get along with her. That massacre is still fresh in mind, ugh!"

"Moving on are the Title Bearers of Fire and Ice." The host shouted excitedly.

Denri and Karne walked together, Denri clinging on Karne's arm. Karne winked at the camera but Denri did nothing save waving an eaten lollipop as if to say goodbye with her left hand.

" Karne Sicher and Denri Crown is a well known campus couple at their college. In the game, Karne's restriction is having a non-girlfriend keep on pestering him to do things that always put them in danger. Denri Crown on the other hand, had a crush on a womanizer whom she had to babysit as a security personnel instead of managing ES Forces. "

Denri glared at Karne who thought, [no, I don't want to be the bottom in this relationship!]

+University+

"Hey guys, did you see Karne in the game?" A male student asked to everyone in the classroom who were busy looking at their phones.

"Yes, he mistakenly thought Denri wanted to bring him to a date!" Another guy interjected, imitating Karne's lines in the game, "it can only be a date!...pfffhahaha!"

"Nah! I think I'm more interested to that mysterious girl who kept on sleeping for like, all the time?" A female student showed a screenshot of Karne who did a princess carry on Yve, sleeping like log under the rain.

A bunch of girls gathered around the one showing a bunch of screenshots about Yve staring at Ragens who fell on top of a thorny bush, when Ragens put a headphone on her ear and when Ragens first saw Yve sleeping near the fountain.

A male student agreed, "Now that I notice it, she certainly slept for like the whole duration of the game?"

"Characters like her are bound to be overpowered or very smart, let's see how she is in reality," the female student who collected Yve's screenshots suggested.

To the surprise of the host, a hooded figure snatched the microphone from him. Then the hooded figure revealed herself. It was Yvelmor. She was in all black: black shirt, black pants, black shades.

"I hope you are watching me mother. I'm sorry for stealing your account and running away from home. Oh, I also took another one just in case the one I'm using broke." Yvelmor ever so cheerfully admitted.

Everyone in the crew is aghast at this new development, not knowing whether to kick the person out or just let her speak her mind. Even the other players looked at her in amazement.

But Yve wasn't done yet, "hello everyone, I think you are well aware of this face already but I'm not her, she's my mother. You know the founder of Alpha Group, Sanus. I think she got the wrong name in the end because she's not sane most of the time."

Now, the crew is in a panic because the one holding the mic was the daughter of their boss, and the one being talked about was their boss. The director felt like dying so much that he fainted and was carried away with a stretcher. The players on the other hand followed the movements in the studio with intrigue burning in their eyes.

"Remember my name, it's Yvelmor. Here's a little trivia for you. My mother told me that when she was in the first three years of her college life, she can't even picture her ideal partner in her mind. As a result, she always looked in the mirror thinking that that face was the face of her lover. When she felt that it wasn't enough, she made a clone and that was me. She named the clone Yvelmor as a reminder. What do you think does that mean?"

"This is a national joke," the camera man told himself, ready to loose his head for shooting the entire thing.

Everyone in the country who watched the biggest revelation yet, unfold, were swept away into Yve's pace: they were trying to solve the puzzle.

+University+

"Actually, it's very easy. You just rearrange the letters and you'll end up with..." Yvelmor's fan reasoned, trying to keep the suspense.

The other students still couldn't get what their classmate is hinting at, "ah... um...the.. answer is- uh, ugh! What the heck is it!?"

"I think I get it!" a male student tried to recall.

"Vylemor! the name of her twin." a female student followed.

Yvelmor's fan shook her head, "Nuh, huh."

The students frowned at her, " just spill it already! Come on Signi, tell us."

"Yvelmor is still not revealing it, why would I be the first one to do so? Let's respect her decision." Signi reminded her classmates. "Besides, her mother is an alumni of our school. We shouldn't talk about their private life behind their back, okay?" she continued.

" Alright, madam president!" everyone said in unison.

+Studio+

Delu peeked at what Yve was doing, [I can still salvage this if I do things right.]

Delu looked around in the backstage and saw a thick, red curtain in a box. [*sigh* I don't really want to do this but... I also don't want to be on bad terms with Yve's mom.]

+Floating Villa+

"Is that kid really Sanus' clone. If so, then she's really that good! Which means, De and I have a bigger chance of having a baby."

I was relaxing, watching GK Character Reveal when that Sanus-looking child just went and snatched the mic from that poor host. When she begun confessing about her misdeeds live, I thought, [this kid behaves just as irrationally as Sanus.]

But when she begun revealing even more sensitive informations, I dialled a call, "Ziana, did you see the GK Character Reveal?"

But the one with the most tension is the part when Yvelmor began to reveal the meaning behind her name, a red curtain ran towards Yvelmor and took her away.

"Yes, Sanus is really mad this time. I think she's gonna......." *toot* *toot* *toot* Arianee's call to Ziana was cut.

That was when everything went black. It is only when morning came that Arianee realized, [a nationwide brown out occured.]

" I hope Ziana can comfort Sanus more, I don't want to suffer under her whims when she's angry." Arianee told to herself.
