Road to the bridge

right now I'm sitting in training ground seven, on one of the three logs as a light breeze blew by, making a few leaves fall.

hearing footsteps I turn my gaze to the newcomers only to see sasuke, Naruto, and sakura, everyone is wearing jounin vests in standard jounin outfits.

"so team 7 is back together huh?" says naruto as he folds his arms with a slight smirk on his face.

"it's been a long time, wonder how much everyone has grown" added sakura while taking out her gloves and putting them on.

sasuke remained silent but I could see a smile tugging at his lips.

suddenly kakashi appeared in front of us holding a scroll, surprisingly his book was missing.

"Alright team, we have a mission, we are supposed to meet one of Sasori's contacts disguised as him and get information, a secondary objective is to capture the contact if possible" he relayed the information in a serious tone.

I guess It's time...maybe I can even stop the war if I manage to take out Kabuto.

"we will be heading out in an hour, get ready" He finished reporting.

"do we know the contact's name? and is the information reliable?" asked Sasuke with hands in his pockets.

"The information is reliable it came from one of Jiraya-sama's informants, but the name is unknown, go and pack, meet at the gate" with that last order we went our separate ways, I headed straight to the gate since I always have supplies in my inventory.

on the way there I start thinking about what to do about the situation, I don't think I can kill Orochimaru, I don't know what he's been doing for the past two years.

letting out a sigh, look over at the new genin team that is chasing a cat...

ignoring their torture I take out my cigarette and light it with lightning manipulation, lacing my lungs with chakra so that it doesn't have any negative effect on me I inhale enjoying the sensation before letting it out.

"since when do you smoke?" asked a voice to my right, looking over I see my Lazy friend.

"hey, Shikamaru, haven't seen you in a while," I say as I turn to him, seems like he's not alone, Choji and Ino are with him too.

"well, there's a face we haven't seen in a while," remarked Ino, looking me up and down, while Choji greets me in his own way...by giving me a chip.

we talk for a while, I get to tease Ino and Shikamaru about their relationship before I had to leave.

arriving at the gate, I see that my team is already there...even Kakashi is already there.

"Alright, let's head out, we are going to be there in a few days, we will be traveling by tree hopping" our sensei informed us and we departed shortly after.

as the trees flew by, the night slowly came, and We had to set up a camp.

after 5 minutes and 8 clones later, the camp was ready, and I was sitting in front of the fire with sasuke sitting on the other side.

"So when are you planning to do it?" I ask, my eyes remaining on the flame in front of me.

"...I still need to get stronger...once I think I'm ready ill go after him" he responded with an indifferent voice.

"I'll come with you, his partner may have lost his sword but he's still dangerous, I'll hold him off while you deal with your brother," I say and throw another stick in the fire that lets out a crackle.

"...ill be counting on you then, I'll retire for the night" leaving the conversation at that he stood up and went inside his tent.

I remain silent as I materialize a kunai out of my red energy and lunch it in the trees, where a sound of something hitting the ground is heard.

standing up, I walk over to see a hooded figure wearing a blank mask, blood was pooling around him as he lay there motionless.

if I take off the mask now then your body will burn...that's what seals are for.

drawing a barrier that restrains any use of mana inside its area, I activate it, the only downside to this is that it takes longer and it even works on me, so can't use it in a battle.

walking inside the barrier, I feel chakra leaving my body, not reinforcing it anymore, but I pay no heed to it.

walking up the body I take the mask off only to see a pale face...Sai.

....holy crap I killed Sai, what now? I start to panic a little and then I remember...he doesn't matter.

Calming down I just shrug and seal the body to present to the Hokage when we get back to the village.

going back to the camp I see kakashi looking at the fire.

"did you deal with it?" he asked, looking at me.

"yes" I respond simply, going to sit on the other side of the campfire, I take out another cigarette and light it using the fire in front of me.

"so you started smoking," he remarked with a sigh.

"you said no drinking, you didn't say anything about smoking" I retort with a shrug.

"so, how's my daughter in law," he asked with an eye smile.

"ugh"
