1 Chapter One: The Three Roses

If you had told me that an ancient demon would possess me one day, I would've laughed in your face and called you crazy. If you had told me this demon had a thing for pretty women, I would've asked you where the hell he was. It turns out that he had been in my backyard all along.

You see, three witches decided to dance out there in the woods, naked as the day God or Satan or whoever the hell they worship made them. I didn't stop them. Are you kidding me?! One was old and I ignored her for the most part. The other two must've been her young college friends because they had it all. The only thing that creeped me out was the skull of a goat they placed in a bed of black roses. I knew enough about devil worshipers to recognize their idol, but this goat still had moving ocher eyes. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what I saw. It made no sense; no muscles or tissue held the eyes in place.

Well, now that I know about the spiritual plane, a demon's energy explains everything.

Ever since the moon turned crimson last week, people have been going insane. Drought, floods, famine, and plague brought the country to its knees. I had to move into the wilds of the north to escape the turmoil of the government and the people that thought they could depend on it.

What stood between me and death was the peaceful image of evergreens rising towards the clear night sky, bathed in the blood of the moon. And naked witches. I can't lie to you. Or can I? How do you know that I haven't gone insane? Maybe I can convince you to stay and hear me out. The demon doesn't care either way. He won't tell me his name so I can't introduce you. I just had to give him one. Let's call him Jopp.
