Smithing

The first thing she felt was the heat as she opened the door, whereas her mother was in a room with papers gems and some comfy furniture, this was defiantly more close to a traditional blacksmith, anvil, forge, tools ect. sat in a bowl by the door were some white gems, and stood at the anvil was her dad hammering until he noticed her and stopped,

"problem little one? everything ok?" he asked a little concerned, this was her father a hard working honest man named Deln,

Duw smiled and explained she wanted to learn from him, and he was a little taken aback,

"you sure? I thought you'd want to learn from your mother, not that I am unhappy hearing how you want to learn from me but-" Duw laughed,

"I am learning from mum as well, but I also want to learn from you, Oh you're burned!"

he looked at his hands to see the burns, "ha this is nothing, besides I have the gems for healing when I'm done it's nothing to worry over,"

"but doesn't it affect your hands? make them less sensitive?" Duw touches her fathers arm and heals him, he looks at his hands for a moment before realizing,

"actually now that you mention it, it does, but you get used to it," he explained,

Duw's mind worked remembering the road and the man who had been hit, since they could heal very easily people tended to ignore injuries even when they lost their adolescents healing abilities there were plenty of children, and adults with cores around.

She looked around the house for a while, she remembered that people on earth working with heat used to wear gloves but found nothing, it made sense though with the way these people thought protective gear was useless in situations like this.

After her fruitless search she returned to the workshop and began learning from her father, from what he showed her the strange crystal like material things were made of reacted like metal, maybe it was a form of metal after all?

the swords that he made were simple short-swords, claymores and bastard swords, mainly used by the town hunters to keep the local beast population in check, when she asked why he made so many he pointed out that the quality of the local ore was low and the weapons would break after a while, so he needed to make a lot, he opened a metal closet and showed her a pile of broken and mangled weapons, apparently these ones were used several times and had broken, they could only be used for a short time and so he made many for replacements during missions, how rubbish was this ore?

He went on to explain he hadn't used actual ore for a long time as he simply melted down the broken stuff and re-forged it, that was why he was busy a lot since the hunters broke several weapons a trip, he then moved on to showing her how to forge and melt down metal, refine ore ect. standard blacksmithing, but as it went on she noticed a few things from what her father showed her and the books he provided, they had no knowledge of alloys at all, they simply forged the ore into weapons when she asked about it he didn't really understand about alloys but explained that metal was strengthened with enchantments, and the best weapons were made as shells for containing the liquid metal core and the enchantment would support the weapon from breaking, her understanding of the world grew as she learned, they hadn't discovered alloys because there was no need for them and so the drive to find or make something better was absent, she spent the next six months studding under her parents and Silvia and an idea formed in her mind, she was going to try an experiment and make a weapon that would enable her parents to better themselves if it worked.
