268 268— Han Jingse Makes A Scene (2)

Tong Zhian froze, crying bitterly in his heart, before turning to face them. Gao Tinghua had gotten hold of Han Jingse's hands and flung them so hard that she staggered.

"Where are you going?"

Thinking quickly, Tong Zhian replied, "I wanted to go and get security."

Gao Tinghua looked at his expression that showed he was obviously lying, but ultimately didn't pursue it. "Just get out and don't come in until I say so."

Happy to have been granted amnesty, Tong Zhian nodded and flew out of the office with the speed of light.

Turning his attention back to Han Jingse, his expression became frosty, "If you don't stop behaving like a market shrew this instant, I'll have you thrown out immediately."

Han Jingse sat down on the second chair in the office, but she was anything but calm. "I just want to know why. We've been engaged for many years, and we were finally moving towards getting the wedding done. Why would you suddenly break up with me?

"I endured all the unsavoury rumors about you. I pretended not to know that you have been cheating on me all these while. What else did you want?

"I wasn't hiding it from you in the first place." He truly didn't care if she knew or not at the time. He was just doing what he liked. Both of them didn't love each other, so he didn't feel guilty. Not to mention, they were not married either.

Even now, he was just using her secret as an excuse to break the engagement. Else, he wouldn't have ended the relationship just based on her past. As long as she didn't continue an affair into marriage, he didn't care about her prior private life either.

Han Jingse was totally incredulous. So he was saying he didn't feel the least bit guilty? "You hedonistic son of rich parents!" She lashed out.

Contrary to her expectations, Gao Tinghua gave a short laugh before assuming his emotionless expression again, "Seeing how easily it rolled off your tongue, I'm sure this is what you call me in private, right? I quite like it. But I wonder why you and your family are so anxious to hold on to this hedonistic son."

Han Jingse was flustered for a moment before regaining her bearing, "I loved you, that's why, there's no other reason. I still love you even now."

If she could get him to soften up, it would be for the best. A lot was riding on this marriage that she could not afford to lose.

Gao Tinghua gave a snort of disbelief, "Don't give me that rubbish. Love? Indeed. Do you think I'm unaware of the fact that your mother wants to use me and my family to threaten your grandfather into allowing you people take over the Han corporation?"

"Y-you knew?" Han Jingse asked, shocked.

Gao Tinghua almost rolled his eyes in quite an ungentlemanly fashion, "Oh please. I'd have to have being blind and deaf to not notice all your mother's overt and covert hints. Too bad I don't want to be a stepping stone."

Han Jingse gripped her bag so tightly that her nails left deep imprints on the delicate leather. She felt a sense of defeat wash over her. The feeling of prancing about like a dancing clown in front of this guy left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Trying to salvage the last of her pride, she met his eyes, "Fine, let's say we did plan to borrow your influence a little bit. What was so bad in that? Shouldn't a husband cover for his wife?"

Gao Tinghua wanted to laugh at the first part of her sentence. 'Borrow his influence a bit?' What a joke. If she felt that making the Han family patriarch and first house fight him together was considered borrowing a bit of his influence, then he had nothing to say.

"And why should I allow a bunch of good for nothings borrow my influence? Why should I be the one covering up for your family's incompetence and paying for the consequences of your misplaced ambitions?

His words were so piercing that Han Jingse's eyes turned red. So this was what he thought about her family? Granted, she didn't love him, but she definitely respected his family. She would never say such about them.

Obviously, she had forgotten the fact that there was nothing of such to say about his family in the first place. Or rather, nothing that she knew about.

"Is that why I had to receive this news from your mother? Why did you not have the decency to tell me yourself?"

Gao Tinghua flashed one of those irritating smiles of his at her again, "Actually no. It was just that I thought she would say it better than I would have, not to mention paid you handsomely as compensation for my 'hurtful behavior'.

"It was better to save your family's faces by having her come forward, instead of me having to announce that I broke the engagement because I couldn't marry a pretentious golddigger who slept her way and blackmailed her boss to the top."

The blood drained away from Han Jingse's face so fast that she looked like a ghostly apparition. She tried to feign ignorance, but her reflexive action had already given her away, "What do you mean by that?"

Gao Tinghua gave a long-suffering sigh, "You're a smart girl Jingse, don't play dumb with me. You know exactly what I'm talking about. I mean, even I was shocked at your boldness and creative ways. If you had used those moves on me, perhaps we would have even gotten married for a while."

He paused, and the soft sound of someone gnashing their teeth could be heard clearly in the silent space. His words were really ruthless.

Then his voice became colder, "For old times sake, I don't intend to do anything with the evidence I have on hand. But if you cross me or reenact this foolish behavior of yours one more time, I'll make sure you become a trending topic."

This time, Han Jingse shuddered, fear very visible on her face that still resembled a color palette.

Gao Tinghua said with fake concern, "That's why you should have just stayed home and saved your dignity, instead of coming here to drag your family's face through the mud."

Feeling like he had properly gotten his point across to her, he was done with the conversation.

"If you have satisfied your curiosity, then have a safe trip back. I won't see you off."
