225 225 — Han Leifeng's Sister-in-law

Due to the blossoming partnerships that he recently brought to being, Han Leifeng became very busy. He had to go on business trips frequently and was hardly ever at home, or even at the company.

Gradually, his father's wife Liu Zhizhen forgot her fear and began to spread her wings again. This time though, she was very cautious.

Whether she thought it up herself or she had someone advise her was unknown, but the latest method she devised to torture her husband's son was so flawless that no one could pick a fault.

That was why Han Leifeng could not do anything when he suddenly came back from his latest business trip to meet an unfamiliar woman in the house.

She was sitting with her back turned to him, chatting in a soft tone with Liu Zhizhen and Han Zhiyi. Even from the foyer, Han Leifeng could hear their mirthful laughter.

It puzzled him. Everyone in the family, particularly Liu Zhizhen had always been sombre and sad due to the death of the eldest son, so how come they suddenly had the mood to laugh loudly?

Han Zhiyi was still laughing at the funny story the lady was telling when she suddenly saw her brother's tall frame appear before her. The laughter on her lips died instantly and she almost jumped up.

"Yo-young Master, you're here."

At her abnormal behavior, the conversation stopped. Liu Zhizhen looked at him, but contrary to his expectation, she continued smiling as she said, "You're here? That's good, I want to introduce you to someone."

Then turning to the young lady with a smile, she said, "Meixiang, meet Leifeng, my husband's son. Leifeng, say hello to Meixiang, my daughter-in-law."

The lady who was called Meixiang stood up and held out a hand as she softly spoke, "Hello, my name is Bai Meixiang. It's nice to meet you."

With her oval face and spotless skin, she could truly be described as a beauty. It didn't look like she had gotten married before, much less widowed.

Although it was still in the first month, she was wearing a tight fitting black gown with matching jewelry, but it didn't make her look ostentatious at all. Instead, she looked every inch the grieving socialite.

Han Leifeng looked at the lady first, then glanced at Liu Zhizhen with an inscrutable expression. What were they playing at right now? Who was this daughter-in-law that didn't come when her husband died, but chose to come months after? And by the looks of it, she was living here too?

Han Leifeng suddenly felt a headache coming up. No wonder his father's wife had been so quiet lately.

Just when they thought he wasn't going to shake her hand, he took the soft, white hand offered to him perfunctorily and dropped it soon afterwards. He then nodded before turning to leave.

Han Zhiyi immediately followed after him, going to her room instead. After smelling the imaginary gunpowder in the air, she had lost the will to continue chatting.

Liu Zhizhen smiled as she watched him go. She herself wasn't sure what she wanted to achieve by asking her widowed daughter-in-law to come back to the country, but she had come to a point where she would do anything to put obstacles in Han Leifeng's way.

It didn't matter what happened next, she would just enjoy his discomfort. Take for instance, just now. Even though his expression was unreadable, the fact that he couldn't muster one of those annoying faint smiles was enough to make Liu Zhizhen have a renewed appetite for dinner.

She decided to maintain a wait and see attitude first.

If Han Leifeng got too angry and decided to quarrel with a woman, she would make sure the whole circle knew how insufferably arrogant he was to be able to treat his widowed sister-in-law harshly.

If he decided to move out, it would be even better. She would not have to continue enduring his presence in her son's living space.

From another angle, both of them were a handsome man and a beautiful woman. If something managed to happen between them, it wasn't her fault either. It would mean she even did a good deed. If he didn't want to admit it, then she would help her daughter-in-law uphold justice.

But if he decided to admit it, haha! He would become a beast that couldn't even let go of his elder brother's widow.

In short, no matter what happened, it was guaranteed that Han Leifeng would be the one most disgusted, and the thought made her want to cackle.

These thoughts went through her mind very quickly, but nothing showed on her face. Bai Meixiang, who had been looking at Han Leifeng until his back disappeared after a turn of the stairs, finally took back her sight.

"Mother, is that the illegitimate son?"

Liu Zhizhen nodded, "But Meixiang, make sure you're careful not to say that outside. We the first house have to be united. We cannot let outsiders have a handle on us. And at the very least, he's helping to keep our prestige."

Bai Meixiang nodded thoughtfully before saying obediently, "I understand Mother. I was just curious."

Then she paused and said with slight hesitation, "Now that he is back, should I go back to my parents' house? So as not to cause any problems."

Problems? Liu Zhizhen almost wanted to laugh out loud. That's exactly what you're here for — to cause problems!

But she didn't say that out loud. Instead, she affected a sad look and took Bai Meixiang's hand in hers, "Meixiang, please don't say that. You know that since you came back a week ago, you have been accompanying this old lady.

"Because of you, I feel livelier and happier. I no longer wake up from my dreams in tears. If you leave now, what would happen to this old woman?"

By now her eyes had reddened. She only wanted to coax this naive daughter-in-law of hers, but in the end, the truth of her words really saddened her.

She had indeed been waking up from her dreams in tears since Han Zhi died, and only recently did the frequency subside. Of course, it was not because of Bai Meixiang herself, but because she felt she was finally close to taking revenge for her son.

This daughter-in-law that she was barely satisfied with before had now become more pleasing to the eye due to her perceived usefulness.
