Chapter 8

Christy

"You called me out upon the waters, great than all, my feet may fade..." Mum sang as she made the bacon.

I plop on the seat beside John, with my head propping on my palm. I will go check on that house. I must know the really truth, maybe I can find a picture, file something or anything!

"Christine!" Mum's loud called brought me back to earth.

"Yeah?"

"Where is your beret?" She placed the plates of the delicious Bacons on the table.

"Do I have to wear it each time?" I groan before shoving a piece of Bacon in my mouth.

"Yeah." She crossed her arms across her chest.

"But I'm wearing the gown! I don't think I really need that." I stubbornly chew the food unnecessarily.

"Christine Evan we are not going to argue about this, you'll do me a favour to walk those stairs and grab your BERET!" She said sternly.

I slap the spoon on the table, "fine! I'm not the only girl going to church I really don't see why I have to wear a beret." I Mumble loud enough for her to hear.

"I won't have my daughter dress like some wayward teenager!" She called out before walking to the laundry room and slamming the door.

"Great! Now mum is angry how will I convinced her to take me to the amusement park?" John glared at me with a pout on his baby face.

I rolled my eyes, "eat your food baby, don't forget to grab your Bible and if possible 'Jesus'." I did the quotes sign with my fingers.

"You're so rude." He said with no remorse, his words didn't upset me, I was just frustrated and wanted a victim.

"Eat your food or I'll make you!" I snarled, he gulped and look down while nodding.

"Good boy." I said carelessly as I walk to my room.

I pulled my closet open and pick up my black beret.

It looked exactly like the one dad use to wear, that's why I hate berets, I don't like wearing it, mum just won't understand, since he left is been so difficult between us.

I stood in front of my hairdresser while I wore the stuff. I wore it the military way.

The girl that stare back at me was a total different person, red long sleeve gown that stop just below her knee and hair so curly and long that the don't stop moving to her face, eyes so dull that every sparkles in them had disappeared giving way for black instead of the light brown that previously gleam joyfully. Having a beige skin was great but I just have to wear long sleeves and clothes that reman below my knees. Ever since dad died, I feel insecure around people, and I keep my beautiful skin under some long fabric. I doubt people love my skin, is better to remain under those clothes than have people stare for too long and then throw comments that comes hitting hard like it was the incredible Hulk who threw them.

I sigh, I just hate the way my hair were so long it made my face big and ugly, I pulled and forced my hair in a low bun.

I pull myself from the mirror after one last glance, just maybe I'll never fix the relationship I have with people particularly my mother. I feel imperfect.

*******

I was back again to where I stood yesterday, across the street from the old house with roots of plants holding all the walls in captive. For some seconds I thought it had life and it was staring sorrowfully at me with his windows as eyes.

The old lady was no where to be found, perhaps she was gone. I took a deep breath before crossing the street, I needed to clear all doubts.

I stood hands wrapped around my body and shook slightly, the house seem so gigantic now I was close, it stood mightily like some haunted house shattering billions of minister.

I looked at the floor under me, I was stepping on a red upside down cross, and just under it someone wrote in red THEM! I should just back away and get the hell out of here, but my heart was so determine to solve the mystery.

Part of the window was broken, the cottons half hanging on the frame, I could see it from out here, the rails in front of the house had rusted, the paint on the walls were worn out due to sessional rain and lack of care, I placed my hand on the walls under the roots, the blocks were cold. I moved further to the wooden stairs which were so old to the extent of habiting termites, I could see the little holes and insects crawling in them.

I step carefully on it obtaining a little creaking sound.

I stare at the chocolate brown door, that stood cold and dark, like the content behind it.

Beware! Cursed House

I read the words written with dark red paints on the door, I refused to pay heed to that, I need to know.

I twisted the knob with all the courage I had and crack the door opened the long loud creaking sound that erupted made me sink in my shoes.

Come on! You can do this Christy!

I tilted my head high and walked in the house, the old broken chandelier hung on the ceiling trying as had as it could to produce little light that drove away the darkness a little bit.

I walked in the hall eyes scanning the place and senses in alert  finally I came to a stop in front of a broken picture with dust laying on the floor, I pick it up and wiped the dust. It was a family picture, two little identical boys with dusty blond hair stood in between their parents, one was smiley while the other was grinning sheepishly with his hands clutch to his brothers jacket, the woman on their right smiled down at them, she had long dark brown hair that stopped at the middle of her back, she wore a black gown and a diamond ring that fitted her white skin, she was so beautiful. The man on their left had golden blond hair with green eyes, he was grinning at the camera while ruffling the hair of the hyper twin.

As I stare down at the picture a smile creep to my lips. It was so adorable. I drop the picture on the table and continue my way.

The furniture's were covered with white sheet that had turn  gray from the dust. I stopped near the wall with stripes of blood and I frowned.

THEM! That word again! This time it was written with blood.

Stay aware! Beware! They're everywhere watching YOU!

The words continue still with blood, there was blood everywhere on the floor and walls.

God!

I felt a hot breath on the skin of my neck and I gasp. I dare not move, air refuses to come out of my nostrils, it was stuck in my lungs, the breaths continue, my heart started pounding hard against my rib cage, like it had wings all of a sudden and wanted to take flight, a militia of chills march down my spine, making me freeze to the spot, damn me if I move a muscle! I've never been do scared in my entire life, if not for my strong resistance of fear I would've pass out. Without thinking I swung around and DUH! I came face to face with him our faces just inches away.

His glowing gray eyes bore holes into my soul, I was too scared to screamed, my body had grown weak over his stare and the hair on my skin stood in attention. His face was all different, still pale yes, but more exposed, he had cut his hair short making him look like some Japanese anime, it went so well with his elven shape. I was just staring unable to look away it was like hypnotism, I've never seen such an emotionless face yet beautiful and charming. His red lips had a little cut and his left check had one too, the bruises on his cheek seem to be fading, but my mind just have to replay the scene I witnessed the last time.

He shoved me slightly on the wall his eyes still lock on mine, I only stare back with my mouth half open. "What the hell are you doing here?" He growl.

I keep staring not trying to break free from the touch of a boy, what is wrong with me?

"Get out!" He seem to have noticed my cross chain and he back off turning his back on me.

I was back to my skin as soon as he turned around, "no!" I said firmly.

"I want you out of here!" He glared at me with his brows knitted. As long as he keep that distance am okay.

I frown too, "I guess I'll just call the cops and report about the abuse." I pulled out my phone.

He snatched it from my grasp, "what abuse?" He kept his harsh tone.

"I saw everything, I saw him hit you." I said.

His expression only harden, "why did you spy on me for fuck sake?! This is not your life! You don't understand!"

"I do understand, I know you lost your family and you were abused by your foster parents even till now."

"Who told you that?!" He took some few threatening steps towards me.

I started to panic but I did great hiding it, "Maria Teresa."

His expression soften and he sigh, "this is not your business, is not a game, everyone don't live in a castle like you do. Just get out."

"I won't." I stubbornly said.

"You don't know me, why do you care? Mind you life and stop interfering in mine!"

"No! I do care, yeah, I don't know you but you're a human being, you have feelings even though you don't show it, you're important to this world, I just wanna help you."

He chuckled coldly and shook his head, "you can't, I don't think anyone can, is just like that, you can't stop THEM, the own my life."

"Who are you referring to as THEM?"

"You don't understand, and never will."

"Going through abuse is not easy, I know that but you must call the cops!"

"I need them! I've been through 12 fucking Forster homes! All the same! There is no where for me in this planet!"

"Stop saying that, you worth something! I wanna help." I yelled.

The room was filled with silence. He walk to the little table holding the picture in the broken case. He pushed it down, and it broke even more.

"If you really want to help me just leave and don't tell anyone about what you saw." He held the door for me.

I sigh, "think about it. Elie" I walked away leaving him alone in that creepy house.

My questions were still unanswered, I must get response no matter what! I must help him even if he doesn't want my help.
