Chapter 12

By the time Kayla reached her school she was breathing heavily but she didn't stop and kept on walking quickly towards the girl's toilet. She occupied one of the stalls and was resting for a while when she heard two girls enter the toilet. "Hey Lana?" "Yeah?" "Where's Jane? Don't tell me you guys fought again." "No Tiffany. We didn't fight. She's on an errand." "Errand?" "Yeah that's what she calls it." "What sort of?" "You know Parker Williams?" "Yeah. Who doesn't? That boy is mighty fine and so is his friend Cosmos." "Jane has went to flirt with them." "Which one?" "Both I guess. She says that she can date anyone from the two or if given the chance she can even date the two of them at the same time." "Woah. I can't with that girl. Hey, wait a minute. Isn't she already dating someone?" "Yeah but she kept that boy to pay her bills and nothing else. To put in simpler terms she is just using him." "I pity that poor boy." "Yeah me too but what can we do. When life gives you hottie, you shouldn't settle for the ugly." With that, the two girls left and Kayla came outside her stall and she too left.

Kayla walked into her class and quietly sat down but just when Kayla had tried to calm herself Jane walked towards her table with an innocent smile on her face. "Kayla. I'm really sorry. The guys and I didn't mean to leave you yesterday we thought that you had left." Kayla heaved a long sigh and then smiled at her. Kayla pushed her table forward which hit Jane's hip hard. "Oh. I thought you had left but I guess you didn't. Your fault." Kayla stared at Jane until she left for her seat. "K. Chill out will you?" Cosmos approached her but Kayla didn't utter a single word and kept on looking at her phone. After a while Cosmos gave up and left.

During recess and lunch Kayla didn't even glance at Parker and Cosmos and kept on hanging out with Ben, which was honestly pretty fun. After school had ended Kayla was rushing out of her classroom when she met Ben on the way. "Hey Kayla!" "Hey!" "Heading for home?" "Yeah." "Okay then walk with us." "But our places are in opposite direction." "But we can still walk till the gate, right?" "Alrighty then." Kayla walked back towards her home all by herself.

When she reached her home she did her usual chores and went to her room and was about fall asleep when she heard knocks on the front door. She lazily got up and opened the door to find the person she once loved. The person whom she once considered as her one and only superhero but now, he was the person whom she never wanted to see anymore. "How ya been, my dear?" " I'm good but what are you doing here dad?" "Just came to visit my daughter. Isn't that okay?" "I didn't mean it that way. " "I've got some good news for my daughter." "And what's that?" "I'll be staying with you guys until I find a place of my own." "I see." Kayla didn't like that news at all. She left for her room quickly and went back to her sleeping as it was the only time that she loved being alive. The only time where her family wouldn't be able to scold her or at least she wouldn't be able to hear anything.

Kayla was in her room and someone was calling her phone. It was an unknown number but she answered it anyway. "Kayla. It's me. Dad." "Dad?" "Look I have a couple of more months to stay here and after that I'm free to go." "Hmm." Kayla hummed a response. "After I get released the first thing I'll do is finish my work." "Work?" "I'll kill your mom. That damned woman has got married again? I'll kill both your mom and her low life husband." Kayla's younger sister had hit her head and was crying and that sound, was unfortunately heard by her dad. "Is that the filthy disgusting useless man's child?" "Yes." "Throw both his kids away. Why do you have to look after those two brats?" "Hmm." "What the fuck is wrong with you! Can't you fucking give me a response? Are you fucking dumb! I didn't fucking raise you that way! You better talk." Kayla couldn't take it anymore and ended the phone call then and there. Kayla couldn't help but shed tears as this was the first time her dad had called her and she was anticipating that call for months. But all she got for getting excited was a bunch of curse words. She didn't like it at all.

"What the hell!" Kayla woke up. It was all just a dream and she wished that her dad coming back home was also a part of that dream but unfortunately it wasn't. Kayla didn't know what to do so she sneaked out of her house and went towards Cosmos's house. Kayla was about to knock in his door when she heard loud laughter so she peeked through the window to find Jane sitting between Parker and Cosmos. "They're having such a great time. Maybe it's better if I don't butt in and ruin it." Kayla rubbed away her tears and went to smoke at her usual place.

When Kayla reached there she wasn't able to lit a single cigarette because she kept on crying whenever she thought about today. She wanted to die so badly but she couldn't. She wasn't that brave and that made her despise herself even more. "But I'm supposed to feel good especially now that I've completely changed myself and I am no longer like my past self but isn't it still enough?" Kayla said to herself as she kept on brushing away her tears. After a while she was finally able to regain herself so she quickly smoked and left for her home. On her way back, she saw Parker, Cosmos and Jane walking towards her direction so she quickly hid behind some bushes.
