24 Chapter 24 - Honey I... I...

Dr. Akeel, like the other awakeners, had shown symptoms of awakening.

The awakening caused his body, mostly the head, to overheat, that's why he was sweating too much from his forehead.

With the area between his eyebrows twitching and squirming like something was about to get out of there.

In fact, his symptoms were similar to the ones shown by Johana previously except for some minute details.

However, nobody noticed because their attention was attracted by Captain Gill.

When Captain fell on the floor, nobody had the thought to check the other people beside them.

That's why, even though Dr. Akeel spent almost four minutes to fully awaken, none of the people present had noticed him.

Yes, Dr. Akeel exceeded the time record it takes to awaken registered by the base so far.

Only his dream was a little bit different.

In the dream, Dr. Akeel saw himself in the same sitting of reality, the same conference room with everything available except for people.

He was still sitting motionless on the chair unable to move. Around him, invisible energy was swimming back and forth at first, then all of a sudden, as if finally the invisible energy had found its home, it started drilling through Dr. Akeel's body.

Swimming through every corner, not staying for too long in the same body part, like searching for a new apartment, it takes some time to find the most comfortable one.

When the energy ended up in his head, it finally found the most suitable location in his brain and started attracting the rest of the energy.

With more energy settling in the brain, Dr. Akeel felt his thinking became faster and clearer, and his senses more sensitive than ever.

However, that wasn't the most important change, but the feeling of having an extra 'limb' is.

After waking up from the dream, Dr. Akeel came back to his senses, so did the control over his body, and the various sensory information around him.

With his accelerated thinking and the information he heard from the people around him, he quickly realized what was happening.

Ignoring the novelty of this matter, he focused on the extra limb that came out of nowhere.

After energy was integrated into the brain, its nature seemed to change into another type of energy, to a type of energy he could move however he likes with a little bit of focus.

Dr. Akeel instinctively felt like he could use this energy just like a hand, he could move the thing he wanted to move.

With nobody looking his way and knowing that the monitoring system still hasn't been installed, he tried it with a pen laying on the table.

The pen started moving slowly, the more focusing he invested, the faster the pen moved. Flipping and rotating, up and down, faster and slower, the more he uses the energy the easier and harder it becomes.

Not wanting to attract attention, all of this was done under the table. When he thought it was enough, the pen was returned to its previous position on the table.

Looking at people clamoring over the jumping captain, he seemed to perceive their emotions more vividly. Like the feeling of empathy has been amplified by nth times but without him being overwhelmed by the emotions.

Thinking of a plot in certain movies, Dr. Akeel hesitated a little whether to try it or not.

It wasn't until Captain Jones came bursting through the door with two more awakeners that he decided to give it a try.

He cautiously extended a thin line of energy towards the person closest to him which happened to his assistant Roy.

The closer the line of energy is, the more vivid Roy's emotions become.

Until the line touched Roy's head, a change happened.

"Wow! They really Awakened superpowers!" *surprise* *excitement*

"Captain Gill became so strong!" *excitement* *envy*

"That Tulok looks Like he could take the role of a Tank!" *excitement* *envy*

"Johana looks so cute.. " *blush*

"She has physic powers!!" *amazement*

"Why didn't I awaken" *envy*

Not only was Dr. Akeel able to sense Roy's emotions, he could also hear his thoughts!

Dr. Akeel Widened his eyes in surprise. He only tried it with the mentality of 'why not' and 'maybe', and didn't expect it to really work like the power possessed by a certain Bald headed professor.

Then Dr. Akeel became like a kid getting a new toy, hopping all over the place, going from one person to another while reading their thoughts and emotions.

However, it was only their current thoughts, not their memories.

Most of them being a mix of fear, amazement, excitement, envy, and greed. Some of these thoughts made him scared, and some let him know who could be trusted. Especially when he happened to be reading Colonel Stedman's thoughts about experimenting on foreign awakeners.

Although he is a citizen of the ULA, he has dual citizenship which makes his situation sometimes awkward.

So he decided to hide his awakening from other people until everything became clear.

"Hungry…."

While Dr. Akeel was thinking, his mind was still registering the things happening in the room, courtesy of the stronger brainpower.

Aware of the imminent pangs of hunger, he didn't wait until it hit him.

As soon as the medical team started moving towards the medical unit, he followed them, even if someone asked him why he was going after the medical team, considering his position in the camp, there is nothing wrong with being curious.

A thought came to his mind before taking the first step. If I can perceive their thoughts, can I radiate mine? If you think about it, do it anyway.

Connecting a line of energy with Roy, he sent a thought to look at the ceiling. To his surprise, a feeling of resistance was feedback.

'It must be the mind subconsciously protecting itself.'

Trying again, he sent a suggestion kind of thought this time continuously. To his surprise, Roy looked at the ceiling this time for a second, then looked back at the departing awakeners.

This time Dr. Akeel didn't hesitate and started radiating a thought continuously to everyone.

The thought was just to let people ignore him, he wasn't sure this was going to work at first, luckily it did.

Along the way, Dr. Akeel kept on reading people's minds, only Johana's mind was left out because she possessed a psychic power.

In case she can sense the probing into her mind, then all the hiding is in vain.

He started getting the panning of the hanger just as the medical team arrived at their destination.

Looking at them injecting Tulok and Johana with a bag of nutritions solutions, he grabbed one of them and hurried away. Because at this moment he started to feel his energy running out.

Hurting all the way to his office, he barely got there before his energy bottomed.

*shick*

Tearing the outer seal of the bag he roughly adjusted the output of the injection before injecting himself.

As the solution runs through the body, the pang of hunger keeps on decreasing. Opening the first drawer on his disk, he grabs a bar of chocolate and devours it like a hungry beast, ignoring his usually elegant demeanor.

*sigh*

After eating, he finally felt relaxed and sighed in relief.

"What an ugly feeling, I haven't felt this hungry since the war back home when I was a kid."

Thinking of home, he quickly grabs the phone to call his family before the communication gets restricted.

*Ring*

"Hello! Akeel is that you?"

A soft female voice echoed from the phone. Hearing the voice, Dr. Akeel felt emotional but still said seriously,

"Honey, I have something important to tell you, so listen carefully."

Noticing the seriousness in her husband tone, she asked worriedly,

"Hubby, what's the matter?"

Hesitating for a second, he still told her.

"Honey, I.. I... I MARRIED A SECOND WIFE! HAHAHA!"
