7 The Next Day

As I wake up, the sky is a bright red and blue. I check my phone to see what time it is and... oh no... It's 7:30! My bus just left, How am I gonna make it to school on time now?!? Wait, yesterday I was practicing that teleportation technique, lets hope I can pull it off this time.

As I pack my bags and all my homework, I grab a couple books to read during school. Specifically 'Intermediate Gravity Magic Index: Volume One' and 'Guide to Gravity Magic: Volume 2'. I then sit down and try to focus on the image of overlapping my current location with with the entrance of my school. And...

"AHH!" As a bunch of random students scream in terror seeing space suddenly bend, a floating girl emerges from the space-time warp.

"Wow it really worked!" I can't believe that technique worked! Doesn't seem like I have the MP to take anyone else with me, that teleport took too much MP as it is. I suddenly realize I am surrounded by students who were just going to their classes, now staring at me.

"Uh..." My social skills fail me as I have no idea of what to say to explain this situation. Oh no, I'm still floating too. Oh well to late too end the technique now. I slowly float to my first class and hope that this will blow over in a couple days.

===

Random POV:

"Did you just see that person teleport straight into school? They have to be rich! That machine costs millions to buy!"

"Yeah, but if they're that rich, why were they going to our school?"

"How else do you explain it though? She was also floating. It was almost majestic."

And soon rumors about the 'Floating Elf Princess' would spread around the school. Much to the disliking of Jess.

===

Normal POV:

That was awkward however at least I learned my technique works! Yeah, look on the bright side. I make my way to Japanese Class and float through the door while everyone just stares at me... oh yeah, I guess people floating isn't normal. I float to the ground and sit in my chair.

Some random person walks over to me, "Hello Jess, I'm Trevor Smith, and I just wanted to know, how were you even floating earlier? I've never seen that before."

Come on communication skills don't fail me now, "Well, uh, you see, I have an innate talent in Gravity magic so I kind of just do it out of habit..."

"Innate talent in Gravity magic, isn't that super rare! I didn't expect you to be so special, you barely stick out at all!"

OUCH! I know my communication skills aren't up to par, but that's not a nice thing to say y'know?

"Uh, yeah... I guess. I don't really think it's anything special though."

"What do you mean? Innate talents for gravity magic are one out of every hundred-thousand people you know?"

"That's still seventy-eight-thousand people..."

"Look, you're the first person I've ever seen with this innate talent. I think that makes it pretty rare."

"I don't think that's how it works though..."

"Okay class, time to take your seats, class is about to start!" And I am saved by the teacher. As Trevor walks back to his desk, he gives me a stare telling me that this conversation isn't over. I have a bad feeling about this.

'Well, most people have seen me floating by now so I don't think it's a bad thing to do it every once-in-a-while' I think to justify me starting to float again. Ever since I started doing it, I feel uncomfortable when I'm NOT floating. This definitely has to do with my innate talent. This urge only started once I started using Gravity magic. There is no other explanation.

My class gives me weird looks for a little, and I think I saw one snap a photo, but I'm too wimpy to say anything about it. I just go on studying some kanji. Finally the class ends and I start to float out the door. I wonder how weird this looks to everyone else?

Next class is Magic Studies. As I float into the class, most people do a double take seeing me float to my seat. I thought they saw me float yesterday, it shouldn't be that new to them... Oh well, it's not everyday you can see someone float like I do." I swear I heard someone whisper, "Is she the Floating Elf Princess I saw on Snapgram?" but I must be hearing things. I hope I am at least.

"Okay class, since you are finally in your third year of Magic Studies, today we will be deciding which Magic type to specialize in. This is because, while learning all types of magic is in fact possible, it isn't MP effective. Specializing in one thing allows you to develop it better than someone who focuses on all types of magic. It would be like trying to be a pro at every sport versus specializing in football." Mrs. Dragonheart goes on to explain every type of magic we can choose to learn.

"There is Bottom tier, Fire magic, Water magic, and Plant magic, the basics and easiest to learn. Then there are Middle tier, the more difficult ones to learn, Shadow, Light, and Transformation magic. Finally there is Top tier, the most difficult types of magic, Time magic, Gravity magic, and Atomic magic. Of course there are others, but these are the types of magic you can learn at our school. If you wish to learn another there are schools that specialize in different types of magic. It's a miracle that our school can teach magic such as Time, Gravity, and Atomic magic with how extremely rare they are, and our school's budget."

"Please remember that while you can change the type of magic you specialize in, you will essentially have to restart the learning process each time."

While the class goes around, most people answer with either Fire magic, Water magic, or Plant magic, with a couple more difficult ones sprinkled in, but no one chooses the most difficult ones.

Then it gets to William, who I met yesterday. He ends up choosing Time magic which surprises the entire class. Out of all the magic taught, it is one of the hardest, to top it off he's a Sapient who are well known for their weak magical prowess. There is something strange about him.

Finally it gets to me, and I'd think it's obvious which one I'm choosing. "Um, I choose Gravity magic." While this does surprise a couple people, seeing as most saw me float into the classroom, and the fact that I'm an elf, it didn't surprise nearly as much people as William did.

"Okay, so for the Bottom tier magic we have fifteen people, for Middle tier we have seven people, and for Top tier, we have two people. Jess and William are you sure this is the magic you want to study? Remember you can change any time."

"Yep! I've always wanted to specialize in Time magic!" William practically yells to the entire room.

"I have an innate talent for Gravity magic... so... yes." In comparison I can barely squeeze out a response.

"Wait, she has an innate talent? For Gravity magic at that? Isn't that, like, super rare?" I hear people whispering stuff like this for a couple seconds before the Mrs. Dragonheart quiets us down with Sound magic. Turns out she specializes with magic not taught at this school. Don't know how that happened. I guess even though they have a teacher who can teach the magic, the school doesn't have the resources to actually teach it.

"Quiet everyone. The rest of the period will be spent with you reading about your respective magic types. I expect you to be ready to learn by tomorrow. If you need books about magic, you are free to visit the library."

Good thing I brought those books from home. I start reading 'Intermediate Gravity Magic Index: Volume One' when William walks over to me.

"I didn't expect anyone else to choose such a difficult type of magic."

"Um... if I may ask... why did you choose such difficult magic when... y'know... you're a Sapient?"

"Well, you see, I may be a Sapient, but I have a lot more MP than most other Sapients. A lot of people thought it was freaky so my parents decided to move us somewhere with more people that have magic as strong as mine, and now we are here in the EUT."

"Oh, I see... sorry for asking..."

"It's fine I get asked it a lot."

The rest of class goes by quickly. William and I decide to study together since the difficulty of our specialized magic are so similar. He seems to be really good at magic for someone who doesn't have an innate talent, it's actually crazy. Much better than most Sapients. He even stated some applications of Gravity magic I hadn't thought of before. I almost doubt the fact he's a Sapient, it is pretty crazy.

The bell finally rings and I wave William goodbye. Time to head to my next class!
