31 Pop Quiz

"We will now show the final results for the obstacle course. The top 25 teams shall move on to the next part of the competition."

The results are shown, and everyone can see their place, and how much time they took on the large floating magical screen.

"The next part of the competition will be a test! Knowledge can be just as important as physical prowess! The remaining twelve teams will move on to the next round."

I see, my knowledge of history doesn't go beyond the most basics because I can only remember how things were before the Shift, but other than that I should be fine. Sasha should be able to back me up there too.

"The quiz will start thirty minutes from now, contestants please get some rest during that time and be ready to compete by then."

Well, I hope most of these questions are magic-based. Those questions are the easiest to answer for me. Next to that is science and math. Lastly, I'd say it is history. That would also be the case before the Shift, history is my least favorite subject, but I would still know a lot more than I do now.

Everything I know about this world's history is literally stuff I read off of the internet. I don't know how long that's going to last me in the real world. Whatever, I'll just do my best.

=== Thirty Minutes Later ===

The quiz is finally about to start! Sasha and I have just been begging that it's not our worst subjects.

"We will now begin the quiz. For the first question, what is the most important part of a magic spell? Is it A, creativity, is it B, amount of MP, is it C, practice, or is it D, understanding of magic theory?"

This part isn't that hard, the answer is A. Magic is making what you imagine possible, you can do better and stronger magic with more MP, but without creativity, you will never come up with the spell in the first place. On top of that, not everyone casts the same spell in the same way, but in a way that they understand.

For example, when creating water vapor some people will imagine water changing form to a vapor, while others will imagine the process of heating up water and evaporating it.

In the end, the amount of creativity you have when casting magic can make the impossible possible. I write down the answer on the answer sheet that we were given beforehand.

"Next question, what is the sine on pi over three."

That's a pretty basic trigonometry question, the answer is the square root of three over two. I write that on my paper. These questions go on for a while, math questions and magic questions. Some are multiple-choice and others are free-response. There really isn't much of a pattern between the questions, but I think that's to throw people off.

Eventually, a history question pops up, and it is about what weapons were banned after World War I. We only need to include one, which makes it simpler, I don't know if history for WWI is the same, because if it is, I can just answer chemical weapons. I'll write it down anyway and pray it's right.

A couple more questions about math that I'm pretty confident in, and another history question shows up. It's about the cultural exchange between the EUT and Europe when the Europeans first discovered North America. It's not called North America in Elvish however, you can't really translate the name into anything, so for simplicity's sake, I'll call it North America.

I honestly have no clue what the question is asking, something about how the Sapients first reacted to the lifestyle of Elves at the time... it's confusing. I ask Sasha because we are allowed to consult our partners, but she has no clue either. She even said she was just about to ask me because I'm an Elf...

Well, luckily the question is multiple choice so I just answer C and go on with the rest of the quiz. I literally have no clue what the answer is supposed to be, but at least I have a one-fourth chance of being right.

The next question is literally about how guns work, I guess that isn't common knowledge in this world. And no, I do not mean the complicated stuff, I mean the question was about what bullets are, and how the bullet is fired from the gun.

It is free-response too! The poor people who aren't Sapients, or me who has memories of before the Shift. A lot of them don't even know what a gun is. I just write a bullet's shape varies depending on the weapon, but normally has a rounded edge and a flat edge that is hit by a hammer sparking gunpowder firing the gun. Very simplified, but even I don't know the specifics of how it works. I was never a gun enthusiast, but I should get some points for the answer.

Another question is about which race has the strongest magical ability, and it is multiple choice. The funny thing is that it's a trick question. Other than Sapients and Beastmen, Beastmen have slightly less magical ability than other races but more than Sapients, the magical ability between races is actually pretty consistent, so I answer D, none of the above.

There's even a question about Gravity magic, and how it can be used in combat. I think the point of the question is to test people's ingenuity in different types of less used magic, but the question is a piece of cake for me. I literally specialize in Gravity magic.

"We will now announce the final scores of the contestants, please keep in mind that only the top twelve will move onto the next round..."
