4 English Class

Magic Studies is over and from what I got from that class is, it's going to be so cool! I mean, I am totally behind the other students in my studies because of my situation but hey, who wouldn't be excited about magic! Also, I might want to see if I can use a different chant for the, ahem, 'floating spell'. I don't wanna rip off a now non-existent book every time I use that magic. No one will know, but it'd still feel weird y'know.

Next up in the day is English class, something so simple, yet so difficult. First of all, I don't know how this subconscious translation I'm having works. If every time I thought I was speaking English I was speaking Elvish, what happens when I actually want to speak English? Does the auto-translation only work when I'm not actively thinking about the language, or does it change based off of situation?

Well, I'll find out. In a few minutes really. First on the list is to find the English classroom though. As I walk up to C244, I see some pretty interesting posters. I always forget that I'm in this new world and there are a bunch of other races, so seeing all these posters saying things like, "Interesting Facts: Sapients use a weapon called a gun to account for their lack of magical power." is definitely kind of weird. To me, the use of guns is nothing new, but apparently magic is so good for self defense that most races use it over weapons like guns. And since most Sapients don't have large quantities of magic, they still have to use them.

"Okay class, welcome to English class. Here we will be learning about..." and right around there I completely zoned out. After most of this stuff is things I already know. Like what the letter 'A' is and how it sounds. Jeez, I thought this class would be an easy A, and it turns out I was right in the most lame way.

English class is centered around multiple things. First is the learning of Sapients. While obviously there are other languages Sapients speak like Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, etc. The most popular are English and Spanish. In this new world the English speaking countries seem to do more trading overall so it is a required class.

Second is the learning of the English language. AKA the easy stuff. Learning about Sapients is a little different but the language is the same.

Since I know both, I'm pretty prepared for this class.

"Okay anyone with prior experience please try and translate this sentence." The teacher asks as I zone back into class. 'Wow that sentence is easy but I don't wanna stick out so... I'll just not do anything.'

Well if no one is going to volunteer I just pick randomly. "Okay Jess, you can try."

'Okay well, at least this is a good time to test how this auto-translation works, just focus on speaking English. Ugh, talking in front of the class sucks though, lets get this over with.'

"Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore." I quickly read off the board.

Why is the class so surprised? Sure the sentence is a tongue twister but it isn't that bad. Oh, well I guess to someone who doesn't speak English it would be extremely difficult. Well at least now I know I can still speak English.

"Good job Jess, you can sit down." The teacher says still a little shocked on my seemingly fluent English.

'And here I thought I wouldn't stand out much. Also, if the sentence was so hard, was she just trying to embarrass some random victim their first day?'

Well actually that does match her race. It seems she is a Shifter. Shifters are indigenous to an unknown land. It seems they were just discovered one day impersonating a Dark Elf than switching to a Sapient. Ever since then more and more have been revealed and they are now marked as an official race by most countries. Although for privacy reasons they cant just shift into anyone they want.

Shifters are known to be tricksters. They like pulling pranks on unsuspecting victims. So while she looks like an innocent Sapient English teacher, it seems she is more than that. You really can't judge on appearance in this world. Well you can't in any world... but still!

Also, I just realized this, but I am taking 3 language classes, what the heck! English, Elvish, and Japanese! Why couldn't this-world-me just choose one or two! Elvish is necessary so couldn't you just take English or Japanese separate years! Then again I've been taking Japanese for 3 years already so I guess it was unavoidable with English being a requirement and my determination to stick with Japanese.

Also, is it just me or am I freaking out over the weirdest things. It seems like I'm freaking out more over school than anything else. Well I have the answer to this weird occurrence! The truth is I am totally using school as a way to distract myself from the ginormous elephant in the room. WHY AM I A GIRL!

Seriously, everyone else I've seen so far only had changes to their race. All the teachers and students I knew before look like they did before except for their race. Everyone except for me that is! How is that even fair. And why do I remember everything! No one else seems to! Does it have anything to do with that nothingness I saw. No that's a stupid question, of course it does. It seems like there isn't anything I can do about it though, for now that is.
