Kidnapper's POV:

"How did that girl escape!" Seriously, my boss is gonna kill me! Our group has been looking for those specializing in certain types of magic, and needed a Gravity mage. We finally found one, super young too. Too bad she was a disgusting traitor.

Seriously, you're blessed with that magic and you use it for scum like Sapients? What she said to me before she disappeared too, what blasphemy! Just because one Sapient has MP doesn't justify their existence!

Apparently the higher-ups were planning on getting a Mind mage to help convince her. Too late for that though, by now she is long gone, and after this incident, will probably be better guarded. Another chance of finding a Gravity mage like her that is easy to kidnap is low.

On the other hand, since it is technically my fault, I'm totally dead right?

*Knock* *Knock*

Uh oh, I hear sirens! I need to get out of here, the place has been discovered! I pull the emergency alarms, and get what research I can. If the police find out what we were doing here, everything we've been working for will be for naught!

"I see there's a little roach who made it out."

"B-boss!!! Y-y-you see, about the girl-"

"Not only did you let a sixteen-year-old girl escape, but you lead the police right to us? You've failed twice, you know what this means right?"

"Wait! I can explain! You se-" The last thing I see is the face of a man with glowing red eyes, staring down at me, as the world fades into darkness.

Jess' POV:

"Police reports state that the leader of this terrorist group is a Dragon-kin looking around 30 years of age. He has a scar across his forearm, and specializes in the outlawed Death magic. If you see someone fitting his description, please immediately report it to the authorities."

A Death mage, huh. There are multiple magics that are outlawed across the world. The big three are Death magic, Mind magic, and Soul magic. Death magic is outlawed because of what is known as the massacre of 1692, which was around the time of the Salem Witch Trials in the original world. Long story short, a group of Death mages slaughtered entire towns full of people over night.

The second is Mind magic, it is illegal because of it's ability to control minds, and it's persuasion abilities. It was originally developed by a magic researcher in the hopes of making himself smarter. However, his simple concept was bought out and weaponized by the military of the country he lived in. For a long time, diplomatic relations were good in that country because of the brainwashing aspect of the magic, but eventually people found out, leading the fall of the country.

The third is Soul magic. The reason it's banned is simple. It's taboo. Souls in this world are widely accepted as fact, even by those who claim to be atheists. Because of this, souls are something more important than life itself. Messing with them is punishable by a fate worse than death.

Needless to say in war these taboo's have been broken countless times, and the monstrosities committed with magic can sometimes be worse in this world than the old version. Who needs an atomic bomb when you can say a few words and a whole city dies? When you can wave your hand and a country falls?

Since World War 3, which yes it happened in this world, using magic in large scales, like the ones that destroy cities is illegal, even in war. Just like nuclear bombs. Because of this Sapients with their scientific weapons now hold more of a level playing field then they had before.

Obviously, this has caused tension between Europe, in which most Sapients live, and other continents that hold different races that used to rely on magic in war.

Back to that creepy guy though, Death magic, huh. I hope I don't run into him in the future. Wait, did I just jinx it?

"Hey Jess, what are you doing?" And my sister is back home... what is she even doing home on a weekday.

"Why do you ask?"

"What about school? Shouldn't you be in class right now?"

"Apparently my teachers are forcing me to take a day off, something about how I was kidnapped."

"Oh yeah, that makes sense... WAIT KIDNAPPED!!"

"Yeah, didn't get hurt at all though, didn't you know?"

"No! I've been away because of some stuff happening, and lost my phone!"

"Yeah, some random dude shoved me in a bag and took me to his hidden base. Said some stupid stuff about how our race is superior to Sapients and shouldn't be helping them, blah blah blah. It was pretty easy to escape."

"Wait, don't tell me it was that terrorist group that has been attacking Sapients recently..."

"I dunno, didn't ask, just got the heck out of there after I remembered the address of their hidden base."

"You know, you do really ridiculous stuff sometimes, are you sure you're a normal high-schooler and not some action movie protagonist?"

"No! Of course not! Maybe..."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"It's complicated, okay?"

The rest of the day I just spend watching TV. I hope my life calms down soon, too much stuff has been happening recently. Can I get one normal day, thank you very much! What do you want me to do! I'm not superhuman!

Whatever, I get on with William and we play some video games after school is over for him. He can finally leave the hospital so we celebrated with trying to get some more wins on 'Spell Craft Battle'. Most normal people would throw a party or something, but all I can say is, that is not what we do!

I don't think William is against it really, it's just, well, lets be honest, he has no friends. Neither do I to be fair. So basically, I'm too terrible at socializing, and he has no one to invite so we settled with video games.

Now you might be wondering why William has no friends? There isn't much Sapients that live in the EUT, maybe 0.5% of the population. To top it off, he has mostly avoided people because of his magic poisoning. So there is your answer!

Anyway, back on topic, we win a couple games, celebrate a little, say goodbye, and get off. For some reason he seemed in a rush today. I don't know why but something seems to be stressing him out. Hope there isn't anything going on with him right now, other than the whole magic poisoning thing, because I know that isn't over yet.

It would suck if he had something else to worry about on top of that. We'll see when I finally make it back to school, I've been falling way too behind on my studies, so tomorrow I'm studying my butt off.
