Chapter 4

Marilyn ran as fast as she could as she heard the knights chasing after her. "Who are you?" Marilyn asked as she hid behind a tree knowing she wouldn't be able to outrun them forever. Suddenly a female ghost appeared in front of her. She had short black black hair and wore a knights uniform.

"Your a dame" Marilyn whispered as she stared at the ghost in front of her. "My name is Sable Gardner I was a knight of the barons family" Dame Sable told Marilyn. "Do you know why they're after me?" Marilyn asked. "They know" the ghost whispered before disappearing. "You have to run" she whispered in Marilyn's ear.

Marilyn went to run but was Suddenly grabbed. "Ahhh" she screamed as she tried to get out of the knight's grasp. "Quiet" the knight said as he held the sword to her neck. Tears filled her eyes as her screams became quiet. "What is it you want from?" Marilyn asked through gritted teeth.

"Oh enough of this," a man said from behind her. Suddenly everything went black as she felt something hard hit the back of her head.

"Tie her up and get her to the carriage" one knight said to the other.

When Marilyn opened her eyes she was in a carriage Sitting across from Baron Miller. Her arms were tied behind her back, "I see you're finally awake" Baron Miller said as Marilyn slowly sat up. "Where are you taking me?" Marilyn asked.

"To the capital" he said simply. "Why?" She asked him. "You don't seem to know your place" the baron said. "Your place is barely above my own. I have no reason to treat you as a noble" Marilyn told him. "Don't act as if you're of a higher status then you are, Marilyn I am only following orders as should you" he told her. "What is it he wants from me?" Mari asked.

"All I know is he believes you have something he needs, something important," he told her. "And how would he know that" Marilyn asked "Perhaps your brother" he said. "He has been in the capital quite sometime. I'm sure he's part of the imperial guard by now," he added.

"My brother knows nothing about me that could benefit the king," she told him. "Perhaps not," the baron said. "But you have something he needs and the king... well he can do whatever he pleases" the baron said.

"What of my mother?" Marilyn asked. "She has been... informed of the situation she will meet you in the capital" he told her. "It's at least a 3 day trip by carriage" Marilyn stated. "The king has allowed us to take a shortcut through imperial territory, it should only take a day" he told her.

"How generous," Marilyn said sarcastically. "My thoughts exactly," he replied.

"How could you let her get captured? I told you to protect her, Biden" Damien said. "I'm sorry Damien, by the time I got there it was too late, I have no doubt she is on her way to the capital by now" Biden told Damien. "Alright" Damien said as he put his pen down and stood up from his desk. "What are you doing" Biden asked following Damien out of his office. "Send a notice to the servants of the town house in the capital. I'll be arriving tomorrow morning" he said.

"You'll get there far before the notice my lord" Biden said confused. "Then use a witch to send it" he told him as he walked out of his mansion and around to the woods while Biden followed him. "Even so my lord it's a 3 day trip by carriage and 2 by running you won't arrive by morning" he told him. "I'll be running nonstop" Damien said as he took off his jacket. "I don't understand why do all of this for a common girl?" Biden asked. Damien turned to Biden.

"Because I don't believe she is just a common girl," Damien told him. "In fact I believe this gift she has can help us join our worlds together" he told him. "Wait, you're not saying you wish to marry this girl?" Biden asked. "No noble would approve, supernatural or not," Biden said. "The king told me I may marry whomever I wish" Damien said. "What better way to join the unnatural and natural world than to have someone who lives on the line of life and death" he explained.

"Now if you'll excuse me I have a maiden to save" Damien said before shifting into his wolf form and running into the woods. 'But to marry a human' Biden linked Damien. 'If I truly believed her to be just human I doubt I would go this far' Damien linked back. 'What are you saying she is some sort of witch then?' Biden asked. "She must be," Damien said.

A day passed quickly as Marilyn and the baron traveled along the imperial territory to get to the capital quicker. Marilyn sat staring out the window when suddenly a familiar voice hit her ear.

"You shouldn't trust him, you know," Dame Sable said, appearing next to the baron. Marilyn looked at her who stared at Miller in what seemed to be a loving way. "Why?" Marilyn asked simply "why what?" the baron asked, confused. "I trusted him once," Sable said lightly, caressing his face. "I loved him once," she continued. "Until the day he betrayed me" Sable said as pain filled her eyes. Marilyn looked at the baron. "Why did you betray Dame Sable Gardner?" Marilyn asked.

Baron Miller's eyes went wide. "How do you know of her?" He asked. "Don't tell him I'm here," Sable said. "Tell him I was a friend of your mother's" she told her. "She was a friend of my mother's," Marilyn told him. "I did indeed betray Sable," he told her. "But not for the reason anyone would think," he said. "Then why?" Marilyn asked.

"I think she would like to know if she were here," Marilyn told him. The baron let out a sigh. "I betrayed her because of how I loved her," he said.
