1 The Wolf Den

Part 1 The New Beginning

You are in the middle of nowhere, you are lost. you have a light jacket, pants, and a pair of boots. The temperature is 28 degrees. your hands are numb, holding yourself trying to keep your core temperature up. Your teeth begin to chatter, body begins to shake. It is just your body trying to create friction to keep warm, it is not working. you looked at your watch its 5:36 p.m. the sun is staring to go down. The temperature is dropping fast, you feel the cold hit your heart. You find a dry place under a spruce tree, there are dry sticks and leaves. You remembered the lighter in your back pocket. you grab it, but you cannot feel a thing. You bunch up the sticks and leaves and put the lighter underneath and you try your hardest to light it. you put just enough pressure down and a small spark comes out. You try again and then the flame comes, you hold it down, but as that happed, you gave a breath of relief and blew out the flame, you grunted in anger and tried again. The temperature is now seven degrees. You press down and the flame comes again, you hold it underneath the sticks and leaves. Soon you hear the crackle of the sticks. You grab more sticks and pile them on top as the fire gets bigger. you lean up against the spruce tree and put my hands by the fire; you feel the sensation of warmth. Darkness draws over the sky, and there are green lights covering the sky like the ocean, swaying. You cannot fall asleep; you have make sure my fire does not go out. you become very drowsy, and your eyes are heavy, soon you wake up and its morning. Sunshine hits your eyes, you get up and your fire is still going, but it is about to die. You rush to go find more dry sticks. You look under more trees and gather as much sticks as possible. You head back to your fire and build it up again, you cannot stay here for long, as hunger starts to take over your body. You lay back down and warm up again, until its mid-day.

Part 2 The Cabin

Your body is warm as you lay next to your fire, soon your stomach growls. You get up and try and find a big enough stick to put a hot ember in. You find one, shovel up one of the hot embers you grab some dry leaves and put them inside of your pocket, and you start to walk. The snow is up to your ankles, and you begin to get cold again. You keep walking hoping to find someone or something to help you. You blow on your ember to keep it hot. You look up and see a dark figure in the distance. It is the size of a small house, you run to it and its an abandon cabin. You go up to the door and try opining it, it is frozen shut. You stand back and kick it; the door opens with a loud thud. You look inside and there are pots, pans, and coats on the wall. You look around the cabin and see a fireplace with dry wood next to it. You walk over and put the hot ember into the bottom of the fireplace. You take the dry leaves and place them on the hot ember, soon the leaves catch fire, and you grab a log and put it on top. You watch as the log begins to crackle. You place more on top, and you keep looking around the cabin for more supplies. You find cans of food, but they were expired by five years. You throw them against the wall in anger, as your body eats itself. You see a gun safe sitting in the corner of the cabin you open it to find a rifle. You look on the top shelf to find a box of ammunition. You jump with joy. Your mouth is dry, and you feel weak. You grab a pot off the wall and go outside and shovel up some snow. You walk back inside and place it over the fireplace. You sit down and wait for the snow to melt. You think to yourself, who use to live here and why did they leave all their stuff. You look inside the pot and mostly all the snow is melted. You pick it up and put it to you mouth and tip it. You feel the cold water go down your throat and hit your stomach. You set it down and you walk over to the wall and find a heavy coat and a pair of snow pants. You put them on and to your surprise they fit. Your stomach growls again and you grab the rifle and head out.

Part 3 The Lucky Shot

You walk outside, and the cold hits your cheeks. The temperature is 36 degrees. You scan the tree line, and you head into the forest. You try to be quiet, stepping as lightly as possible. You come up on to this ridge, you look over and see a mule deer. You pull the butt of the rifle up to your cheek and look down your sights. The deer's side lines up in your cross hairs, you aim right form the lungs, suddenly, your right foot snaps a branch, the deer looks up and sees you. It starts running, you aim in front of it and squeeze the trigger. You look up and the deer drops. You let out a yell of happiness. You walk down and you get on your knees next to the deer and start petting it, thanking it. The fur on the deer is soft, and its warm, you soon pick it up and take it back to the cabin. You set it outside, and go inside and try to find a knife, you look next to the fireplace. There is a buck knife sitting in the corner, you grab it and head back outside. You go and cut a tree limb off and set it on the ground. You pick up the deer and set it on top. You grab the knife and stab it into the deer, then you slide it down its belly. Guts and blood pour out, and so does steam. The smell of the deer is not so pleasant, then you take out the guts and clean it. You take the deer and skin it; you hang the hide on a tree limb. You cut the meat of the deer and then you hang the rest of the deer about 20 feet off the ground, so no predators get it. You take the guts of the deer and place them on the limb, and you walk 300 yards away from your cabin, and drop them off. You are thankful that your grandpa taught you this when you were younger. You walk back to the cabin and grab the meat that you cut; you bring it inside and place it in a pot of boiling water to sterilize it. You then take it and place it on a pan, you here the beautiful sizzle of the meat cooking. It is now done; you take it and bite into it, the meat taste very gammy. You feel the meat hit your stomach, as you finish your dinner you find a book in one of the bags. You start reading it, and then you fall asleep.

Part 4 Rude Awakening

A loud bang came from outside, you jump up in fear. You peak outside the window to see the deer carcass laying on the ground. You grab the rifle and open the door. You look up in the trees and there swaying. The wind must have knocked it down; you close the door and head back to your fireplace. Look down at your watch, its 10:45 a.m. You grab the pot and head outside to grab some snow. You look at the carcass and see that is has been nibbled on; you look out to the tree line, but you see nothing. You head back inside and set the pot of snow on the fire. You keep watch on the carcass to see if anything would come by. You look at your watch and see that its 1:25 p.m. you go to your pot of water and take a sip. You feel great now that you have had food and water. You hear a growl, and you grab your rifle and look outside your window. You look toward the carcass and see a wolf eating it. You open the door, and point you rifle at the wolf. The wolf looks up at you and growls. Your heart races, you take a breath and pull the trigger. The wolf yelps and runs off; you know you hit it, there is blood. You go back inside and put on the coat and snow pants. Then you head out looking for the wolf that you shot. You start by looking for blood, you see little spots in the snow. It is easy to track because of the white snow. You keep following it, and then it stops. You look up to see it laying on the ground, dead. You walk up to it and pick it up and started heading back to the cabin, as you reach the cabin you see that the deer carcass is gone. You drop the wolf, and you look at the drag marks. More wolves, the wolf you killed was small and had grew fur. You took the wolf and skinned it, you then took the carcass and dropped it the same place you dropped off the guts. You head back to the cabin; you take the dry deer hide and make a coat out of it. you sit next to the fire reading your book, now you must think about the wolves and see if you can kill them all. They will not stop until your gone, or dead and out of their territory.

Part 5 Its Time to Leave

You wake up the sun is just coming over the horizon. You grab your coats and snow pants, you put them on and then your boots. You grab your rifle; you investigate the box of ammunition and see that there are only six rounds left. You grab the bag and put some left-over meat in it. You take the deer and wolf hide place them over your shoulders and walk out. You turn around and you tell the cabin bye. You are walking in the same direction that you came; you're hoping that you can find a road, or even a trail. You hear the snow crunch beneath your feet, you are thinking about your parents and how proud they would be. Your family misses you; you remember the last time you seen your brothers and the last words you said to them. You look up in the sky and you see clouds; you take a deep breath and feel the cold air go down your throat. You look down at your watch and see that it is 12:34 p.m. you keep waking. Passing the spruce tree that you slept under. You have been walking for five hours now. You sit down on a rock; you are catching your breath. The temperature is a nice 42 degrees, you say to yourself "man today is a great day to leave this beautiful place." You get back up and continue walking, you find yourself on a trail, next to a river. You continue following it, trying to find a way back to a road. You look down at your watch to see that its 3:57 p.m. you say to yourself "man time flies by fast." You are walking and you sing to yourself, a song your grandpa uses to sing to you, whenever he would take you oust camping or fishing. "oh, does the wind blow… its so cold… but I am bold… nature can't beat me… and if she does… might as well take my knee." You laugh to yourself as you walk. The sky is getting darker and darker as you walk, you walk up to the side of a mountain and you gather stick. You build it up into a tepee shape; you take your lighter and you light one of the branches at the bottom. The fire travels up into the tepee, soon you have a huge fire. You clear a spot on the ground and sit down, soon the sun goes down.

Part 6 With Darkness Comes Death

You are sitting there feeding your fire. Keeping it big, you grab a piece of meat and put it on the end of a stick and put it by the fire. You hear it sizzle, you take it off the stick and eat it. You sit back down, with your back up against the wall, rifle in hand. It is quiet, suddenly a howl comes from in front of you. You stand up and look to see what it is, and how close it is. You see a set of glowing eyes staring at you. You rase your rifle up pointed at the wolf, soon more and more eyes appear. You see that it is a whole pack, you count 12 there could be more. You know you do not have enough bullets for all of them. You grab a stick light it up and point in front of you. You see the outline of a huge black wolf; this must be the alpha. In a wolf pack you have the alpha (the leader) then there are the betas (second in command) and then lastly the omegas (the lowest rank). You set back and grab thick sticks and you take your buck knife out. You sharpen the tips, making them into spears. You sick them inside of the ground all around you. You hear the wolves running around, barking. Your head is filled with there barking and the sent of death. You yell "COME GET ME." The barking stops. You grab your rifle and aim it into the darkness. You are breathing heavily, looking everywhere. You look at your watch its 4:58 a.m. the sun does not come up until 6:00 a.m. you say to yourself "you just have to last one more hour." Suddenly a wolf jumps at you, you fire the rifle, the wolf drops to the ground. Just a couple inches from you. You look at it, it is small. Must be an omega, the alpha is testing you, soon the wolves start barking. Then a deep and loud bark followed by a yelp comes from a distance, the alpha is getting challenged. The sun is starting to come up, the wolves are starting to head back. The sky is a dark blue. You can see now; in the distance you see the alpha. He is big and strong. You stare into his eyes, saying to yourself "I just have to kill you." He runs off, you get up and gather your supplies and start walking. You cannot let down your guard.

Part 7 The Lights

The wolves will not stop until you are dead now. They know your scent; they can track prey up to 30 miles. With a pack being up to 30 or more. You need to get out of there fast, the closer you are to their den the more aggressive they are. Your walking on this path keeping a close watch. You reach the edge of a mountain; you look over and you can see very faint lights. There about 30 miles away. You look at your watch and see that its 7:34 a.m. if you walk at a steady paste you can cover 10 miles in three hours. That mean that it will take you nine hours to get to the lights. It will be five o-clock when you get there. That is if you do not run into any trouble on the way there. You head down the mountain, checking behind you are making sure you are not being followed. You reach the bottom of the mountain and you reach another stream. You bend down and cup your hands and take a drink. You look back up and you see black in the corner of your eye. You quickly grab your rifle and aim. You see that it's an omega; it's just watching; not making a move. You lower your rifle and continue walking. You keep watch, now its just following you; watching every move you make. You reach the tree line; it then wonders off. You check your watch its 1:47 p.m. your stomach growls at you demanding food. You grab a piece of meant out of your bag; its cooked. You eat it and then continue walking. The alpha sends in the omegas to do the dirty work. They're basically suicide bombers if there were to be a bear or some other predator. They would send them in to test it out see if its strong enough to. The betas are the ones that get the job done. They track the prey and take it down. These wolves take down elk and moose just for fun. The Alphas are the most important. They breed and keep the pack together; they lead them into battle. All you must do is kill the alpha. If you succeed the whole pack falls apart. Its not going to be easy, the pack protects the alpha. You check your watch and its now 4:34 p.m. your about 2 miles from the lights.

Part 8 The Wolves Den

As your walking a wolf appears in front of you. You raise you rifle up and point it right at the wolf. You pull the trigger and the wolf drops. You continue walking; hoping you do not run into anymore. As your walking you hear steps around you. You pick up the paste; you are now jogging. You look at your watch it is now 5:56 p.m. your prediction was wrong. Darkness is now coming. You are going to have to build a fire, or you will die. You look around; trying to find some ware to build a fire. You find a cave you run into it; you trip over something. You look down and see bones. You were right next to their den the whole time. You find some dry branches and sticks, and you start a fire. You are standing there in the wolf's den. You close your eyes, and you think to yourself. If I had just listen to my brother. He told me not to come out here by myself. You hear growling and barking; you look around you and you see shadows running around you. That same low deep bark, it rattled your spine. You grab your rifle and aim is toward the noise. You fire, again and again, dropping rounds into the darkness hoping you hit something. You then realize you are out of bullets. You pull out your buck knife holding it; ready for anything. In the light of your fire, that same huge dark figure appears. It is the alpha, you look into his eyes. He lowers his head; he is challenging you. You hunch over; you scream at him. He shows no fear. You both lunge at each other. Your knife pierces his chest, while his teeth dug into your neck. It all went black; your fire went out. The sun comes up the inside of the cave is lit. you are lying on the ground covered in blood, dead. The alpha laying next you, with a knife in his heart, you had killed the alpha.
