9 The Wand chooses the Wizard

After collecting his emotions, Oz walked into Ollivanders. Being an honest true fan of the Harry Potter series before his untimely death, this event felt huge to him.

As Oz entered the shop he saw Ollivander behind the counter sorting different wand boxes around while muttering to himself.

'So thats Ollivander, the wand maker. I have no clue what to expect here from my wand'.

Oz walked up to the counter, his physique that was taller than others at his age due to extensive exercising, allowed him to see over the counter of Ollivanders with ease. Strewn across every square inch of the shop behind the counter were all different kinds of wands. Interestingly, Oz could sense each wand had its own innate ego or maybe a more simpler term would be its own magic.

As Oz was looking around the shop, infatuated with the sight of all the wands, Ollivander stops what he was doing, noticing he is there. The man comes up to him a calculating smile on his face.

"Hello there young man, I imagine you're here for your wand?"

Oz looked up at Ollivander with a grin.

"Yes sir"

"Great!" said Ollivander, "I do hope that you will be an interesting one to find a wand for".

Ollivander took a long deep look at Oz, almost skewering him with his eyes before turning around and walking into the back of the shop. After a while, Ollivander from the back of the shop starts talking to Oz.

"You have interesting eyes for an 11 year old boy, its as if you know the world, see all, understand what is to come and what you must do. A look of confidence and expectation, yet you seem to carry some naivety too. Honestly if it wasn't for your stature and age I'd paint you as a man near the end of his life or at least someone who has brushed with death, feeling gratitude for the life given to him and taking on the world by storm".

Oz didn't let it show on his face but he was shocked inside. Ollivander had profiled him down to a T. Nearly everything said is on the nose.

'As a man who has to deal with hundreds of kids buying wands from him, it would make sense that the man can read a persons emotions more than the average person out there'.

It took 5 more minutes until Ollivander came back to the front desk with a few wand boxes in his hands for Oz to try out, to see if he had a connection with any of them.

"Now my boy, try holding each wand. The wand chooses the wizard so when a wand that accepts you is wielded by you, you will know".

Oz picked up each of the wands on the desk, none of them really feeling right in his hand. None of the wands established a connection with him either, letting Oz understand that none of these wands were meant for him.

"You are certainly an interesting one child, you don't disappoint" Ollivander responded, seeing how all the wands weren't responding to Oz. He quickly picks up all the wand boxes and again ventures into the back of the shop in search for more options for Oz to try.

"Looking at you in a magical sense boy, It seems you aren't entirely light or dark based. Maybe this is me being over-analytical, but it almost seems as if you'll except any and all magic in the pursuit of bettering yourself. A noble pursuit indeed. Certainly some wizards believe dark magic to be the bane of the magic society, however, why would wizards then create wands to house said magic? Magic doesn't necessarily make a person evil dependant on what it is. Even the purest wizard in the world, a wizard who only uses light magic and not the dark arts, would still have some evil sides to them".

Ollivander then walks over with two wand boxes in his hand, placing them on the counter in front of Oz with a knowing smile.

"Sometimes the most important thing is balance".

Oz looks at both of the wands in front of him for a long time, strangely enough both wands feel like they have a connection to him, like they are reeling him in. Oz was sure that one of these wands would definitely be his new partner.

Oz picks up the wand on his left and immediately feels a burst of magic, signalling to him that this is his new partner.

"Yew wood, Dragon Heartstring and 11 inches. A fine wand indeed. When I saw you I pictured that Yew wood would be one of the best woods for you. As for dragon heartstring that shows your passion for power, a perfect wand that suits the dark arts".

Oz smiled widely looking at the wand, it was simple yet it fit him like a glove. The connection he felt was strong. Strangely though the other wand on the counter still felt like it was trying to connect to him.

As Oz was putting away the wand into his pocket, Ollivander gives a crafty grin.

"Boy, before you leave, how about you try holding the other wand as well".

Oz looked puzzled for a while, confused as to why Ollivander would suggest such. A wizard can only be chosen by a single wand right?

Oz then reaches for the other wand and as he grasps it in his hand another burst of magic is emitted.

"Walnut, Unicorn Hair and again 11 inches. In some ways the wand is the complete antithesis of the other wand. A wand that suits the light more than the dark arts. You are certainly a very curious boy indeed".

Oz stood dumbstruck for a while as all his knowledge of wands vanished from his head. Thinking hardly on the subject, it was possible for other wizards in the Harry Potter lore to use another wizards wand but, wielding two wands at once? was that even possible?

"I know what you must be thinking now child, how is this even possible? such an event is extremely rare on a global scale but it is possible. You could say you as a person have a very split personality, understanding the advantages of both light and dark, creating a perfect balance. Thats why these wands both chose you. Although they are different they aren't rejecting each other as they are separately latching onto two different parts of your magic and psyche, the light and dark sides".

Oz stood brooding for a long time after Ollivanders statement.

'Ollivander is certainly more than meets the eye, not only did he see right through me but his knowledge is even more extensive than I first expected. Most wizards are incredibly biased towards either light or dark magic, yet, I personally found this statement since I came to this world silly, thinking a balance would be a more effective way to move forward, maybe even being the key to move on to later stages'.

Oz looked down at both wands in his hands, it almost seemed as the Yew wood wand was older brother and the Walnut wood wand was the younger sister. Either way, Oz felt a strong connection to both and seeing as they accepted him under a mutual agreement he was happy to take both.

"Does this mean the bill will be doubled?"

"Unfortunately so boy".
