Chapter 34:Chase (3/5)

Having no clue of how to deal with a kid appropriately, August decided to go back to the temple. He decided it will be better to take the kid back first. Later, he will return with others to get the child's mother.

Wasting no time with the kid clung up to him tightly, August sprinted toward the gates to get to the temple as fast as possible. Making the way through the crowd of people that cursed August for his careless run because he was pushing them out of the way, making them fall.

All of them were of a minor concern for August. He made his way through many people, quickly reaching a straight road that had only one obstacle in its way: gates. Other than this, it was a straight road to the temple.

Getting closer and closer to the gates, creating a mess behind his back, August attracted a lot of attention. Guards that were guarding the gates spotted August that was running at them like an unstoppable force.

With their weapons pointing in his direction, they were ready to stop him with all they had.

As August was getting closer and closer, they were preparing to slash and kill August. Getting a firm grip on the child with one of his hands, he unleashed a sword that was already stained with the blood from their soldiers.

*Clang*

The first guard tried to slash August with his sword, which was easily deflected by August. The sword of the guard bounced above his head, leaving him vulnerable to any kind of attack. With a strong straight kick right in the chest, August pushed the guard right towards his fellow brother's sword.

That easily went right through his gut, making him slowly die from the hands of a fellow soldier. That instantly shocked another guard that had his friend hanging on his sword.

He could not draw the sword back fast enough to react. With a jump, August landed right on the second guard's head and with the full force that he could gather, he pushed himself forward, making a flip and leaving only a sound of someone's spine breaking.

Right behind August, both guards fell to the ground, one killed by his friend, another killed by the flip.

August made his way back to the temple, but who said that soldiers will leave August alone after what he had done? A huge squad of soldiers followed his steps like a tiger tracking his prey. They were ready to kill. They were ready to tear him into small parts and feed his flesh to wild animals and cannibals.

But their chase was destined to fail. August made his way inside the temple and putting no attention to the people chasing behind, made his way to Nenneke. While August made his way into the temple, a man with beautiful attire appeared before the group of soldiers.

It was Vilgefortz. With a threatening voice he said: "This is the end of your chase soldiers, you can not come any closer!"

The soldiers shouted at the man, "Step away mage, don't put your nose in those matters!"

Vilgefortz created a fire in his hand and, with a smirk on his face, inquired, "You dare?"

One soldier stepped ahead and motivated his colleagues. "He is only a single mage. We can deal with him with ease"

But before he could make another step, all the clothes that he wore lighted up on fire, making a living torch out of the man right in front of others. They tried to help him extinguish the fire, but nothing worked. It just didn't stop, turning the body of a soldier into ash in mere minutes.

Vilgefortz said in a calm voice with a smile on his face, "I will talk with your lord, now turn back, or I will make another example out of your body"

Reluctantly, the soldiers turned around and made their way back to the city, with ugly grins on their faces for not getting what they wanted. But their life was much more valuable to them than the revenge that they could get.

Vilgefortz teleported into the mansion where the lord lived and told him something that won't please August, but he had no way of finding out about this meeting ever taking place. Almost instantly, the entire city went on high alert, with a lot of soldiers preparing something right on the central square, while covering it with curtains to create a sense of mystery.

….

August made his way to the Nenneke's usual place where he found her praying.

With a small cough to attract her attention, August said, "I need your help"

Nenneke looked at August, that was covered in blood with a crying child in his hands that was shaking like a leaf from a slight breeze.

Nenneke's expression changed to one of terrifying worry. She inquired "Saint Melitele, what happened to the poor child? No, don't answer, let's first help him"

She hurried and dragged August, bringing them to the medical wing of the temple. She asked August to put down the child on the bed to help him.

August tried to do just that, but the kid himself didn't want to release a firm grip with which he was clinging to August like a superglue. August tried to confront him, "Hey kid, release me, she will help".

Nenneke showed a surprised expression, admiring just how bad August was with words. She whispered something in his ear and August said "Hey kiddo, I know you might be hurt, but I can't help like that, don't worry I will stay here with you, all you need to do is lay on this bed, alright?"

Reluctantly, the kid released August and lay on the bed. August knew no words to say. All he could do was stay by his side, while Nenneke tried to speak with a boy, who remained silent, holding a small piece of August's clothes in his tiny palm.
