1 Chapter ONE

'Dear student, due to the incidents that occurred a couple of weeks ago, we regretfully notify you that the main school building will remain closed until further notice. Fortunately, the location for studies has been changed to a new, secluded area. It is a must for you to head there with which's instructions you will find attached to this letter. This message is not up for discussion because it depends on your life and every other student's.

Yours sincerely,

The Head.'

Emmett stared once again at the printed letter he had received a couple of days ago. He ruffled his dirty blonde hair, still in disbelief at the sudden turn of events that had forced him into a flight towards his unknown destination.

Things had been okay on the last weeks toward the end of the summer vacation. He remembered spending time at the beach and at parties with his friends, having no idea that his world would flip right before his eyes in a few days' time.

"Staring at it won't change anything," Charlotte spoke as she moved a strand of her light hair away from her cheek. Emmett turned his head to face his sister who stared at him a raised eyebrow. She had her back supported by the three-seater they were sharing, and her phone's screen displayed text from some mystery novel she was reading.

"Am I the only one who is still surprised by this?" he asked her. Charlotte rolled her eyes at him.

"You obviously aren't, but we should have seen this coming," she sighed, directing her gaze to the people seating around them. Other teenagers were in the same flight to who-knows-where. It astonishingly had not taken the head of the school a lot of time to have every student of the school board the plane. Everyone had rushed to do so, and so had Emmett, forgetting in the process to ask where they were all going.

"What about you, Ryker?" Emmett asked the silent individual sitting next to him. The guy did not reply, as he had not heard him through the wireless headphones he had worn. His black hair covered his eyes, and so it was hard to tell if he was sleeping.

Charlotte snorted a laugh. Ryker fluttered his eyes open, noticing they were looking at him.

'That you hear', Emmett thought with an unamused look.

"What?" Ryker asked once he had moved the headphones away from his ears. He had shifted when he had done so, allowing Charlotte to take a peek through the plane window.

"Damn it!" she sighed. "Looks like there's still blue all around us. I don't think we are close to landing yet."

It did not help that she and the rest of the individuals on board were not informed of the plane's destination.

Emmett was not usually afraid of planes, but knowing that there was a large body of water below them did not sit well with him.

"Attention, passengers," the intercom sounded in the cabin. "We are reaching our destination. Please fasten your seatbelts as we prepare to land, and turn off your phones and any electronic devices you may have with you."

"Where the hell are we landing?" Charlotte asked with furrowed eyebrows even though she was relieved they would be done with the flight. Ryker shrugged, also not knowing the answer to that question.

Fortunately, the three found their answer minutes later as they alighted from the plane. The plane had landed on a landing strip that looked recently paved, and there was a lot of forest vegetation all around them. Tall trees stared at them, slightly swinging from the wind . The students got a whiff of ocean air, and that had them turning to spot the beach.

"An island?" both Emmett and Ryker exclaimed.

"That's what I heard from the kids who sat with the pilots," Charlotte later stated, unamused. "It's apparently a secret one because no plane or ship has ever used this route."

"How come?" her brother asked.

"I think we do know," she replied. "Something to do with our ancestors. Some history stuff involving a hideout. I'm not completely sure."

The three headed to get their luggage. The other teens flocked around them as they chatted, the subjects of conversations ranging from celebrities recently spotted in movies to questions about their new location. Everyone was clueless about the place, and they showed mixed feelings of fright and excitement.

Emmett frowned as he took his bags. Something felt wrong about all of it. Why was he and every other kid like him taken to a secret place for their 'safety'? They were all able to blend in with the rest of the world without any human finding out about their species. There was rarely ever a serious issue about the exposure of vampires, so why did the Head deem it necessary to have them taken to the island that no one had ever heard of?

Sure, the recent events that had forced them on the island heightened the need to hide, but was it really that bad?

He sighed, knowing he would not get answers to his questions at that moment. Emmett had taken the last of his bags. As he turned, something standing close to a tree caught his eye.

Or rather, a person.

There was a girl who looked around the same age as him. The shade of the trees made her skin look dull in the lighting. She had an oval face and eyes that looked dark from where he stood. A part of him wondered if they were purple, just like her long, straightened hair.

"Who is she?" Ryker asked, staring at the same girl as Emmett. The girl was hiding behind the tree, and it looked as if she was surveying all the students that had arrived on the island. Moreover, she looked out of place.

"Do we know her?" Charlotte turned to face the stranger, furrowing her eyebrows in thought.

"I don't know. I've never seen her around before," Emmett stated, frowning in concentration. "Maybe she's new. Probably one of those students from other parts of the world."

"I thought they were on another secret hideout or something," Ryker pointed out.

"Or maybe she's a ghost," Charlotte added. Ryker and Emmett turned to face her with puzzled looks.

"What? We don't know anything about this island. With everything we've heard from our parents, it is possible."

That had Ryker and Emmett pause just as the purple-haired girl disappeared behind the trees. They hadn't seen that happen until they all turned to face the spot she was standing.

"She disappeared!" Charlotte gasped in fake shock.

"Calm down, Char. She just hid behind the tree or moved away," Emmett told her with a smile on his face.

"Or did she?" Charlotte stated, raising a suspicious eyebrow. Emmett rolled his eyes at his sister.

"So, where do we go from here?" Ryker asked. "Any ideas?"
