CHAPTER THREE

After detention, I saw my mom and Miss Denice talking. I hate when my mom comes to school in her thrift clothes.

I don't know why the hell she married my dad with a face like that.

Her hair was roughly tucked behind her ears and some hairs fell on her face. She looked beautiful despite her stressful lifestyle, and when Chester Luis says beautiful he means BEAUTIFUL. She had silky black hair that she would always tie in a ponytail or bun. She had a cute button nose and her big blue eyes made her look even cuter. She's just drop-dead gorgeous. And my dad...well...he's just the opposite.

"I'm sorry miss denice. I promise it won't happen again."

"It's okay Mrs. Luis. I wonder where he gets it from, he has such wonderful parents.

"Come, Chester, let's go." My mom called out. She was holding the keys to my dad's van. Oh! No, she's come to pick me up with that rickety old van, could this day get any worse?

I took my coat off and tossed it at the back. "Mom you didn't have to come."

"Your teacher called me, so, of course I had to! Why do you keep making trouble and calling attention to yourself?"

"Well...it's not like I lied."

"Chester! What did I tell you about talking back?!"

I kept quiet.

"Why do you do this to yourself? You are a bright child..." My mom began to cry, as much as I hate my life... I hate seeing my mom in tears even more.

"Okay, I'm sorry can we please go home now?" I asked rudely.

My mom drove off.

This was my fourth time in detention in two weeks already. But at least detention was better than staying in a class with a bunch of English rich kids.

Mom parked in front of the house, and as she was about to come out of the van I stopped her.

"Mom, where's Dad? Didn't he go to work today?"

She told me he was at home, their restaurant didn't open today. The restaurant was already in bad shape, the owner wasn't making a profit so he was having thoughts of closing down permanently. Another catastrophe!

We entered and I sunk into the couch, my dad was in the kitchen making lunch.

"Hey, ches." He looked up.

"Dad," I said then sniffed.

"Do you wanna go fishing with your old man later?"

I shook my head.

Dad didn't have any money so he spoiled me with time and attention. We would always go fishing, have game nights, watch a movie, play chess, cards or cook together. Honestly, I was sick of it.

"Come on ches why not? It's gonna be..."

"Please, DAD! Could you just leave me alone for two minutes?!"

The atmosphere in the living room was quite tense, my mom stepped outside to receive a call and she returned with a huge smile on her face.

"Honey I got the job!" She hugged my dad tightly they were so happy.

"What job?"

"Oh, Chester." She began as she sat next to me. "I wanted to tell you, I applied for a Librarian at your school a week ago and I got it!"

OH, no WAY my mom, in my school? My entire world came crashing down.

"Please Mom don't accept the offer." I pleaded.

"Why not baby? At least it's better than a nanny, plus they pay well. We need this."

"Mom all the kids will make fun of me."

"We don't care about them ches." My dad reckoned

"Maybe you guys DON'T, but I do. Anyways it's fine. Mom if you accept this offer then I'm never going back to that school ever again!"

"CHESTER!" Mom yelled.

"WHAT!" I yelled back with tears flowing down my cheeks. "Do you think it's easy being in a place with people above your social class?! Do you think it's easy being in a school full of rich kids constantly bragging about how great their parents are?!"

"We squeeze water outta stone to give you a good life." My dad said gently. He never raised his voice no matter how severe the case was.

"Is this what you call a good life? Wow! Thank you, my great mother and father, for giving me this great life you deserve an award. Good life my foot! I wish I was never born to such miserable paren..."

"CHESTER!" My mom slapped me hard.

"Why are you even keeping me alive?! Just kill me, like you killed Grandma!!

You MONSTERS!!!" I said with no remorse.

My mom slapped me again.

The living room was dead silent I was panting so hard I didn't feel any pain. All I felt was numbness all over.

"Then go ahead do it! I hate you!!" I spat out then ran out of the house. My dad wanted to stop me but my mom stopped him.

"Let him be. He needs some alone time..."
