8 The Two Orphans

"Yuchen, you're back! Perfect! It's time for lunch."

An Yuchen looked over at his mom and nodded, and the three of them walked over to the dining table to begin eating.

An Ping and Qi Lanyu had made several dishes, more than usual since there was an extra person.

An Yuchen helped set up the plates and added a chair.

A few minutes later, the five of them were seated and eating lunch together.

As they ate, An Yuchen continued to place food into An Luxia's bowl and she seemed very used to it. Mo Han wasn't very pleased seeing that and soon after, he began placing food into her bowl as well.

Before long, she had a tiny mountain of food in her bowl.

Qi Lanyu watched all of this and she did not know how to feel. The first to speak after they had sat down was An Ping.

"So, Mo Han, is it?"

Mo Han nodded his head and placed his bowl and chopsticks down, "Yes, dad."

An Ping sighed and continued to eat, "How old are you?"

"27."

"What do you do for a living?"

An Luxia stopped chewing for a quick second as she gently kicked Mo Han underneath the table, but he didn't need that kick.

"I own a small business." An Luxia relaxed.

"Oh. . ." An Ping nodded his head, "How much do you make a year?"

An Luxia immediately froze again.

"A little over a 100 thousand a year," Mo Han replied without even blinking an eye.

"Not bad, not bad." An Ping nodded his head and continued to interrogate him, "What about your parents? What do they do?"

"I am an orphan."

Upon hearing this, everyone at the dining table stopped eating and looked up, including An Luxia who did not know about this.

"You are an orphan?" She asked.

Mo Han nodded his head, "I was sent into an adoption center when I was a baby."

Qi Lanyu, who naturally had a very soft spot for parentless kids, immediately felt her heart soften as the dislike she originally had towards Mo Han disappeared slightly.

An Luxia was also quite pleasantly surprised by that. She grinned and continued to eat, "I am an orphan too!"

"Xiaxia!" An Yuchen looked up and frowned, "What do you mean? You have us as a family. How can you be an orphan?"

An Luxia giggled and smiled at her brother, "I know, I know!"

Mo Han glanced up at An Yuchen without as much dislike and hate in his eyes this time, and then he tilted his head slightly and looked over at An Luxia.

He was glad that this family treated her this well. . .

Throughout the rest of the meal, An Ping, Qi Lanyu, and even An Yuchen continued to interrogate Mo Han about this and that, and he wasn't able to eat very well but he didn't care.

In the end, both An Ping and Qi Lanyu were quite pleased with their "son-in-law", and although An Yuchen had also changed his mind, he still wasn't fully convinced yet.

Mo Han volunteered to wash the dishes, but Qi Lanyu said they would go do it, so the rest of them went to sit down on the couch.

They continued to talk some more and once they had finished talking about Mo Han's education, there was a moment of silence before An Yuchen cleared his throat and narrowed his eyes.

"Mr. Mo, I would like to make one thing clear. Our Xiaxia may have been adopted, but she is the little princess of me and the entire family. You two may be married now, but if you dare treat her badly, or if I ever hear that you don't treat her well, I swear I will make you pay. Understand?"

Upon hearing this, An Ping's face also straightened and he nodded his head in support.

An Luxia felt her eyes redden slightly and she pursed her lips out to stop herself from crying. The heavens really favored her, didn't they?

She must have saved the world in her past life to be adopted into such a great family.

She jumped up from her spot and ran over, squeezing down between her brother and father. She wrapped one arm around the two of them and smiled, "I love you, brother! I love you, dad!"

The two of them chuckled and they simultaneously patted her on the head.

Mo Han still felt jealous and sour upon seeing this sight, but he also felt a tiny warmth inside his heart. He nodded his head, "I understand. I promise to treat Luxia well."

An Luxia blinked a few times in surprise as she didn't expect him to agree, but the trust she had in him grew after hearing him say that.

An Yuchen nodded his head, "Good."

---

The two of them stayed for another hour before An Yuchen received a call from the hospital and he had to leave, so An Luxia and Mo Han decided to leave as well.

The two of them walked up to the second floor and down the hallway to An Luxia's room to retrieve her stuff.

They entered the room and Mo Han didn't seem very surprised to see light pink walls, and a beautiful pink bed with pink and white pillows.

"Your favorite color is pink?" He asked.

"No, it's sky blue. But I like pink things."

". . ." So it was pink then? Or was it blue?

An Luxia carried her large suitcase onto the ground and stuffed a bunch of clothes and other supplies into it. Then, she walked over to her vanity and took a silver ring resting on the top. Then, she slipped it onto her ring finger.

"Okay, I'm done. Let's go."

They said goodbye to An Ping and Qi Lanyu, who questioned Mo Han some more before finally following them to the car and watching as they drove away.

In the car, they sat in silence for a while before Mo Han removed one hand from the steering wheel and tilted his head slightly.

"I can tell why you chose to marry me over the guy you had an arranged marriage with."

An Luxia raised one eyebrow. Wasn't that clear?

"However. . ."
