15 Photographic memory

Lex was even more surprised by the talking people inside the flat, balanced box than the fact that he could communicate with people who are a thousand miles away with a similar smaller device.

"Pretty cool, huh?"

Bodie asked. He was on the couch, eating popcorn and constantly switching to different channels. They had eaten dinner and he had changed into his pyjamas.

"Yes."

Lex was still touching the screen like it was made of magic or something. Bodie laughed mockingly, but he planned to warn Lex terribly about displaying this kind of attitude outside the confines of the estate.

He couldn't imagine how embarrassed he would be if he asks like this outside and dared open his mouth saying he was related to him.

"Okay, that's enough. Those appliances are fragile. Don't make the mistake of hitting any one of them."

Lex nodded and returned to his seat. Bodie frowned at the empty bowl of popcorn and clapped twice for the maid on duty to refill it.

He settled for an action movie by one of the greatest martial artists of all time, Moose Lee*. What he was worried about wasn't even Lex going out and making an utter fool of himself in front of everyone but how he was going to cope in school.

He wasn't even sure that Lex understand math or the basics and a successive decline in his academics could make him suspicious in the long run.

Bodie had no plans of tutoring him at all. He works with things that he is certain he can control. For a vampire for a destroyed vampire race, it's pretty much playing with fire. You either get chapped badly or gently burned.

Either way will end badly and it depends entirely on the severity of the flame. Lex was even worse. He had no knowledge of this kind of vampire so he was dealing with an entirely new species thus, he needed to gather information and observe from the beginning.

All his previous knowledge about vampires has been defied by Lex so far.

"Did you guys live in prehistoric times or something? You don't have any devices at all that help you communicate with people who are in distant locations?"

Bodie was trying to graft Lex's brain down to earth-based terms was he a caveman or could he be suited around the time of the Persian and Roman empires?

"For anyone we've met before we can talk to them telepathically."

Lex replied looking at Bodie's large see-through fish tank with swimming golden blobfish inside it. They blinked at him and he had the urge to squeeze them until they die.

"Step away from my fish tank and what if you're trying to get in touch with someone who you've never met before?"

Bodie glared at Lex when he saw his hands move dangerously close to the water.

"We can't and it's a mutual telepathy thing. The other party has to agree before you can both communicate with each other."

Lex said and once again returned to his seat. Bodie wondered why he was so restless, his head jerking in every direction. He hadn't brought him to the living room before.

The other rooms were so large that it hadn't been necessary.

Lex's eyes finally perched on the TV screen and just in time for Moose to give his opponent a flying dragon kick.

Lex's restless body relaxed as he watched the movie and Bodie looked up when he saw Lex standing up. Where was he going this time around?

"Young master, someone's looking for you at the gates?"

Bodie's attention shifted from Lex to butler Benson, bowing low and reporting to him.

"Who's that...?"

Bodie had no friends and his father and sister knew the house codes. The staff would recognize them right away too, so who could it be who was by the gate?

"A young man, I have no idea who he is."

Bodie passed his half-filled bowl of popcorn to Benson and told Lex to follow him to the gates. He rarely had visitors and he had chased away potential acquaintances with his overbearing attitude.

As they marched on the tarred road and approached the gates, Bodie tried to make out the silhouette of the man with the streetlights but he was still unfamiliar.

Three feet away from the gates, Lex could hear Bodie muttering something under his breath.

"The fuck are you doing at my gates, Kevin...?"

Bodie said through his teeth and his condescending gander shifted from Kevin to the irresponsible gateman he had hired. Well, he better get ready to hand in his resignation letter first thing in the morning or else...

Bodie had the guts to swear at Kevin now that he was safely on the inside of the gates and Lex was standing right behind him. He had some bodyguards too but he didn't pay too much attention to them. He was going to let Lex do his bidding tonight by giving this insolent bastard a good beating for always messing with him.

Maybe he'll let Lex kill him off, he had the resources to silence the police anyway or he would tell Lex to enjoy a late-night snack from a living, breathing blood bag or he'll... the grotesque ideas flooded Bodie's mind making a shrilly smirk kick off at the side of his face.

It was Kevin's response that brought a stop to the long list of them.

"Ah, little rich twerp you forgot that you ordered something and I had to bring it to you even though I'm not being paid for the delivery service."

Kevin jeered looking Lex up and down like he expected a greeting or something.

Bodie scoffed, he didn't care about that. He looked down. The package was some sausages he had put on pre-order with the old lady earlier in the day. He had forgotten to pick them up on his way back.

Bodie pointed to one of the men behind Kevin to collect it and bring it to one bodyguard inside. He did just that and Bodie turned around to go back. It didn't seem like Kevin was here to cause trouble so...

"Hey, dude. If this little brat tried to kill ya, you're supposed to report him not live in his house. Is he blackmailing ya, c'mon, tell me? I ain't scared of him."

Alas, Bodie spoke too soon.

Bodie stopped and turned to Lex with just one word.

"Go."

Lex nodded and walked back to the gates, he opened them and walked up to Kevin.

"As I was saying you don't have to—"

Bodie rubbed his eyes when he saw Lex knock Kevin down with the same kick Moose used.

"What the..."

He thought he was seeing things.

"Hey, Lex. Do that again."
