Blue blood

The more you know, the faster you die...

***

The blue blood sizzled as it came in contact with his tongue and Bodie found himself jerking on the carpet and foaming at the mouth. He could feel the surge of power all through him, heightening his senses and improving his immunity.

After a few minutes, the shortage of blood supply to his brain lessened and the circulatory system kicked in again. He gasped, taking in a full breath of air.

"That was a seizure, wasn't it?"

He adjusted his jaw betwixt the thumb and middle finger of his left hand.

"I wonder what changed."

He had to pull on the footboard of the double bed to pull himself up. He crossed the room in three easy strides o the body-length mirror next to the closet.

"Not much."

Bodie knew vampires possess blue blood or "Sangre Azul." It carries bits of their soul allowing them to have immortality through cycles of expression.

According to the knowledge he's gathered from watching lots of movies and reading vampire-leading books, vampire blood is supposed to; increase strength, heighten instincts, make an intense sexual experience and cause hallucinations.

He picked up the stainless steel spoon on the table and not only bent it in half, but he also twisted it in successive spirals, so that it resembled a screw. His hearing was much clearer, he could hear little raindrops on the roof of the mansion which was still three floors upwards. Intense sexual experience... it did feel exhilarating—meh, he shrugged. He didn't have hallucinations but he felt something synonymous with seizures.

"I need to get all this down."

Bodie also planned to try out more experiments in the future. This was the same thing that the government was going to do to the ones that they captured themselves anyway, so he felt little or no shame for taking advantage of Lex without his permission.

Bodie watched Lex as he ate. He was typically a carnivore by nature, so his breakfast was pretty much steak and another juice box. He also ate a lot. Bodie would just have to lie to his sister about why he spent most of his allowance in the first half of the year.

"You said you're from a galaxy called Vassius...?"

Bodie had used this breakfast to learn more about Lex's origins.

"Yeah. Our planet Arsangah was the first to be birthed in comparison with the other planets. It started wearing away after a star storm twelve centuries ago. Some of us tried to flee to other habitable planets but the emperor of the dark-winged vampires suddenly died and the entire race of white-wings was framed for hatching a plot to kill him. They even linked us to the planet losing its vitality."

Bodie chewed and processed all the new information. So that's why he kept going on and on about how he wants to survive in his delirious state yesterday. It happened when he was unconscious.

"How could the death of some emperor cause them to frame you all?"

Bodie found Drae's story a little too far-fetched. Either that or vampires were naturally stupid. He surmised the latter. He didn't want to even think of the possibility that Draekai was quick-witted.

When Draekai stopped eating and looked at him with a raised eyebrow, Bodie glared at him and asked further.

Did Drae not understand his question or did he feel offended by it? Bodie scoffed if the case was actually the latter. So what? He hadn't even asked unnerving questions yet.

"I'm not sure either. I was a guard at Nesquik's gate. I only received the order, I don't know much of the details."

Bodie wasn't happy with Drae's replies. They were too empty. He was too oblivious about everything.

"How long were you imprisoned?"

"I lost count at around the beginning of the third century but I was locked up for approximately five centuries."

Five hundred years? Bodie was stunned by how much these bloodsuckers could live for. If he continued to consume Drae's blue blood in small doses maybe one or two drops daily, would he one day attain immortality? He really wanted to find out.

"How were the dark-wings able to capture you all? I mean... you are vampires too, so equal strength and all. How were you all so stupid and allowed yourself to be subdued by your own kind?"

Bodie paused mid-chew and laughed at his silly question. Even on earth slavery was practised. People derived pleasure in putting other people they perceived as lower than them in eternal servitude.

"In my universe, the sun sits above the planet. The vampires who reside closer to the sun are the black-wings and they are in greater numbers than us. About five to six times our total number. We live underneath in a colder atmosphere. Our strength was equal but we were too outnumbered. They wiped out most of us... and the rest they imprisoned to decay along with the dying planet."

Lex raised his head to meet Bodie's when he was done eating and flinched from the dangling smile on his face.

"You suspect you're the only one that survived?"

"I'm not suspecting, I know I'm the last. I and the other eleven guardians of the gate were the only ones left and... I watched them all die in front of me."

Bodie scowled from the breaking in Lex's voice towards the end. Was that sadness he heard?

No.

He won't allow his vampire to display any weak human emotions. He's going to make him the strongest. He's also going to explore everything that makes him tick.

Benson the butler, strutted to the young master and bowed.

"What is it?"

"The preparations have all been completed, young master."

He waved Benson away with a new smile creeping into the corners of his face.

"Lex, you're going to high school."
