21 Chapter 21 - The Feast (Part 1)

122 AC

The thirtieth day of the fifth moon

Ulf Pov

I immediately got up as my face was drenched with cold water. I gasped for breath as the water had gone into my nose and mouth.

"It is time to wake up boy", came the voice of the ass who was my knight.

It was then that I realized that I was no longer in the cabin rather I was in some completely different room.

"We are in the red keep boy", said Daemon as he noticed my confusion.

"We had to bring you in a wheelbarrow boy since you had lost consciousness", He said while giving me his shit-eating grin.

"The look on Rhaenys's face was hilarious when she realized the reason why she had to ride on a horse rather than the wheelbarrow", he said while laughing loudly.

My face quickly grew red just thinking about the embarrassment that I had caused but that thought quickly left my mind as I realized that I was in the "Red Keep". The castle that housed the Royal family since the start. This was the castle in which the Iron throne was kept. A throne that some said to be cursed. This was the very throne that resulted in all the wars that had taken place after the conquest.

"The feast is starting in an hour's time boy", said Daemon. Then I looked out of the window and realized that the sun had already set.

"Yes my prince", I said as I slowly got up from the bed. Despite the sleep, I was not feeling well but appearances had to be maintained. This was my official introduction to the realm as the squire of Daemon.

The nobles from all over the continent would be coming especially the "Green" nobles.

"How was the meeting with the king my prince?", I asked Daemon.

The amused look that Daemon had instantly turned into a scowl. He slowly walked towards the table present in the room and poured himself a drink.

I believe that wine was present wherever the rogue prince was.

"My brother was happy that the entire family had come together while he was overjoyed to see his grandsons for the first time".

Taking a sip of wine he continued, "After Nyra left with the children I asked him about his son and he visibly paled".

Yup, Aemond Targaryen the boy who took the eye of Daemon's youngest daughter while claiming his dead wife's mount. Daemon had been seriously pissed off when he had gotten to know that the prince was sent to Oldtown for fostering but the entire court knew that after that faithful incident on Driftmark, the capital would not have been safe for the prince.

"I asked him what punishment he had received and do you know what my brother told me? He told me that It was a fight among kids and it should be treated as such. I should forgive and forget were his exact words."

"He thinks that I will forgive the boy for what he did to my daughter. The Seven Hells would freeze before I do that", he said angrily while gripping the cup tighter.

"But I will have my retribution Ulf, and you will get it for me", he said.

Wait what. How am I supposed to get retribution for Daemon.

The confusion must have been clearly visible on my face because the very next moment Daemon answered my questions.

"The boy will take part in the Squire's tourney on the last day and that Is when you will face him Ulf", Daemon said with a cruel glint in his eyes.

"You have enough days to rest as well but remember when the boy comes in front of you do not hold back. Teach him such a lesson that he may never raise a hand against my family ever again.

Hearing the orders from the prince I quietly nodded my head.

"That Is why I like you boy, because you always get things done, But remember, do not fail me, boy.

After seeming happy with my answer he left the room and told me to get dressed quickly.

On cue, a few servants came in and poured warm water into the tub after which I went in and relaxed.

After having a bath I went towards my room and so a white tunic with white pants as well as shoes was kept on the table. There was a small note as well. As I opened the notes I realized that there were only three words written on it.

"Wear the brooch".

It was then that I realized that a brooch in the shape of a black dragon was kept on the table.

This brooch would signify whom I was going to side with and as I was about to wear it I realized that once I wore this and appeared in the court then there would be no turning back.

The huge wooden doors to the great hall were open and as I walked in I could see the monstrosity of a throne right at the end. From the entrance of the hall, I could clearly see the two factions. The greens on the left were in majority while the blacks on the right weren't equal to the greens in number.

As I started walking I could see the gazes of the various nobles come onto me.

I stood still and took in a deep breath. This was it. The time for me to play the game of thrones had come.
