Chapter 4: With Every Blessing, Comes a Curse...

While Roman was waiting for his A.I Chip to finish its scan, he ended up going to the bathroom in order to have a nice long shower, and also ended up getting some food since he never noticed how hungry he was with him constantly questioning his, so far, trusty Blessing.

However he also ended up noting some weird things about the place he was in.

When he finished his shower earlier, there were definitely no towels, so as he was wishing for himself to be dried, it just happened.

The same thing also happened when he opened the fridge to see if there was any food. He was wishing that he didn't have to cook since that's one life skill you can cross off your list when you've spent almost your whole life in a hospital bed.

So, some pre-made and heated food just appeared in thin air in the form of a cheeseburger, fries, a coke, and some chicken nuggets.

It was then that he realized that whatever he wished for, ended up coming true. So he tried changing the entire place to his liking.

Now, there was a gorgeous kitchen styled in marble with four stoves, some cabinets and cupboards, a nice dining table, a living room with two more gorgeously designed leather couches and 4k HD overhead TV sitting atop a nice fireplace.

There was a closet big enough for a king with clean and tidy clothes of many types, a bathroom with a clean toilet, two sinks with a nicely designed mirror hanging above it, a nice bathtub and a separate hot tub (who wouldn't ask for one), and finally, a proper king sized bedroom.

All of this was so wonderful and fictitious, that he was constantly vibrating in excitement. Yet, that also made him find a question that he slightly dreaded because it led to so many more terrible questions than good ones.

'Why was this room so small and dirty when I came the first time?'

Yet, he wasn't allowed to go down that rabbit hole this time since his Blessing decided that now was the best time to interrupt his morbid thinking.

[Would you like me to display all of my findings to you Sir?]

Roman was in silence for a while, trying to organize his thoughts. Although some things don't make sense to him, that's fine. He has his A.I chip with him to help out.

Even though he still doesn't understand why he was brought here, he has a feeling that he'll find out soon, and he needs to be as prepared as possible before that.

However, there was some really concerning stuff here he would really like to understand more about. Like, how can he have Godly ranked in three categories?

Especially in the case of his curse. Isn't Godly rank supposed to be extremely rare? Why do they seem like common vegetables you can find in a farmers market in his case then?

'You know what, I'm going to give you a name first cause this is getting a bit annoying. Do you have any suggestions or preferences?'

[I am content with whatever name Sir decides for me.]

'Hmmm… how about Alfred?'

[Please don't name me after someone else's butler Sir. It's very demeaning to me that you can't come up with a new name instead of borrowing one.]

…'I thought you said you'd be content?'

[…]

'Fine, how about Holmes, like Sherlock Holmes? As an A.I, your deduction, analysis, and information gathering should obviously be absolutely incredible, so let's name you Holmes as a testament to that.'

[Thank you very much Sir, I accept the name Holmes.]

'Great! Now that a name is out of the way, can you please explain to me what this Curse is, cause the name is scaring me.'

[I have added a description for everything during the scan. All of the information you see before you is set in a file like manner. If you would like more information, you can mentally focus on the specific parameter or power.]

Roman, hearing Holmes' explanation, decided to first focus on his Curse, because of how scary it sounded.

{Curse - Random Pain Overload (Godly): It's been determined through extensive scanning that this Curse makes it so that you will suffer incredibly terrible amounts of pain every day for 4 hours straight at random times. The types of pain that are inflicted are random.}

And now, his worst fears have come true. Roman already suffered one life in immeasurable pain in that hospital bed, and now he's cursed to suffer even worse pain, on a daily basis of four hours.

Back then, Roman suffered from Fibromyalgia, yet that wasn't even the worst of it. He was also born with a damaged nervous system, due to an accident his mother got into when she was pregnant with him.

Due to this, his pain receptors were in a never-ending loop of agony that only continued to grow worse. However, even when he was constantly in pain, he always tried to stay calm and strong in order to not unnecessarily worry his parents. He didn't want them to think it was their fault.

'Well I'll just have to deal with it as it goes. But what do you mean random types of pain Holmes?'

[Sir, from what I investigated in your memories, pain is an overarching term. There are many different ways for someone to feel pain such as sharp pain, burning pain, freezing pain, and etc.]

[In my understanding, you could feel like your cells are being poisoned, being slurped by a straw, or even being numbed to painful degrees. Any type of way someone can feel pain will occur to you randomly for 4 hours everyday, in a conceptual way.]

[There is also a possibility for your pain receptors to be dialed up higher than usual when this occurs, making it much more unpleasant.]

Roman was stunned. Forget his previous life, he was now scared for this new chance. Doesn't this mean that he will probably die the first time this thing hits.

[Don't worry Sir, based on my limited understanding of Curses, no matter how powerful they seem, there is no way for it to be able to take your life directly without reality itself intervening to prevent that.]

[My conjecture is that although you will be feeling all of that pain, there is no way for it to kill you. It may however leave you on the brink of insanity if your willpower is not as high as it is now.]

Although Roman now felt slightly better that he's not gonna die, he's still upset at the pain he's in for. Though if anything, he wished he had any other Curse than this one.

[Are you sure Sir? In my database, there is a Curse where there was one person who was a woman for 12 hours and a man for the other 12 hours. Their psyche was broken after a month due to not knowing their own identity.]

'... Ok maybe not ANY other type of Curse.'

Roman decided not to complain about it for now. He'll cross that hurdle when he gets to it.

'Wait, how do you even know about these other Curses?'

[I was also given access to some possible Power Sets many different fallen Power Users in the past history of all reality held. You can think of it as a history book that I can reference in order to allow me to rank all of your current Powers properly with the common universal ranking method.]

'That sounds really convenient, but you won't hear me complaining.

'Now then, let's start looking at everything else.'
