Chapter Four

"Lancy, where do you go to school?" Jacob asked me suddenly, and I froze before remembering that Lancy had transferred and I still needed to go to school. "Oh, I just go to school in town. And Jacob, what about you?" I asked.

"I go to school on the reservation." Jacob shrugged, "What about the fact that you need to drive to school every day? '

"Yeah, but that's okay; it's cool, isn't it?"

By the time I got home, I was tired, but after a quick wash, I took a special hourglass filled with golden gravel out of my suitcase. Beatrice left it for me, who promised to be back before the gravel showed. I looked at the hourglass, and suddenly an idea flashed through my mind, though I don't know if my guess was right. It looked like a countdown to life, and life, like quicksand, doesn't go backward. I put the hourglass on my bed; whatever, I've had a long day. As I lay in bed, eyes closed, I thought, no matter how long it is, I must live my life.

Daer Lancy:

Please allow me to call you like this. Today is my first day at Fox. It's a nice town, and everyone is so nice. They help me a lot, and I'm sure you will love this town if you are here.

Maybe you will never come back, but in my heart, I still hope there is a little possibility that magic may happen. And you can come back. Maybe one day you will be weak, so I keep writing daily. I hope you don't mind it. No matter where you are, I hope you know the best things in life are free. Please enjoy your life.

Best regards

Day Five

I finished my journal, closed my notebook, and stretched. I hadn't been able to get a good night's sleep before coming to town. Now that I had a good night's sleep, I was ready to eat something. I ate some bread and then got ready to take my medicine. Because this body is so weak, the doctor can only give a conservative treatment plan and cannot operate. I looked at the pile of medicines in front of me and took them one by one according to the doctor's instructions. As for whether or not these medicines were really useful, I would have to wait until I went to the hospital for a recheck to find out.

I need to go to town today to do some shopping and pay some fees. Jacob said he would accompany me. Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door, and it was Jacob arriving. I open the door and take a breath of fresh, humid air. It's so nice.

"Lancy, good morning." He greeted me with a smile and asked, "Did you sleep well last night?"

"It was great; I love it here." I nodded. I liked the nice grassy smell in the air and the calmness of the place.

I made a list of things to buy; there were no supermarkets in the town, so we went to Port Angel. Before we went to the supermarket, I asked Jacob to take me to the bookstore, and I bought two books. Port Angeles is also a quiet town, but in the end, it's mostly bigger than the town. I was looking forward to going to the grocery store; it was my heaven. There are so many delicious foods that I've wanted to try but couldn't. Jacob said I wanted to buy out the supermarket. I laughed, not wanting to admit it.

Jacob laughed and asked me if all of it was food, and I was a little embarrassed to pick up two pots of succulents that I was going to take back with me to keep.

"Are you going to eat the succulents?" He laughed and joked with me; he loved to laugh, and somehow I thought of roses next to the succulents, although the association was very strange. I shrugged and then pretended to hammer his shoulder. In reality, I'm happy to have him as a friend; he's the first friend I've made yet.

When I was a ghost, I enjoyed talking, even though humans couldn't hear me. I also enjoyed being next to them and reminding them that it was going to rain and to remember to bring an umbrella. If there's too much salt in the soup, add water. The light bulb in the toilet is broken; remember to buy a new one when you go out tomorrow. You have to find the key in the book bag compartment. And so on. I say a lot of things every day. But no one could hear me, and as time went on, I lost this passion and stopped staying with one human being for long periods and wandered around. I am now happy to finally have someone to talk to, and I can talk a lot. Unfortunately, I have too many secrets I can't share with anyone.

"Lancy, what are you thinking?" Jacob asked me as he stood in front of my car, "Thinking about how to thank you." I said. "What?" he asked, confused. "How can I thank you for helping me so much?" I said it seriously. "Ah, nothing. Really, I'm glad I could help." He seemed a little shy, and I observed that his ears were a little red. I said a little teasingly, "All I have is a little gift for you, which I prepared with great care." I said that on purpose, and he really looked more nervous. "Really, what is it?" He asked with some anticipation. I held back a laugh and pulled a pink bow hair clip out of my pocket. "Look, it's for you." Lancy!" I couldn't hold back my laughter any longer as I watched the look on his face. I laughed and dodged him. "Don't you like it? I think it's a perfect gift for you." Of course, I was still caught by him, and then, before he put this bracelet on me, I rushed to show that I had prepared the real gift for him. He was a little hesitant when I held it out, but then, surprised, he stated, "It's a book, ah, Design of Machinery!" He cheered in surprise before he even fully unwrapped it. "But, Lancy, we just met yesterday; how did you know?" I could tell he loved the book so much that he couldn't even look up at me. "Well, because I'm thoughtful and attentive." Yesterday at his house, I realized that he loves car mechanics, so I thought of buying him the book.

It was drizzling on the way back, but luckily it had stopped by the time we got back to the reservation. I closed the car door and tried to lift my pocket when Jacob grabbed it first. I was going to lift the other one, and he grabbed it first. He was stronger than I thought, and in the end, as I watched, he weighed it and then left me with a lighter one. I laughed and cried at his behavior, but I missed his thoughtfulness. "Hey Jacob, I heard from Harry that a new neighbor moved in next to your house. Uh, hi?" I turned my head to see a short-haired teenager in a t-shirt and a long-haired teenager with a similar look to Jacob, presumably a friend of Jacob's.

"Hi," I greeted them in a friendly manner. "Are you guys here to see Jacob?"

"Hi, I'm Quil... Atello, this is Embry," he finished his greeting and sheepishly lowered his head, raising his hand to scratch the back of his neck.

"I'm Lacey Green; I just moved here yesterday; nice to meet you guys."

"Yesterday? Ohhhh, yeah, yesterday." Quil looked a little goofy, but Embry was relatively more stable.

"What brings you guys here?" Jacob walked out of the house.

Quil grinned derisively, "Came to check out your ~new~ neighbors, and you guys already know each other so well, huh?" Jacob threw a fist against Quil's chest, and the two of them got into a scuffle without saying two words. I didn't think they'd be so childish; it was as if they were watching two dogs climbing on the ground and biting each other, but Jacob was only sixteen years old in terms of age, and it seemed pretty normal for a boy to be a boy. Embry was looking at them with his arms wrapped around his body and did not go up to stop them, looking like he was already used to it. "The way you and Jacob keep your hair, uh, it's a little bit like..."

"Indians?" He picked me up with a smile.

"Well, when you put it that way, it's kind of like that. Are there any customs?" I asked curiously.

"It's not a custom; it's just that there's always been an old legend on the reservation," he told it slowly as if he were telling a story. "It's rumored that the Quileutes are all descended from wolves."

"Wolves?" I blinked as if I were listening to a fairy tale.

"Hey Embry, why are you telling this horror story to Nessie?" Jacob came over to me; he gave me a worried look, and I was a little baffled. I've heard too many stories to think it was a horror story.

"That's just a legend; don't take it seriously." He whispered to me.

"I know," I shrugged, "I'm not scared." I realized that Jacob seemed to have some misunderstandings about me. "By the way, can I go in the forest?" Seeing Jacob's frown or disapproval, I wisely chose to change the subject. This time he did nod and say, "Yes, just be safe and be careful about getting lost; there are a lot of...never mind, I'll take you there next time; it's not safe for you to be alone." Jacob carefully instructed me. I glanced over at Quil and Embry, who had been waiting for a long time, picking up my hand and gesturing for a pause. "That's enough for today; I want to work on my fried chicken, not listen to you ramble on." I reached out to push him and waved at Quil, "Embry, Quil, you guys get outta here."

"Lancy, goodbye." they were gone.

After watching the three of them walk away, I turned around and went back into the house and started organizing the things I had bought today.

A book fell out of my shopping bag; it was "The World's Best Cook". I think I'll be a good cook.
